Polarity and FTA how is this happening?

I had already scanned (I'm still playing with it and haven't made a H sat listing and a V listing, they are all combined). Initially when you changed the channel on the FTA to something with a different polarity I had to change it with the analog receiver. But now I can flip through all of...

Polarity and FTA how is this happening?

I've got an analog receiver and an FTA receiver (foretec lifetime classic na), pulling signal from a 10' BUD. The c-band lnb goes to a HF splitter with DC power on one side only. That side goes to the analog receiver, the other side to the FTA receiver I'm watching IA-13 and suddenly I'm able...

    signal strength help

I'm looking at IA-13. I've got a 10' BUD with a fortec lifetime classic NA FTA receiver and C-band. When I look at 4186-v-5185 I get a locked indicator and level of 80%, those channels are fine. 3940-v-29270 it is unlocked and levels bounce from 0-26% 3900-v-27684 is locked with a steady...

    AMC-3 weirdness

I can tune in AMC3 on my analog, and channel 22 - CNBC comes in clear as a bell, however two channels down, Dr. Gene Scott looks like an oompaloompa. It's not clear at all, and his face is orange/red. My FTA box can't get a lock on the satellite either. What should I check?

    Toshiba TRX-1520

Thanks guys! I've managed to scrounge up yet another analog receiver from a friend. Hopefully this one will work.

    Toshiba TRX-1520

That's what I was planning on doing, but PSB mentioned moving the dish with the Fortec so I wasn't sure if there was some way to do that or if he thought I was using a smaller dish setup.

    Toshiba TRX-1520

I've got a 10' BUD. I'd need to send out voltage to the actuator so it would move the dish. Unless there's some way to do that I haven't read about yet.

    Toshiba TRX-1520

Thanks. I took the 1520 apart and it's fairly corroded inside so it's dead. So now I've got my Foretec Lifetime Classic NA and an older analog receiver that won't move the dish, though it does tune etc. when I used a car battery in the house to connect to the dish power to move the dish...

    Toshiba TRX-1520

Should this receiver power-up if it doesn't have the videocipher board in it? I was trying to find something to use to move my BUD for FTA since my Toshiba TRX-80 wouldn't send out power on M1/M2. I've got a 1520 but it doesn't have the videocipherRS board. I took the videocipher II+...

    BUD measurement

Is a dish measured straight across from one side to the opposite, or is it the full side-to-side concave measurement along the surface of the dish? i.e. is a 10' dish the distance from side to side with a tape measure suspended above the surface of the dish?

    BUD and FTA

Somehow the FedEx delivery didn't show up on Sat so I still don't have an analog receiver to move the dish. I got desperate and decided to hook up my previous analog receiver and bring a 12v battery in the house to power the dish movement. I managed to get IA5 in and the FTA receiver could...

    BUD and FTA

Grrr. my FTA receiver came in today, but I don't have a replacement for my old analog receiver to move the dish until Saturday's fed-ex. I've also got DirecTV, the lyngsat site seems to say that at 101.0W is a DirecTV satellite, but also AMC 4 which has FTA stuff. If I plug in the coax...

    BUD and FTA

I may end up going with VBOX II eventually. Right now I was just trying to get started with what equipment I did have. It sounds like I'll be doing a bit of gymnastics to get the channels tuned each time for a while.

    BUD and FTA

I didn't see a forum in the FTA areas to ask this. I'm still waiting for my FTA stuff to get here so I don't have first hand experience yet. If the FTA receiver does a blind scan, does it try to store the channels in memory with a satellite setting? If I have to use my analog receiver to...

    Help starting up old system

I've got the correct splitters on the way, thanks! Why would someone need to do this: http://www.dmsiusa.com/multiplelnbfs.htm Is that just if you can't move your dish and are using the smaller dishes?

    Help starting up old system

Is this the same thing? It seems to allow a larger freq range 5-2300MHz, would that be better? http://satellitemart.com/xcarts/product.php?productid=16305&cat=261&page=1

Ah so there's a diode on one of the output sides of the splitter stopping the flow? Is it marked on the splitters?

    Help starting up old system

I grabbed a Toshiba TRX-1520 receiver for $19.47 (shipping included) so I'll be using that as a dish-mover etc. This site is fantastic. I looked over one guy's fabrication of an additional Ku on his C-band only feedhorn but I think I'll probably end up buying the corotor and getting new...

I'm looking into that also. Are the PVR enabled models few in number right now? Is the PVR stuff like Tivo?

    Help starting up old system

I opened it up again and I have a c-band feedhorn and c-band lnb. There's no second angle off of the horn to attach a ku-band LNB. harumph, I was hoping to use what I had since I'm just playing around with it. When you look at www.lyngstat.com and "Free TV - United States" are all of...

    Help starting up old system

What would that look like? I've got a chapparal feedhorn and a chapparal servo motor, then there's that c-band MC95-40 from gardiner. Do the Ku lnbs just clamp on and wire in next to the c-band?

    Help starting up old system

Thanks. I looked in there today and there's only the connection for the C-band. It connects to a thing with a model number MC95-40 which I guess corresponds to a temperature of 40 which was also marked on the other end. I took my boat battery over to the dish and ran two leads to the dish...
