    GEOSATpro Recording Quality

The reason I do it is to add it to my home theater PC. I keep everything on an external 2TB drive. I recorded "Nova - Earth from Space" back in February which was 2 hours long so I bet the original was 20GB or so. I used Handbrake and compressed it down to 5GB before adding to my video...

GEOSATpro Toshiba TV remotes conflict with MicroHD

Now that I think about some more, it actually does more than it needs to do. My original hypotheses was that the microHD and my Toshiba TV shared some of the same remote control codes. For example, channel up and channel down on the Toshiba would cause the microHD to act like it had gotten a...

GEOSATpro Toshiba TV remotes conflict with MicroHD

Finally got it to work. As an extra I have it send an "Exit" remote command 2 seconds after the last channel up or channel down command to get rid of the "Moving Dish" popup should it come on when going between satellites. I used the ancient EPROM based PIC that was used in the previous project...

GEOSATpro Toshiba TV remotes conflict with MicroHD

Or maybe the light from Venus is reflecting off of some swamp gas? :) Seriously though, infrared remote controls work by generating a series of pulses, each consisting of a specific durations where the infrared emitter is turned on and off at a fairly high rate, usually about 38000 times per...

GEOSATpro Toshiba TV remotes conflict with MicroHD

The strange thing is that the uHD shouldn't respond at all to the Toshiba remote control. I've gotten as far as decoding the 32 bit code sent using IR and sending it to my PC as 1200baud serial in hex-ascii format: uHD Channel up: 40401FE0 uHD Channel down: 40401EE1 Toshiba Channel up...

GEOSATpro Toshiba TV remotes conflict with MicroHD

I ran into that situation as well. Years ago I built a board with a 8 pin PIC microprocessor on it that intercepted IR signals from the detector, converted them to another format, and sent them out again. I don't even remember what the purpose was anymore. I'm thinking of intercepting the output...

Does it involve a large hammer?

That works on Mac OS too using the terminal program (since it's based on Unix).

Whats the best TV System, Video Resolution setting?

I have my microHD connected to an Onkyo audio-video receiver that always feeds the TV 1080p. I can either have the microHD convert 1080i to 1080p or have the microHD put out 1080i and have the Onkyo convert to 1080p. I haven't noticed any difference in quality either way.

GEOSATpro Can the microHD do 5.1 audio?

Yes, PBS HD02 on AMC21. I just have a single 90CM Fortec motorized dish with normal skew so I don't get 103W.

GEOSATpro Can the microHD do 5.1 audio?

Just for giggles I took a look at one of the TS files from HD02 when they were playing "War: What Is It Good For", or something like that. The gory details are at this link: http://www.certsoft.com/FTA/hd02.txt Just the essentials:

    microHD Development: Feature Requests

TS File size Would it be possible to make the maximum TS file size configurable? I just did an hour and forty five minute record of HD video and I've got 11 .ts files I need to merge before processing by Handbrake. It would be nice to be able to have one file as large as needed but it's...

GEOSATpro microHD Hard Drive Compatibility Thread

I dug out an old 60GB laptop drive with a USB interface and external power supply. I formatted it on the microHD NTFS but my Mac-Mini based HTPC wouldn't recognize it. I then re-formatted it NTFS on a Windows XP computer and now both the microHD and HTPC will recognize it. Microsoft doesn't...

GEOSATpro Can the microHD do 5.1 audio?

That's with Bitstream digital audio output on HDMI, I haven't tried it with LPCM to see what it does. I normally use bitstream and let the Audio/Video receiver do the decoding.

GEOSATpro Can the microHD do 5.1 audio?

I just checked and "Nature: White Falcon, White Wolf" on HD01 and "The War: When Things Get Tough" on HD02 and both are Dolby Digital 5.1. NBC is probably putting out weird stuff due to legacy systems and it doesn't seem like a good investment to try to work around their strange ways....

I have an old MX-500 learning remote and it too works a lot better than the remote that came with the unit.

GEOSATpro Can the microHD do 5.1 audio?

I'm pretty sure I saw a DD 5.1 stream on HD01 or HD02 on AMC-21. Most of PBS's shows are 2.0 of course so I was surprised to see it.

    Alphanumeric remote keys for editing

Turns out the channel up and channel down (along with some others) are the same infrared code as my Toshiba TV. Kept wondering why when I went back to the satellite from using the TV it was on a different channel! Good thing there are only two TV channels here.

The "Dish Moving" popup on the screen

In normal usage there is no reason to have the "moving dish" display or delay at all. You will get video once the satellite motor is done moving.I would agree that the delay is required when doing things like a blind scan to avoid missing transponders. Perhaps a flag in the software to defeat...

Seems like it might be a problem with the remote. I trained my universal remote and it seems to be much more reliable.

microHD Development: Bug Reports and Firmware Fixes

Yes, I did a factory reset after updating to the 6-15 software.I've been doing embedded systems programming for the last 36 years so I know how hard it is to find data-dependent bugs. Especially if you don't have all the data needed to duplicate the problem. Maybe once more units are deployed...
