Toshiba to drop HD DVD, sources say

This is just a rehash of the article that came out last week and has been denied by Toshiba.

HD-DVD (only) Owners: What do you do when it's over?

We don't have nearly enough money to buy a BR player nor do we have the room for one in our entertainment area. I still think HD-DVD has a chance since both sides produce roughly the same amount of movies and I will continue to support them.

Did ya see the Toshiba Superbowl add. Should sell plenty of players!!!

So basically it was the same commercial they have been showing. I was hoping they would mention the upconversion ability as well.

    Content is King?

I was thinking this as well. Nice to see some numbers. Though Warner is on both sides till May so HD-DVD is actually at 15985 movies which puts it a little ahead till then. Now if they would just release more titles that would be great. I hate the one or two a month they are doing. At least...

    Costco quits selling HDDVD players

I think the obstacle right now is that such a low percentage of people have HDTVs in the US and the rest of the world. For them the price is for the player, plus the TV, plus the receiver and speakers if they want the sound quality as well. That is more than most people need.

Universal and Paramount – Holding Dearly onto HD DVD, for now

I didn't think of Chinese bootlegs at all, or converting BR movies into HD-DVD ones using my computer. I was hoping some of the BR exclusive movies in the US would be released in HD-DVD format in Europe and I could import them; which is already happening. I guess I will get a multi reader...

    Costco quits selling HDDVD players

Not to break your delusion or anything, but with Warner supporting HD-DVD till May and Universal and Paramount supporting it indefinitely I don't see how we will have only one format. HD-DVDs will continue to be released till at least next year.

    Sony PS3 sales dissapointing

I'm not a PS3 fan or anything, but it was Dec. I am sure they sold more PS3s than at any other time of the year. So their sales didn't plummet at all, and judging by the sales numbers from past weeks it looks like they may have doubled sales from Nov. While this is the war zone, your title is...

Is any one making money with this deal?

This is what I bought it for. Although I got the 2 movies that came with the player, plus 3 from a list of movies from amazon, then the 5 others with the rebate. For only 129$ it was too good to pass up. Even if HD-DVD disappears, the player upconverts better than any others I have seen.

I finally gave in to Blue Ray

We are somewhat the opposite. One of the reasons we chose HD-DVD is because most of the movies we like are in that format and the studios supporting it have the catalog of titles that we enjoy the most. There will always be some movies by the other studios that we won't be able to get in...

Once again Sony is out to screw

From the article, Sony's TransferJet only works over a few centimeters while the wireless USB works at 30 feet. If your device is a few centimeters away why isn't it just plugged in? I like how the WUSB allows multiple computers to be connected and let them all use the same peripherals.

As expected some BD player won't play new BD discs.

Reading the thread on AVS is funny. Someone is all happy that the firmware update allowed one of his movies to load in only 2 minutes instead of 4. Why people view this as acceptable load times for a movie is beyond me.

CES: CC and BBuy Chiefs Comment on WB

The retailers should be happy since the Blu-Ray players and Movies give them a higher profit.

HD-DVD Death = Prolonged life for DVD

I think that by the time OTA goes digital in '09, digital downloads will be what everyone is going to look at.

HD-DVD Death = Prolonged life for DVD

We just got an HD-DVD player a couple weeks ago. The main point for us was price. We were also looking at upres dvd players and the reviews showed the cheap ones didn't do that great a job so we were looking at ones closer to 100$. Then the sale for the HD-A3 came and we were able to get 10...

What the Warner announcement has done to my household.

I feel the same as you. We just got an HD-DVD player because we felt it was a better consumer machine. The prices were lower for both the players and discs. We liked the region free aspect, as well as the online options, and no complicated DRM that sometimes prevents you from watching movies...
