    swm issue

85 feet should not be a problem from what I've experienced and read. What quality of cable does the jacket say it is? If it has been installed more than 3 years ago it might not be able to handle the high and low frequencies used by the SWM8 (the KaKu dish uses 250 MHz through 2.3 GHz and the...

Weather Channel: Locals on the 8's

Never been possible? Buh? DISH Network has had this for quite some time already.

Only mpeg4 channels go out in rain

The channels are in Ka-band which is about 20 times more susceptible to "rain fade" than the other channels are. You're going to have to get a tech out to aim it as well as possible. If that cannot work you might try switching to DISH Network which does not use Ka-band for its HD service (in...

XM Removing Some Channels from DirecTV

Those channels were also removed from the online channel lineup, too. The only "Online Exclusives" left are Ngoma and World Zone. The rest of the so-called Online Exclusives were replaced with several talk channels and Radio Disney. One thing you might take into account is that XM knows...

SatelliteGuys Premiere Review: The DirecTV SWM LNB

OK, great review, but how does it work inside? Is it bandstacking like some of the Echostar switches are?

Directv 10 Channel to Transponder Mappings

If someone can do the math, D10 broadcasts a total of 500 MHz. Whether all of this is CONUS is not known (by me anyway). Question: Are the transponder sizes on Ka-band necessarily the same as the sizes on Ku-band?

Is there a new single-LNBF DirecTV dish?

That picture is definitely not the original one. I have an original one. The LNBF arm is completely different. The branding is also. The finish is different, too, and the bolts are higher (not to mention that the old one is much more round than this new one is).

Is there a new single-LNBF DirecTV dish?

Thanks Shmeff! That describes the new dish perfectly. It is certainly more flimsy. I might have mentioned already that I had to throw one out because it bent out of shape (it sat on its side in my pickup truck bed and didn't survive the trip).

Is there a new single-LNBF DirecTV dish?

Found a picture of this on eBay.

Is there a new single-LNBF DirecTV dish?

Unfortunately I don't have a picture. The original dish was the circa 1998 original RCA model so there are more differences in the new antenna than just the pan. At my house I only have the original one I bought in 1998. Whenever I try to obtain a DirecTV dish from the dump or a replaced one...

Is there a new single-LNBF DirecTV dish?

No actually it's more tall than it is wide. It sorta looks like a miniature version of a conventional Ku-band dish. It was used to replace the 18" dish at a house I was visiting.

So is it HD-lite or not?

The HD Lite gang seemed to be concerned with the resolution alone. There is so much more to "HDTV" than just the resolution. There is the color depth, the symbol rate, block size, the b-frame rate, motion compensation/estimation techniques at the encoder side, the transponder statistical...

Is there a new single-LNBF DirecTV dish?

Is there a new single-LNBF DirecTV dish? The reason I ask is that I visited a house in the Northeast that has a DirecTV antenna that is much more tall than it is wide. It would be best described as a skinny oval. It also had a smoother finish and a rather sloppy DirecTV logo stencil on it...

Slimline empty spot on LNBF arm?

On the DirecTV Slimline dish, what is the empty spot on LNBF arm reserved for? Clearly some new birds, but where will they be located and will it be one of those Ka-band multi-spot LNBFs like the center one is?

    Slinmline KA/KU Dish News

Solid Signal has been selling these to regular consumers for a little while. Here is the link. http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?main_cat=02&CAT=&PROD=AU9-S I'd love to hear reviews of how these do in the rain on the Ka-band transponders.
