    STS-132 Space Shuttle Atlantis

I was referring to the Thermal Protection System in terms of damage. Since Columbia, each flight has a cleaner and cleaner TPS and they have gotten quite good at detecting debris and damage. I don't believe we'd have another failure related to the TPS again in the program. Just like since...

    STS-132 Space Shuttle Atlantis

A bit late to the party, but I'd like to make a few comments. If the proper precautions are taken, it can work just fine. Since Columbia, there have been no threats of any unacceptable damage, each flight keeps getting cleaner and cleaner. I think they've really hit the nail on the head to...

    Space Shuttle Discovery STS-128 Launch

Yep - testing was completed this evening, valve was successfully cycled open/closed 5 times and indications point to it being a telemetry problem. Mission Management Team meets at 1 PM EDT tomorrow to go over the test results - assuming they find it acceptable, we'll have a launch early Friday...

    Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-125 Launch

The problem is that NASA doesn't always have an HD channel. They only run the channel during missions - usually they put it up a day or so before launch and take it down after landing. So most of the time, they don't have an HD channel. It would be totally worth it just for missions though...

    Space Shuttle Discovery STS-124 Launch

Nope. Yes...they do have the ability to control the temperature, mostly it's in the mid 70's. Shorts are easier to maneuver in and more comfortable. Even better: NASA TV 1200 kbps.

    Space Shuttle Discovery STS-124 Launch

NTV isn't on Dish/DTV as NASA is still considering it a test channel (only went live this week, will probably shut off after the mission is over). Once the channel is permanently established I'll hope for a provider to pick it up. In addition to HDNet, CNN also is showing it in HD.

Space Shuttle Endeavour Launch on HDNet

Does that not somehow violate the contract they had with NASA? Or does it have some kind of provision in it that says they can tape delay the broadcast as they see fit?

Space Shuttle Endeavour Launch on HDNet

Deorbit burn was successful...now at entry interface...landing should be at Runway 15 at KSC at 8:39 PM EDT. Set your DVR's. :D

Space Shuttle Endeavour Launch on HDNet

No-Go for deorbit to KSC on orbit 248 due to low cloud cover. It's supposed to break up in time for deorbit on rev 249, which would put landing back at 8:39 PM EDT. If it's still No-Go on 249, both KSC and Edwards will be called up tomorrow.

    RTN question

They have a local channel in Buffalo NY, WNGS. I believe that WNGS is the one that is on C-band, although there may be others. Their website is RTN 11 / WNGS-TV: Buffalo's Home for Classic TV and Western New York Sports (They call themselves RTN 11 because on local cable they are channel 11)...

Space Shuttle Endeavour Launch on HDNet

    Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-122 Launch

Not to sound mean, but that is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've heard all day. But, to each his own... Anyway, great launch. Interesting roll maneuver following launch. If anything, it looked really cool. Looking forward to an action packed successful mission!

Highly descriptive article: STS-122 troubleshooting begins at pad - NASA identify fault candidate - NASA SpaceFlight.com Looks like NET Jan 10. right now. Would make it a 2:26 AM launch. Night launches are always cool...even if it means I get no sleep that night so I can stay up and...

    Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-122 Launch

Partially the same issue, but it's worse. An LH2 sensor failed during tanking, but LO2 sensor 3 also failed as dry when it was really wet. This is the first ever problem with an LO2 sensor. Looks like any investigation or repairs will take up the rest of this launch window. If a rollback is...

    Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-122 Launch

Technically no...the launch window itself is open every day until 12/16. If they attempt Sunday and Monday then they need a 72 hour turnaround to top off the cyros. The new LCC for tomorrow is that 4/4 ECO sensors must be working to attempt a launch. This is increased from 3/4 because when...
