Apple Event on October 22, 2013

Hmmmmm, this looks like a good deal. But when I look at the weekly ad from their website, it looks like the $25 gift card is for the iPad mini and there is a $40 gift card for the iPad 4th gen. I see no mention of a gift card for the new iPad Air unfortunately.

Apple Earnings call reports today at 4:30 PM.

Wow, Cirrus Logic (CRUS) just reported earnings. They missed their numbers slightly for the quarter ($99 million), but guided up 70% for next quarter! "For the current quarter, the company sees revenue in a range of $170 million to $190 million, better than the consensus estimate for $131...

Apple Earnings call reports today at 4:30 PM.

I still have my few shares of Apple that I purchased a while back and will still continue to hold them long(er) term. But I fear that we'll be stuck around this price for the next quarter. There really isn't any catalyst to drive the stock higher until the momentum of when the new products are...

The "new" iPad Announcement / Discussion Thread

I just pre-ordered mine. This will be my first iPad. Actually, my first apple product since my old iPod Photo back in 2004. :)

for you old geeks out there -Commodore 64 is reborn

Ahhh, I loved my C64! I started out with a Vic20 and afterwards got a cassette tape deck back in the day. I eventually saved up enough money to upgrade to the C64, but could not afford the 1541 floppy disk drive, so I had to stick with the tape drive initially. It took like an hour to load up...

    Scott's Boxee Box Review

According to some of the reviews on amazon, the 'cc' always being on is a known issue and will be fixed in the next update.

News: Intel buys McAfee for $7.68B

As an Intel shareholder, I'd rather have seen the cash come back to me. :p I also agree that we're going to see more acquisitions in the future. Problem is, this will mean more layoffs as companies get rid of redundant positions after acquisitions. So I think it might mean even more folks...

    HP buys Palm

I'm thinking it might be too late. With all the iPhones out there and Android picking up a lot of steam now, it sure seems like Palm's OS seems to be in a heap of trouble.

What is a good Wireless N Router?

I picked this one up a couple months ago. It's been solid for me, and it's neat having multiple wireless networks from the same router. It's nice to have a guest network so when friends/relatives come over, they can connect to the internet without seeing all my machines at home. I was almost...

    Magicjack and windows 7 users...

I got rid of our AT&T home phone service ($70 a month) a few months ago, and we now only have the MagicJack. Is it "as good" as our regular phone service? No way! Is it "good enough" for $2 a month? absolutely. But after reading countless articles like the one posted above, I decided to...

    Windows 7 "Beta" RC

I personally wouldn't mess around with an upgrade attempt and just do the clean install. It takes a little longer, but is the safest route. If you want to try upgrading though, there are guides around the net to try and walk you through it. It's not an automatic process and some manual...

    Noise canceling headphones

I owned these Sennheisers before. They were nice too. They fell apart after a couple years of every day use on my hour long train ride into the city. Apart from that in-line battery case getting the way, and both of the sides having a cord, I really liked them. They had nice sound for the...

    "Privacy center" virus

Good question. Best to avoid whatever Woz is using. ;) I have traditionally used AVG Free anti-virus, but have recently started using 'Microsoft Security Essentials' on my Windows 7 machines. It seems a little less intrusive and lightweight.

Keep it clean, by opening the system and cleaning out the dust when it gets bad.

Ethernet light turns off on router

I'm sure it "drains" a tiny bit of power to keep the Ethernet always running, but that would not cause a power supply to go bad. I have machines that I keep running 24/7, and their power supplies keep right on chugging along even after I outgrow the machine years later.

    Win7 RC to Full version.

There are many guides online to do a "fresh" install of Windows 7 with an 'upgrade' copy of the disc. I haven't done this yet, but this one seems pretty good... http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_upgrade_media.asp Paul usually has a lot of good Windows info on his site.

    Windows & 64Bit Windows 8 or 9 128Bit

If anything, my experience has been that "upgrades" of an OS causes problems. Clean installs are always the way to go when possible. I just clean installed Windows 7 64-bit on my 2 year old Q6600 PC with 4GB RAM. It runs great. Just curious of what you'll be using your machine for that you...

How do I get my new tv to display 1920x1080 on my computer?

How to serve videos on computer to an xbox 360 or PS3

I started doing this a few months back with a Windows 7 machine hooked into my network serving movies and TV shows to my XBOX 360 using Windows Media Center. It works pretty well so far. There's a plugin called 'Media browser' for WMC that gives a relly slick "cover flow" GUI to it all and...

    Router recommendation

You could also just get a gigabit switch to add to your existing router. By hooking all your devices into the switch and then you router to the switch, they should all be able to talk to each other over gigabit, where it counts. It should matter that your internet traffic through the router is...

    XP Remote Desktop

Right, remote desktop will take control and lock the local console, so someone sitting at the machine won't see anything. Unless they do a login, then you'll get kicked off and they will see your desktop until you reconnect.

    Firefox 3.5

I have been running FF 3.5 for a couple weeks now, and I don't honestly notice much speed difference from FF 3.0. I also had a couple crashes. But it's not anything severe enough to make me go back to 3.0. All my plugins still work too which is good.

Build Vs Buy (the new computer quandry)

Only if you plan on doing overclocking. If not, you shouldn't have any issues with the stock heatsink/fan that comes with the retail version of the chips.
