    Voom and Tivo

Since we can't seem to get a definite date on when the Voom DVR will be released, I've been thinking about picking up one of the cheaper Tivo boxes to tide me over until that time. I realize it doesn't record in HD. Would I be wasting my money? How does the Tivo program guide work with Voom?

How many clients will you need or willing to pay for?

Is it necessary to get one of the thin clients if you're only connecting one TV and don't care about the whole house networking thing?

    Found new HD DVR!!!

Anyone know what this means exactly? I assume it means loosing the ability to record in HD - in which case it would be much cheaper to just buy a Tivo.

Voom Networked Home Solution and Voom's DVR

Will a Tivo work with Voom? Will it just downconvert HD to SD on the composite and S-video outputs on the Motorola box? This may be an interim solutions until Voom releases it's HD PVR (I was told 6 months by a CSR a few days ago). I have no other means of recording off Voom at this time.

Voom Networked Home Solution and Voom's DVR

Because WM9 is so much more efficient than MPEG2 it will require much less disk space. WM9 on a 160GB drive would be like MPEG2 on a 640GB drive. Of course this assumes that Voom makes the switch to WM9 before their PVR is released.

    Found new HD DVR!!!

Apparently you won't be able to play your backup DVDs from this system in regular stand alone DVD players because of the non-standard file format. This is a deal breaker. And so is the price of blank media ~$14 per disc.
