    dish live 4k?

Let's also remember that this time around, the CE technology is ahead of the broadcast technology. 4k LCD panels are super easy and cheap to make for TV manufacturers. That is why they are basically only manufacturing them now vs HD. If you're in the market for a new TV you have to go out of you...

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

I don't have an H3 yet, but HDR should only show on Content with HDR. This should only happen when the H.265 contains it. This should only be 4k content. Forced HDR and PQ are two different issues, but possibly related if it is an HDMI issue.

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

I don't think OP had an LG did he? What if you set it to 720p, does the PQ change at all? It very well could be some sort of HDMI issue that would also explain the HDR. eddie willers Do you notice PQ issues other than HDR?

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

This is very unlikely the case. Even if it did say... drop down to HDMI 1.4 it should still output 720p FOX at is full res. There shouldn't be any additional bitrate of data needed to send this channel.

Can you take a picture for us and attach it? Did Derikp ever do this? I wonder if this is a bug?

    Hopper 3 stream speed

The most I've ever seen from Dish is around 30mbps. That was at 2am or something. The more people that start using VOD the worse this problem could become. Dish's servers are one thing, but the infrastructure between Dish servers and your house is the biggest problem. It's not built for...

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

If the TV is trying to HDR when the content doesn't have it the picture should look like trash... Bad/off colors, washed out PQ etc. However, it shouldn't effect the resolution... Does the actual resolution look worse than HwS? I was thinking of ordering an H3 today, but I have the same set as...

Hopper 3 - Turning on To Home Screen Annoyance

I actually have mine tune to channel 478. You either get no content, the HD-programming-will-return-later smooth-Jazz, or Baseball. Basically the least abrasive programming you could possible start your TV to.

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

Now that I think of it. I believe that has been weirdly triggered on my TV once or twice. I don't remember with what though. Amazon content the HDR is noticeable. Do the whites on the menus look ridiculously bright? That is the other thing I noticed.

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

After I sent that I thought... it COULD/MUST be dish doing it... but incorrectly for sure... maybe they are adding empty meta data for future implementations incorrectly? It's weird they'd do it with Fox, which should just be an uplink of the local affiliate. And only HEVC should have this meta...

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

Are you sitting at proper 4k viewing distance to the TV? (You're way too close for Dish if so). Uncompressed DVD 720x480 won't look too far off from super-compressed Dish 1440x1080 especially with dish's variable bitrate that is crammed in per transponder... Ever more so if you are watching a...

    Hopper 3 terrible HD picture

There's no way Dish is sending out HDR meta data. ESPECIALLY NOT on a Fox broadcast that is 720p (X-Files). With HDR the contrast and OLED will never be toggle-able because the set needs to set the maximum nits required to meet HDR-10 standards. If you toggle these functions you will lose the...

Dish HD Channels and 4k liner Channels

You don't just walk away from the Hopper. :heartbeat I've had the 922, Hopper, HwS. I should just get both services. Aren't there people here that do this? But that can easily be interpreted as just for VOD. I hope nobody's doing UHD VOD with MPEG4 :eeek. ALL the bits.

Dish HD Channels and 4k liner Channels

Right, but the fact that they're not even mentioning it is what has me worried. Wouldn't you want to brag about what your hardware can do? Unless you don't plan on doing it? Direct IS mentioning it, and they have a pretty poor way of delivering right now, but are at least acknowledging it's...

Dish HD Channels and 4k liner Channels

DirecTV seems very leaky and open about their plans for 4k linear. It sounds like they will be getting a new STB that does this without the current double solution. Dish now has the Hopper 3, but it doesn't mention anything about linear 4k, and it's best 4k feature just involves 4 simultaneous...

DISH Hopper 3 Wins PC Magazine Award

I don't hate that :) Maybe dish will do some double or triple tuner thing to 4k us. But they still need to put those channels somewhere on a SAT!?!?

DISH Hopper 3 Wins PC Magazine Award

Does this help me on EA though? I guess with H265 dish COULD use existing bandwidth to get some 4k? AND get their 1080 to x1920 WITHless compression. A guy can dream. (Let's pretend everyone's STB can do it :( ) Won't I have to point a Dish at the South Western horizon to get WA bandwidth? /sarcasm

DISH Hopper 3 Wins PC Magazine Award

"You can actually see it ,without watching up close or having a 60" tv in your room like with 4k." So with 8k you can have smaller TVs and see it?!?!? With 8k you need to be even closer than 4k?! Like uncomfortably close. Like, so close you cannot see the whole image in your field of view? Look...

DISH Hopper 3 Wins PC Magazine Award

It sounds like you are talking about feelings more than I am. ESPN 4k is guaranteed for this year, and DirecTV will have it. There's even a game on right now that a lot of people would love to watch in 4k. and not 720p. So there's your "sports channel" (There's also a ton of other sports and...

DISH Hopper 3 Wins PC Magazine Award

I know, but Direct has significant bandwidth to display 4k channels, Dish does not. At the start it may be Dish 0, Direct 2. How quickly does that become Dish 0, Direct 10, Direct 20? We see NO mention of Dish providing Sat based 4k with the Hopper 3. Maybe they'll do it with IPTV, but I have a...

DISH Hopper 3 Wins PC Magazine Award

Ha Take that DirecTV! Wait... you weren't there? Well I guess ill just go watch Live 4k on my Hopper 3. Wait... you mean only you have announced live 4k plans? Well, i'll just watch 4 games at once on my Hopper 3 and tell myself that equals 4k. (I really want to stay with Dish, but LIVE...

Is 4k worth it. The difference is about $200

It's actually more clear than it's ever been :) http://www.cnet.com/news/lg-bets-8-7-billion-youll-want-a-tv-with-rich-oled-colors/ Any OLED you see in a store will get trace image issues because it's left on store mode at max everything which kills it. LGs 2015 OLED are the best TVs around...

    Smithsonian Channel on dish

So I just flipped on some Aerial America. Toggled 1080i to 720p quite a bit. Sat really close to my tv so I could see individual pixels. Took some up close pictures of the exact same frame, so I could do a side by side to see if either looked different res wise. Conclusion: It looks like...

    Upgraded programing, better picture. Coincidence?

Remember the variable bit-rate of Dish transponders per channel. A stations picture can change in quality day to day, even program to program.
