Nice FM BCast Band Opening Tonight in Central Arkansas

Conway...worked over there for 20 years!

Nice FM BCast Band Opening Tonight in Central Arkansas

That night I was receiving several NOAA stations that I normally don't hear. I did finally manage to get the new SDRPlay drivers installed last night...had to temporarily disable driver cert valuation in order to for the install to work.

Nice FM BCast Band Opening Tonight in Central Arkansas

Downloaded and installed the new drivers, now Windoze can't install them properly when I plug the SDRPlay back in. I'll mess with it again tomorrow night maybe.

Nice FM BCast Band Opening Tonight in Central Arkansas

Yes, I have used it on HF several times, both USB and LSB. Make sure you are using the correct sideband for the freq band you are listening to. 40m is generally lower sideband. We have several radio stations broadcasting an HD Radio signal on FM. I don't have a receiver capable of listening...

Nice FM BCast Band Opening Tonight in Central Arkansas

Using my SDRPlay receiver and SDR#, showing a 6MHz-wide slice of the FM broadcast band. Wish I had my 6M equipment up and running :(

    Shortwave Receiver for the Car

I wish he would include a more agile FM transmitter in the unit. We have a strong independent station on 88.3MHz (KABF) which could wipe out reception of a weak transmission on 88.1MHz.

    Shortwave Receiver for the Car

I remember many years ago there were SW radios for your cars which were basically upconverters for SW to MW, allowing you to listen on your builtin AM radio. Just mount one under the dash, hook up the antenna and power leads and you were in business.

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

The two software apps I've used so far have been SDR# and HDSDR, running on an HP AMD Athlon II X4 Quad-Core processor desktop system at 3GHz under Windows 7 Home Premium--no problems unless I have something else running that also hogs the CPU. Both of these apps can use a lot of CPU for both...

    SDR Software

I've had the same problem with digital SSTV on 20 (the digital crew typically runs on 14.233) and have successfully captured one full file using HDSDR as the receiver. Too much noise and not enough signal. I've been using the free/donor-ware virtual audio cable in Windows 7 for SDR and it's...

    Interesting SDR screencaps

Thought I'd start a thread to showcase, so to speak, interesting things those of us playing around with SDR see and/or hear. Here's one to start it off with: This is a screencap this evening from HDSDR and my RTL-SDR dongle centered around 433.5MHz. On the right-hand side of the screen you...

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

I wish I had as much room as Pop! I've seen some information on building and using magnetic loop antennas that looks interesting. If I understand correctly (and I haven't read in-depth yet), one would be a little smaller than 1/4 wavelength for the lowest band you want to receive. Here's one...

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

I've used PlanePlotter so far for ACARS decoding and it has worked very well. I haven't tried any ADS-B yet

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

There are many different software packages to play with. So far, I have been most pleased with SDR# for wideband FM, and a tossup between it and HDSDR for most everything else. I prefer HDSDR for SW listening...it's noise cancellation works pretty good for me. I'm still figuring out SDR...

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

Cool! I haven't bought a usb adapter yet since I don't have a tablet to use with it. Been playing around with different SDR software (SDR#, HDSDR, SDR Console v2) as well as some digital decoding software (Dream and unitrunker primarily) listening everywhere from shortwave to 850MHz public...

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

Add another 150Mhz to that frequency...it should be 12010H. I had the wrong shift entered in SDR# so the displayed freq was wrong (my LNB for 97W is universal, for 87W it's standard  )

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

A male MCX to female F connector (assuming you are ordering the tuner from NooElec). Here's an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/6inch-RF-coaxial-cable-F-female-to-MCX-male-right-angle-RG316-/271220031032?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f25f93e38 I would use this pigtail type rather than an...

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

NooElec, as well as a few others, still have some dongles based on the Elonics E4000 tuner. These can tune a little higher than the RTL R820T tuner, but Elonics went out of business and the laws of supply and demand have pushed prices much higher for those dongles ($40-$50 vs $16). It appears...

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

Here's an SDR capture from 97W in the neighborhood of 11860H (I'm using the LNB-out from my VisionSat rcvr), as well as one from KTEL . I haven't a clue what the signals in the SDR display are yet...telemetry, packet data bursts, etc.?

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

The spike isn't present when I use it with Gqrx in Ubuntu linux on a different computer (an old Dell D610 laptop), so at least it's not the dongle itself.

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

Yeah, I noticed that too...whatever it is, it interferes with reception if it's within the signal I'm trying to decode. This is one of the R820T tuner units which isn't supposed to have the dc spike (the earlier e4000 tuners did). Maybe it (and alot of other noise from my office/ham-shack)...

SDR (Software Defined Radio) For Satellite

That's a nice looking design on the JetStream. How robust has it been? Mine is an old RatShack discone that is missing a few elements and isn't in the air right now. I've been using my VU-190 OTA antenna (VHF/UHF) for scanning and it works very well, although it's obviously directional. My...
