    Remote control AUX in cabinet

Doh! You're right of course. I had completely forgot that Dish boxes do indeed blast IR during remote setup. I never tested to see what other circumstances the IR blaster was being used. Perhaps the OP could watch the IR window through a digital camera and see if it is indeed blasting when...

    Remote control AUX in cabinet

If it is, then try using TV col instead of aux vol. You can do a quick test using the tv remote.

    Remote control AUX in cabinet

Maybe it changes the TV volume via HDMI which affects the optical out level to Aux.

Dish boxes don't have IR blasters.

    new vizio tv

Can you post any more info about this "tablet"? The tv appears to come with a standard IR remote with qwerty, not a tablet. Even if it did come with some sort of tablet remote, it would not interact with your Hopper in any way. The apps appear to be built in as they have been in previous Vizio...

32.0 remotes. Any use for them?

You'd be throwing money away. 32.0's are still going for around $30 on ebay. Not everybody has Hopper 3.

good evening my friends a hd compaision chart between dish and directv

He has a new heading before those implying that those are not in HD on DirecTV either but are available in HD on some other system. Two columns or a different or bold font for his headings would make his two lists more readable.

    dish vs direct

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, but there are a couple of good Dish/DirecTV lineup comparison charts out there: http://www.dbstalk.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=27554...

Best(i.e. cheapest) way to have 6 TV DVR service now?

One card per Roamio or Bolt (up to 6 tuners), not for the Minis. Roamio/Bolt and Minis are like Genie and Minis or Hopper and Joeys. The main DVR does everything. Mini or Joey is just a remote client. Cable tv is simple. Saving money isn't.

Best(i.e. cheapest) way to have 6 TV DVR service now?

Just watch for deals. I currently have a $300 4-tuner Roamio with lifetime and several Minis at $69 each from Woot (that deal comes and goes). You can't get the Roamio deal I got anymore, but you can buy used for about $100 more. You can also use an OTA Roamio and add your own cable card bracket...

Best(i.e. cheapest) way to have 6 TV DVR service now?

All those Charter fees go away with Tivo. That's the whole point of it. I'm paying $115 for Charter internet/TV/phone with a mid-tier channel package (like AT250), including HBO/SHO/MAX. That's far cheaper than any comparable satellite package. Plus Charter has about 50% more HD channels than...

Best(i.e. cheapest) way to have 6 TV DVR service now?

I got you 36 tuners for $12, and that's still not cheap enough? Are you running a hotel?

Best(i.e. cheapest) way to have 6 TV DVR service now?

Another vote for TiVo here. I've got one 4 tuner DVR serving 6 TVs for a grand total of $2/month in DVR and equipment fees. 6 tuners would also be $2, 12 tuners $4, etc.

    Hopper remote

The correct code for current Vizio TVs is 1758 and is NEC1 protocol. Others could have too many repeats. If that doesn't fix it, learn Mute from the original remote. The instructions linked are for older pre-Hopper remotes. So if you have an older remote, use those instructions, not my code...

56% of viewers would drop ESPN

But the whole point of this thread is that, despite the conventional wisdom that says most people want sports programming, this poll says that most people don't. ESPN is a premium network that remains in basic lineups due to this misconception. If I could save one penny, I would drop ESPN tomorrow.

56% of viewers would drop ESPN

All those bundled channels you pay for but don't watch are maybe an average of 25 cents each. ESPN is around $8. That's HBO territory. ESPN should be treated as a premium. I don't mind paying 25 cents for something I don't watch if it allows me more choice due to bundling, but I do mind paying...

    Dish vs DirecTV vs Suddenlink

6 tuners, integrated streaming, comm skip on 20 channels, file portability, global search and low cost (additional clients have no fees), among other things, puts TiVo on top IMO. I agree those 3 are head and shoulders above everything else.

    New to Dish

New customer deals are always great. But after 3 months, you're back up to about the same you were paying before. Not sure if my prices are up to date, but is probably close to this. $12 HWS $10 SJ $7 J $132 Everything (DirecTV Premier is only $120) Apples to apples, Dish normally runs about...

Discrete power off code acting as power toggle

Since ON still works and OFF is now a toggle, a workaround for a true OFF would simply be ON then OFF, possibly with a small delay in between. I've used a similar trick with Samsung devices that lack discretes. If/when they fix OFF, simply remove ON from your macro. You may even be able to do...

    Hopper with Universal Remote (MX-450)

Another dumb question, but why on earth would any universal need to learn Dish codes? Built in codes work fine. They haven't changed in at least 15 years.

switching from dish to charter tv

Well said. I wish Ceton had not abandoned its Q product. That would have given us a WMC box as simple to set up and use as a Tivo, giving cable card and WMC a much needed shot in the arm. Alas, it was not meant to be. At least we got half of the equation, the Echo (which is still buggy and...

switching from dish to charter tv

Three years ago, I would have agreed with this 100%. Charter was indeed the worst company in the country. I had my share of issues with them in the past as well. But today, Charter is a very different company. Satisfaction numbers, quality and service are way up. Lineup is the best in the...
