    Miss my Orby...

Well to me the loss of Orby TV is just further evidence that the idea of offering a low cost linear pay TV service is just not sustainable. ... It just seems that for linear TV at least, anything other than the free advertisement supported OTA model that's been around forever is not stable. The...

    Retrofit DirecTV dish for OrbyTV?

Nah ... For elliptical dishes like the DIRECTV WD one, you have tilt the entire dish to skew the LNB. Round dishes with linear LNBs are usually made that way to allow only the LNBF to be skewed. But not elliptical ones. .... Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk

    Retrofit DirecTV dish for OrbyTV?

IIRC, when standing behind the WD DIRECTV dish. The dish degrees on the tilt plate are numbered 0 to 180° in a clockwise direction with 90° at the top of the arc when the dish is exactly level horizontally (meaning the LNB Skew is 0°). For the Slimline it's 0 to 180° counterclockwise. So for...

    Retrofit DirecTV dish for OrbyTV?

The linear LNB of a WD dish should already be in the center position of the LNB arm and the circular one for 101W DBS service to the side. So yes just remove the circular 101W LNB. And then try the following as I once private messaged another Orby sub.using the DIRECTV WD dish. Go to...

Offset angle forthe Orby Satellite 117W

So the thinking of Orby on this is perhaps as explained here for instance? https://www.satsig.net/pointing/elliptical-antenna-orientation.htm Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk

Offset angle forthe Orby Satellite 117W

I wonder why Orby choose an elliptical dish anyway for a single satellite slot service? Elliptical dishes are really needed for receiving from multi-sat positions at once. Unless Orby wants to future-proof for possible expansion to other slots. Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk

Offset angle forthe Orby Satellite 117W

Remember though, if you're using a DIRECTV Slimline mount the skew or "tilt" setting on the back plate is numbered to be 90° minus the skew number from dishpointer. So you would set the skew on the dish back plate for 90°- 39.8° or approx. 50°. Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk

    Retrofit DirecTV dish for OrbyTV?

Or if you don't mind spending a bit more and while supplies last from some distributors like S.S. here .... You can forget about retrofitting a DIRECTV Slimline and just use their old (and now obsolete) 95W World Direct dish and LNBF. Works exactly the same as an original Orby dish. ...

So do we know what the Ethernet and USB ports are for on the OrbyTv DVR Receiver

So Orby TV DVRs and STB receivers have no networking capability for sharing recorded programs between boxes as of yet (or if ever)? Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk

Can't get OTA signal to every tv.

While I agree with the 8 db insertion loss of the four-way splitter as it's really a "power divider." I don't see how the diplexers cause a 3 db loss. As they're actually band combiner/isolaters. And thus either combine the power of two input bands (minus some bulk material loss of the diplexer...

Can't get OTA signal to every tv.

Hey, just curious .... When you speak of using these old DIRECTV multiswitches with Orby TV. Do you just run the 13v (nom.) of the switch to the LNBF (to power it and always select vertical polarization) and leave the 18v (nom.) output of the switch unused? Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk

    Change the local channel antenna

Oh I realize this; But I was specifically inquiring about the 4-way satellite splitter used in "truckracer's" Orby setup. Which is a bit different than the standard installation. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

Sure ... Just disconnect and remove the old antenna run the new one through the same OTA/SAT diplexer of course. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

    Using direct slimline with orby?

Actually what looks to be almost identical to the Orby dish, even right down to the 11.7-12.2 GHz linear LNBF. Is DIRECTV's (now "former" as they're ceasing production of it) 95w international dish for their "World Direct" service. So may want to save yourself some headaches trying to convert...

Or perhaps you should qualify that last statement with; "You don't really know of anyone today who is willing..." Since admittingly many (me included) did pay $500+ for DIRECTV receivers in the early years of the mid 90s [emoji6] Yep ... For instance, two agents came to my door couple of...

One of problems here too after a brief survey of the family of giving up DIRECTV Premier for Orby's ("very") basic package right now ... But it's actually compounded by the loss of all three Hallmark channels (including "Hallmark Movies & Mysteries" and "Hallmark Drama" in the Extra Pack we...

    Orby TV Just Installd mine

Oh ... ok ... My bad then as LyngSat has Orby TV color-coded as "SD Encrypted" with only two Ku transponders on Eutelsat 117A at 117w. So assumed that was correct with such a limited bandwidth of two tps. even with HEVC and 8-PSK. But hey, I'd like to look into this more as I've had DIRECTV...

Even though it's only an SD service? Wow ... I remember the days when both DIRECTV and DISH were taking regular beatings of complaints from many subscribers clamoring for more HD. And many hated and even refused to watch SD any longer. Also, what kind of format is the SD in? Widescreen 16:9...
