DIRECTV Satellite is not currently available for new customers in your area

Yep that's what I was going to say. It claims "Directv announced" this but there is no link to such an announcement. So either that claim is untrue, or they forgot to include a link to Directv's site showing this announcement.

What are the chances Directv will change their mind and want my rec. back

If there's one thing about Directv that's consistent, it is their inconsistency.

DTV setup for a large house

You can use anything sort of USB power supply for it, it doesn't have to be powered by Directv equipment. Though as stated, you don't need a DECA at all. The only reason you would use DECAs is being under the umbrella of Directv's "official" support.

Whoa! $200 install fee for new satellite customers

It may be a little more difficult to align a dish than it used to be, but it is something you only have to do once for a fixed install. Most people subscribing to Directv today probably already have a dish anyway.

DTV setup for a large house

Can you watch 4K on three clients if they're all on the same channel? Like you say, never more than two different things on at once so you'd never run into that limit unless each client counted as one regardless of any overlap on what is being watched. I do know you watch 4K on every client...

Whoa! $200 install fee for new satellite customers

Do they offer self installs? I think they should have gone to charging for installs long ago, offering a rebate equal to the install after a year instead of locking people into contracts. All free installs did was raise the monthly price they had to charge, with all customers paying to...

    Disney/ESPN & DIRECTV Reach Deal

Up 1200% in one year??? What sort of scam is Charlie running on Echostar shareholders and those lenders? Clearly he's pushed off a huge pile debt from some other entity he controls onto Echostar, presumably in preparation for a bankruptcy reorg filing that will result in the lenders getting...

    Disney/ESPN & DIRECTV Reach Deal

Who the hell cares what issues YOU have? You weren't the person posting about having issues now were you? I'm sure you're one of the idiots who sees a person talking about issues with their car or smartphone or whatever and you'll pipe up "I have the same one and I never have issues" It is a...

    Disney/ESPN & DIRECTV Reach Deal

It is also live, whereas when you watch streaming like Netflix or Disney+ it isn't. That allows them to buffer ahead enough that short interruptions aren't noticeable to the viewer. You can't do that with live streaming unless you make it run further behind true "live" than it already is. As it...

    Disney/ESPN & DIRECTV Reach Deal

The one I used to own that I still help out with some stuff got a cable subscription and a receiver a couple days before ESPN went off air since it looked likely. I had my system set up with an ATSC modulator to feed in external content, which he'd mostly been using for Peacock content. Now it...

    Disney/ESPN & DIRECTV Reach Deal

That's how the NFL maximizes their income. They could go back to CBS/Fox on Sunday and ABC on Monday night like the old days, but adding Sunday night and Thursday night games, splitting up playoff rights, etc. gets them more money. That money has always ultimately come from you, and for the NFL...

    Disney/ESPN & DIRECTV Reach Deal

Directv's message to customers was pretty self serving, but it is true that whoever they move to will inevitably face the same thing (I guess unless they go to Hulu Live TV since Disney owns that) A lot of Disney contracts are coming up in the next year or so. The thing is, if you go with a...

    Disney/ESPN & DIRECTV Reach Deal

Yeah the SEC and ACC are wholly owned by ESPN, of course they are going to back them in this fight. The Big Ten doesn't care, because they don't have any of their games on ESPN or ABC (unless it is a non conference game played at the away site)

    Nag Screens!

There are other things you could try that might "fool" the nag screen. If you know your way around your router and networking you could block internet access for the HR54 at the router, leaving it still connected via wifi - it just won't have internet. Another alternative if you don't know how...

New Genie Menus Coming in July

That's not Directv's fault, it is the Digital CP consortium that requires all devices that get firmware updates to include HDCP key revocations in those updates. Presumably the HDCP key that Denon AVR uses has been compromised and revoked. I would check Denon's support site to see if that AVR...

    DirecTV Genie Redesigned Menus

Someone on dbstalk is reporting that his HS17 started getting locals from an attached AM21 a week ago. He said he's located in Colorado, so I guess he was in the Denver DMA and thus one of the first people to get this new update. So I take it that was part of the update? I wonder what took them...

Problems with local channels using DirecTV and StarLink internet access

Most likely Directv is determining your location based on the location of the Starlink ground station your satellite link to them is going. That's not always going to be in your viewing area.

    Power inserter question

You want something like Sonora's PI6S for applications that require 22 KHz tone/no tone and 18v/13v voltage levels.

    Real DirecTV Subscriber numbers

You think YTTV doesn't have any infrastructure costs? Directv's infrastructure costs don't scale with subscribers - it doesn't cost them anything to serve one additional customer. They are broadcasting a signal into your backyard whether or not you have a dish up to receive it. But even though...

    D11 outage 2/27/2024 (Resolved on 2/28)

They'd also have to replace all the HR34/H44/HR44 out there.

    D11 outage 2/27/2024 (Resolved on 2/28)

D11 & D12 have identical spot beam configurations, so worst case if one of them completely failed I suppose they could double up the channels on every beam. That would mean halving the bit rate for each channel, so quality would take a hit, but MPEG4 compressors have improved since those...

    DirecTV5 FCC filing

D5 is not providing service to Alaska/Hawaii, or anywhere else. It says they're doing this for "compliance with the Commission's geographic service rules". In other words, to keep Dish from trying to claim those 3 transponders for itself.

Potential changes in AT&T's ownership of DirecTV

True but the numbers leaving cable/satellite linear TV is a lot higher than the numbers of people dying. There are a lot of people who have had it for years who are deciding they don't need it anymore. Unless you are a sports fan, or are so addicted to 24x7 cable news and your preferred network...

Potential changes in AT&T's ownership of DirecTV

I don't think it is so much people making "tough decisions", i.e. their personal finances are so stretched they have no choice but to cut out TV. There were a lot more people with financial issues in 2009/2010 after the housing bubble burst and unemployment spiked to 10%, but there was no rush...

Potential changes in AT&T's ownership of DirecTV

The money you are saving easily pays for that. Hire a third party installer for a few hundred bucks and he comes by with a dish and wire and installs however you like. He's not asking questions, he's just doing a job. And they may all have already had Directv do their installs for free. If you...
