    DirecTV denies Tornado rumor

Isn't the DirecTV trademark a representation of a tornado? Or is it a cyclone? Some idiot might take it further and use the German word for cyclone or Zyklon, which would be the I.G. Farben/Degesh trademark for the cyanide gas used at Auschwitz. How stupid can people get?

    771A Error

About a week, ago, I was there when a 70 year old friend of mine asked me to help him convert to HD. Previously he had a D-10 receiver with a Phase III dish. To my surprise, the tech installed aa R21 with a SWM 5lnb head with a power inserter for one feed. A power outgage reported the...

Laid off , need to save money and downgrade .

The most important thing is that you want to be able Cut and Run, at will. You need to go to the public libary and check out two very informative books on money management by Harvard Law Professor Elizabeth Warren. The Two Income Trap and All Your Worth. This is the time that you do...

Laid off , need to save money and downgrade .

I'd buy a Dish 322 and install it myself. Then, I get the Family Package. You'll have two outlets, if you have a phone line connected. Don't know which dish you have with DirecTV. But, you can use the DirecTV 18 inch dish with a dual lnb to get only 119. Correct me, if I'm wrong, but...

    Is installation always this bad?

Yoy've got to remember that they've existed for the past 8 years under the Bush Administration. Things will really change under the NEW Administration. Both Congress and the Supreme Court have just made new worker's rights initiatives.

    Is installation always this bad?

That HSP is living on borrowed time. The State's "Wage and Hour" division will eventually sue them for "UNPAID OVERTIME." This is a direct violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA.) WalMart gets sued all the time on this issue and ends up paying back wages.

    Slimline 5LNB dish installation

If you can post some pictures of your situation, maybe we can be of further help. As an installer I prefer a tripod mount for decks, as opposed to mounting on a railing. We do a lot of apartment installs. Because of strength of the railing and liability issues, we avoid clamping to railings...

Question about AU9 Slimline Dish integrity

Just a little dent on the lip. You can leave it there, and it will work fine. Or, you can work it out with a Crescent Wrench or any other type of adjustable wrench.

Where can I find a pole to mount the newer HD dish on?

Ever been to a rolling mill, where they make pipe and tubing? The rolling fixture, dies and welding fixture setups cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and take a couple on months to set up just when changing runs of one pipe or tubing size.

Where can I find a pole to mount the newer HD dish on?

Not exactly.... Actual 2 inch tubing is two inches. Just use a caliper and measure the AU9 supplied pole. They are manufactures overseas. It's standard 50 mm tubing, actually 1.97 inches. Powder coating makes it about 2 inches actual. US tubing sizes are based on US Nominal Pipe Sizes...

Where can I find a pole to mount the newer HD dish on?

I've been using structual steel tubing for over 30 years, now. I've NEVER seen 1.8 inch actual diameter pipe or conduit in any supplier's inventory. That's NOT even a foreign metric size, since it works out to be 45.8 centimeters. 1-1/4 nominal pipe or conduit is 1.65 actual inches in...

Where can I find a pole to mount the newer HD dish on?

We've installed over 500 AU9's. The 2-3/8 inch actual pipe or conduit, called 2 inch nominal is too large. It splays the clamp out, and make the bolts difficult to clamp on the pole. Get anything than is 2 inch actual, and do it correctly.

Where can I find a pole to mount the newer HD dish on?

You will not find a two inch actual diameter pole at Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, or any plumbing or irrigation supplier. A so called two inch pole is actually 2-3/8 inches. We use a standard 1-5/8" or 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe with an adapter that a fellow installing contractor of mine...

    Inexpensive OTA Solution

Just remember; Outside is best...... Higher is better............. Stay away from metal, if possible.... Mounting next to the dish, is NOT good, unless you go at least 18-14 inches above the dish. In the US, sigbals are horizontally polarized. Metal above and bellow makes less...

Antenna installation after feb 17, 2009, will become a lot more difficult, when analog shuts off after that date. The definitive predictor of possible dropoffs is ghosting in analog. Unfortunately, that will be gone after Feb. 17, 2009. If you eliminate or reduce ghosting, you are also...

That has been my experience, too. I've installed OTA for over 40 years. It's true that size really matters when it comes to antenna performance. Radio waves are attenuated or refracted by solids.

Have you considered an eaves mount? It can be mounted on the rake boards at the peak. I install a lot of these for my customers, who do not want to screw a mount to the roof. They can be had at any local Radio Shack store; RadioShack.com - Home Entertainment: Accessories: Antennas...

    DirecTv Movers Trouble

My subcontractor colleague and I do a lot of apartment installs. We used to do balcony railing clamps, but many apartment managers are getting wise to the exclusive use clause. They NOW do not allow the dish to stick out beyond the railing. We looked at tripods especially made for the two (2)...

    tripod for 5lnb dish

You could have also used a standard heavy duty tripod from Radio Shack for $35 and a chain link fence line post for about $6. A standard Phase III DirecTV 1-5/8" pole non-penetrating roof mount can also be used. This adapter on eBay would make it work. DirecTV AT9/AU9 KA/KU Adapter for...

    Slimline Pole install

That would be fine, if the brick and mortar is colid and not deteriorated. We have used the adapter with the braces and the old pole on the side of the wall. You have to make sure that the Tamcons or other fasteners are securely anchored into the brick and NOT into the mortar. Strategic...

No, not really. You can use the existing pole or you can always switch the customer to Dish Network to DirecTV and back in a heartbeat. My fellow subciontractors like carrying one pole in our trucks.

    Slimline Pole install

In the case of a thin walled 16 gauge 1-5/8 galvanized chain link fence line post, I would fully agree with that statement. However, the strength of a pole is determinded by both the diameter and the wall. In using a smaller diameter, I would indoubtly use a pole with a thicker wall to...
