Dan Patrick Show coming to 101 Network

Sounds like as good an excuse to go out and get a DVR as any... :)

Weather Channel: Locals on the 8's

I agree. It's a good start, anyway. Personally I won't need this, since I get my locals OTA which include a subchannel with local forecasts and radar (24-2 in Austin). Good start for people who don't get OTA locals or who don't have local OTA weather subchannels, though.

Weather Channel: Locals on the 8's

Now that the HD content and the SD content are no longer the same on the Weather Channel, shouldn't they renumber the HD version to 362-1 to be consistent with previous practice? I don't think many people want to see the HD and SD versions of each channel when the content is identical, but...

Sweet Sunday Ticket deal for me

I doubt that an e-mail is likely to be anywhere near as effective as a call to retention.

DIRECTV Remains Clear HD Leader with 130 HD Channels

Sort of. But in reality, how many people are really helped by this where out of market RSNs are concerned? The bottom line, IMO, is that blackout rules of all the sporting events worth watching on the out-of-market RSNs makes them all but useless for most people, since the only time most...

There's only one thing more pathetic than constant whining, and that's whining about the whining.

    An Update

But if someone in the "damage control" departments are to give out timely and accurate information to customers about the up-to-the-minute status, they need time and input from the people in operations who are trying to get things to work. You are correct that this would be more pronounced in a...

    Very dissapointed in D*

I saw that, and it's interesting reading, but it's more of the same, really: speculation, circumstantial evidence and "insider" sources who are not named and who are not going on the record.

    An Update

I for one would prefer my software fully tested and debugged before being uploaded to my box. And proper QA work takes time.

    Very dissapointed in D*

Well, the bright side is that come October 1, if there aren't more HD channels up and running, no one can point fingers at "misinformed CSRs" (even though I don't think most of them *were* misinformed). And no apologists can claim people are acting on "unofficial information" as if it were...

    An Update

This does bring up a good point. Every employee assigned to PR "damage control" is one less employee who can be dedicated to working on the technical issues and getting them resolved. In most cases, these would be different "departments" but I'm sure there is also some overlap. In short...

    Very dissapointed in D*

Translation: management is unable to control its worker bees. Either the CSRs were authorized to give the date or not. If they were, then it's pretty slimy for management and D* executives to put their heads in the sand and give the "we never promised anything" spin while allowing their CSRs...

    Very dissapointed in D*

What gets me is that I think management is making the CSRs take their bullets. Between the leaked memo (if it's genuine) and the (mostly consistent) reports from hearing 9/19 as "the day" from CSRs, I think it's pretty safe to assume that 9/19 was intended to be the day. The question is...

    Very dissapointed in D*

I'm simplifying. The bottom line is that folks on the ground had to develop software to deal with the problem. Unless you think someone is going to rent a space shuttle and physically swap out and/or fix hardware on the birds in the air, the "fix" here is going to be the software portion. I...

    Very dissapointed in D*

This reminds me of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope, actually. As I recall, when it launched, it had significant problems with its mirrors that prevented it from functioning well. As a result, engineers had to develop, test and upload a software "fix" to workaround the physical...

Just Spoke with a directv customer representative...

This makes absolutely no sense. The people who don't have the right boxes won't see the programming until they get the new boxes whether they roll out or not. This does nothing but irritate those who are already "ready" to receive the new channels. I can't believe any business decision would...

Just Spoke with a directv customer representative...

At this point, I put as much stock in what a CSR says as I do a politician making campaign promises. I'm not from Missouri, but show me. Until then I'll remain a skeptic.

finally called Dtv for upgrade, did great I think!

I suspect there may be. But I wonder if there will be a crush of orders as soon as the HD programming goes live. I just ordered an HR20 for essentially $199 ($299 minus a $100 programming credit) this morning, and the first available installation appointment wasn't until September 12. If it's...
