    How do you like DirecTV?

I'm a current DTV subscriber, was a Dish subscriber for 10+ years before that. I switched for two reasons, PQ and price. As of a year ago, there was still a noticeable difference in PQ, at least to me. But the Hopper 3 is leagues ahead of the HR54, and I like Dish's programming packages better...

I almost switched back to Dish today, but sticking with DirecTV.

Again, that wasn't my intention. The discussion was about the number of tuners, and I just wanted to point out that there are other advantages to the H3. We're just talking on the internet, man. You don't need to be so emotionally invested in what TV provider someone else prefers. :)

I almost switched back to Dish today, but sticking with DirecTV.

I was just pointing out that there's more to the H3 than just more tuners. As for why I'm staying, I'm in a 2-year contract. I knew that going in, and it's not like DirecTV is horrible or anything, I just prefer Dish after having used both.

I almost switched back to Dish today, but sticking with DirecTV.

Of course we want more, technology is always improving, why wouldn't we? When I was growing up, we "got by" with 5 OTA channels and nothing else, would you really want to go back to that? I switched from Dish to DirecTV last year and am seriously considering going back. I don't need 16 tuners...

thinking of switching from Dish to Direct, but have some questions

Well, the $100+ monthly savings was too hard to ignore. And it'd be nice to have those extra tuners, but the rest of the issues would still be the same.

thinking of switching from Dish to Direct, but have some questions

I literally just made this switch. After being with Dish for about 10 years, I got DirecTV installed today. Been playing around with it for a couple of hours. The picture quality is definitely better. I'm watching football right now after watching a bunch yesterday, and the difference is...

    HS 17 recalled?

I have not heard that that PQ is better on Dish, I'm frankly not too happy with it. But there's no doubt that the Hopper 3 is the best DVR on the market, IMO. I really struggled with whether or not to switch. At the end of the day I decided to make the change because of a substantial savings...

    HS 17 recalled?

I never believed them, I just decided I could live with the HR54. But none of it matters now, I cancelled my order. After they told me that my install had changed to the 28th, I got an email saying it was the 21st. I got back on chat, and I won't bore you with the details of the 3+ hours I...

    HS 17 recalled?

Could be. I did print out my order confirmation, which specifically says 24 months, though. One thing I've learned in dealing with these kinds of companies is to document EVERYTHING. But I have to say, so far dealing with AT&T/DirecTV customer service is a freaking nightmare, and it hasn't...

    HS 17 recalled?

Just to update this, I called DirecTV's sales line today and asked about the Genie 2, and they told me it's not in their system yet, but that they could make a note in my account to upgrade me as soon as it is. I decided to take the plunge, though I did it through AT&T's website, because they...

    HS 17 recalled?

Thanks, Scott. I wonder if I'd have better luck contacting DirecTV through their website, rather than through a guy who approached me in my yard when I was washing my camper. :biggrin

    HS 17 recalled?

I had an AT&T/DirecTV sales rep approach me at my house last week and offered me an excellent price on a TV/internet combo. After spending the past few days mulling it over and discussing it with you fine folks here: Yet another "Should I switch?" thread I have decided to take the plunge. The...

Yet another "Should I switch?" thread

It helps a lot, thanks! And it does go a long way toward making me feel better about losing those extra tuners. PTAT is nice, but it's not the be-all-end-all. For one thing, it screws up sometimes. I've had intermittent trouble with Fox for the past couple of years where if I wait more than...

Yet another "Should I switch?" thread

I don't have any experience with DirecTV (yet), but based on my experience with Dish, Comcast, Verizon, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Motorola, HTC, Samsung..... essentially every tech company ever, once they remove a feature, it's pretty rare for them to put it back, even if there is a significant...

Yet another "Should I switch?" thread

I was actually thinking I'd ask for an HR54 specifically to be able to do OTA with it.

Yet another "Should I switch?" thread

I've visited friends that have DirecTV, and the PQ looks quite a bit better to me. We also had a brief dalliance with a Comcast X1 box in late 2015. While we ended up returning it after a couple of weeks and going back to Dish, the PQ difference between Dish and Comcast was obvious. There...

Yet another "Should I switch?" thread

I recently found out that AT&T has run fiber in my neighborhood, so they are now able to offer internet speeds comparable to Comcast. The gentleman I spoke to quoted me a very good price for 75mb internet bundled with DirecTV's Ultimate package. Considering I'm now paying Dish and Comcast...
