I would think that overall Cuban's channel on cable or OTA at full bitrate surpass VOOM's HD. They just don't have the bandwidth. Not to say WM9 or other encoder/decoder upgrade wouldn't help a bunch though.

Maybe Cuban won't do it because he doesn't want the quality reduced by low bit rate.

I see the same things with the tiles. do you have a 1080i CRT or a 720 panel or something different? The tiles seem to dance around. I though it was due to scaling from 1080 to 720. But it certainly could be the compression. Those panns just have too much information content.

I realize they have been the same since day one, but I defintitely see this. Again, stills are fine, but when you get enough motion or frame to frame difference, it starts to macro-block.

I see macroblocking on this channel when there is moderate to heavy picture movement. Stills look excellent, but a lot of mosquito noise around text . I really started to notice blocking in a slow dance feature from India I believe, the girls necks would macro block a lot as they moved around...

Also, it looks like hot air is floating over the screen, it is slightly wavy. This must be the STB converting 1080i to 720p. BUt I've never seen it on any other channel. Mayube I'll let the TV do the scaling and see if it goes away.

equator is the first channel to screw up my geometry. I have a large black band at the bottom of the TV right now on the london show.

It shows up when they show the daily programs on the preview between movies. And they have a little blurb showing some show girls type thing announcing the first high def gay and lesbian channel.

Why didn't divine show up instead of cinema10 in the guide today?

There is some difference in OTA, not in quality, but in rcvr sensitivity. You could lose or gain stations if you switch provider boxes. The other issue may be DVI. I still have not gotten a firm answer on 16-235 or 0-255 outputs for black/white on the VOOM STB, but if this differs from D* STB...
