    Dish to expand HD

That assumes that most of us live in places that have HD we can receive. Better yet, you assume that if we can receive, everything is in HD. While yes, I do get NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, ABC, CW over the air into my Dish box...... PBS's signal isn't strong enough to actually lock onto, and FOX...

    Dish to expand HD

If it weren't for the locals requirement, this would be a non-issue. I'd rather go back to the USSB days when they just had network feeds and avoided all this nonsense. Unfortunately, people whined, etc.

I think it's more likely they just want money period and whether they'll use it for HD production hardware or not is irrelevant.. :) Those dollars fold into a wallet just as well as they spend for HD production gear.

    Dish to expand HD

E* has been committed to the 1 dish solution (from what I've seen). However, they use the 61.5 sat because they acquired it from Rainbow DBS. I think we'll see the comeback of a single dish solution when the new sats are launched. If things are still all screwed up after that, there should...

The Portland, OR DMA is almost 2 times larger than our entire state's population. Wikipedia says Portland, OR's 'metro' population is 2.3 million. Our state is around 1.3 and has 2 (almost 3) DMAs.. :) The problem is that most of these smaller DMAs don't have the money required to go fully...

    Dish to expand HD

This is correct. Our locally developed programming is not in HD and probably won't be for a while. They still had to install new broadcast hardware and HD reception hardware for the network feed. For a long while ABC was pulling in the Nascar ESPN feed in SD. They finally did add the...

    Dish to expand HD

Yes but there's no reason to switch to digital and not upgrade to HD at the same time. The networks have HD programming ready to go and viewership only goes up with primetime in HD. Just as a side situation: Our local FOX station has claimed the FCC is the reason why they aren't able to...

    Dish to expand HD

I do think it has to do with money ultimately, but our CBS station is already in HD here in the city and was one of the first to do so years ago. I believe CBS was also in HD on cable when they were Adelphia, but when Time Warner took over the market it became a dispute. Unfortunately, our...

    Dish to expand HD

Our local TWC also doesn't have CBS in HD. In their case it has to do with an ongoing dispute with the local CBS station.

Actually my area is nearly perfect, but we won't be seeing HD locals for quite a while. Took until Dec 2005 to get them in SD... :)

Not only do they have to strike a deal, they have to co-locate their uplink hardware somewhere too.. Here it's at our local NBC station. They collect all the stations in the city into there, and then shoot it out to Dish via fiber supposedly.

    Dish to expand HD

It seems to be true for the most part though.. When D* didn't have crap for HD, people came to E*. People coming from cable (after their ridiculously low promo deals) will pick one of the two. I think that's the plus and the minus. The customer base roams around and the customer base roams...

Charlie is waiting to launch his satellites taking up valuable garage space at the launch companies. If you have a better way to get them up there, let's hear it.. :)

Being able to stream shows via ethernet from one DVR to another would rule. I do hope the DLNA/UPNP support for DVRs isn't just a flash in the pan. Being able to stream shows around (locally within the house) would be great.

I don't believe what any of these guys say until it actually launches. It's always surprises instead of disappointments that way. D* just likes to take their lies and slick marketing to every single channel I watch a couple times an hour. That's an expensive way to totally BS everyone.

    Dish to expand HD

We're talking within a few million of each other though. Dish only sells in like Radio Shack, Sears (neither very well from what I've seen) and some TV ads here and there. DirecTV sells with CC, BB, Papa Johns, and a ton of other places. The marketing machine doesn't seem to work very...

    Dish to expand HD

D* still has the biggest marketing machine and the largest count right now. I don't think it really matters until E* matches or beats them. Will E* match/beat them? I absolutely believe so. Either way, I'd not go back to D* for all the tea in China. E* is really limited by how much they...

USA Network - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia They site a wrestling site, but some other people cited other materials here that said the same thing in a different thread. The launch is connected to WWE RAW going HD on USA Network. I agree with you that you'd think Dish would have it up...

USA has said their HD feed is officially launching on Jan 28th. What's on D* right now is probably like when my local Papa Johns opened ahead of their 'Grand Opening'.

    Dish to expand HD

No more or less fuzzy than the other carriers, in all seriousness. Comcast (and some other cable MSOs) are claiming to have the most HD because of their VOD library. Some of this content costs additional fees either in PPV concept or otherwise. D* counts RSNs, but also leaves out the fact...

    Dish to expand HD

They have to have actual HD channels to add but it may have to do with slots and the potential to add LNBs and more hardware at the individual customer's sites too. It should be interesting and they should've said this before now though.

    Dish to expand HD

Tiered HD is what people said they wanted here.. They said they wanted to be able to JUST get SD simulcasts in HD. Those people will get what they want. I don't see the big deal as long as I don't pay more than what I do now. If the big plan stays at 20 bucks, and there's a 10$ option for...

    Dish to expand HD

Either Portland and Bangor ME are too close on the map, or Dish has once again overlooked the Northern half of the state in order to serve the cable-oversaturated Southern half of the state. The Northern half has only some cable, while the Southern part has a majority of cable penetration.
