    For what it's worth...

I find it ironic that people who pay $10,000 and more for Home Theaters are pinching pennies when it comes to the monthly programming charge and thereby not accessing the full spectrum of their HDTV capabilities. It's like buying a sports car but only putting in a cup of gas at a time just to...

    For what it's worth...

It's all about choice not economics. FYI I watched every channel VOOM had including Devine and Auction . It was nice to have an alternative instead of the SD channels. I never watched SD except for The Daily Show and CNN World NEws. Having 40 HD channels was not only great but logical just like...

Dish / VOOM deal ( NO DEAL )

It will cost a minimum of $149 up front to get the Dish deal started. They credit you $49 back after the first month but charge $100 for the Dish.

Voom'er switched to TWC, very displeased

Unfortunately cable TV does not have "native resolution" so you have to go with 480i or 1080i and either stretch or black bars on the side. That is a dis-advantage.

PQ on VOOM tonight...is it just...

Shutdown was interesting. My PQ was always good except for some of those early Equator shows which obviously had post-production video noise introduced into the picture. Watching Time/Warner Cable in the meantime and the PQ is pretty good all things considered. Since I have no commitment to...

Are voom and dishnetwork dishes aimed in the same direction?

I've heard they are the same but then Sean said they would move VOOM programming over to 148 not 61.5 so now I'm not sure. May have to have the VOOM Dish and a companion Dish Dish in order to get VOOM & Dish. (Does that make sense?)

VOOM Channels I'll Miss - How About YOU?

WORLD CINEMA - Showing of foreign films like "Amelie" & "Z". Many others too numerous to name but it kept us in touch with the cinema from other countries. KUNG FU - Didn't like it at first but then they showed some Kurosawa films like " The Hidden Fortress" the inspiration for Lucas' "Star...

    Final Voom Billing??

I guess if you bought the VOOM receiver you are stuck with it. But if you are rentng/leasing it on a montly basis I suppose they COULD charge you $400 in the final billing until you return it. That was my point. Guess we'll see. Just gripes me that Jimmy Dolan gets the money.

How is VOOM going to uninstall 46,000 people in one month?

Suppose they charge everyone's credit card for $400 dependent upon returning the STB? Can they do that ?(I smell James Dolan at work here.) Let's see $400 X 40,000 = 16mil

    Final Voom Billing??

What's this I heard about a final billing from VOOM? We are paid until April 26th (so I thought). That would leave 4 days of VOOM unless they are going to tack on cost of equipment pending its return.

For Some there is an intelligent alternative !!!

Good idea. There are DVD's and even books you know. Those who have OTA are fortunate but how about waiting? What will we miss? The NBA playoffs go on for nearly 2 months! Netflix is a great idea!

    VOOM "Shutdown" schedule anyone?

Does anyone know what time will VOOM actually be shut down on the 30th? Midnight eastern or 6am or what? Don't want to be in the middle of a program and have it go black.

    E* or D*

Would not rule out cable. Both Dish & Direct carry only about 10 or 11 channels of HD. My Time/Warner Cable company carries 14 HD channels. Then there's OTA HD.

Anyone recording for posterity? In hidef?

I'll be recording several hours of TANK for posterity. Also, I do not have a fish tank.

Offers your getting from various companies (dbs and cable)?

I checked my local cable which is Time/Warner and compared it to DirecTV. This is what I discovered. Satellite and cable TV can offer 19 HD channels according to what is available as follows: (These are the actual channels most services COULD offer) HD MOVIE CHANNELS (6) (Add East & West...

May 1st where will you be? Dish, Cable or DirecTV?

Someone should mention Charlie before his next Charlie Chat that, according to this poll "Dish is the least desired service of all." 1=cable 2=DirecTV & 3=Dish.

I am going with Cable, what about you.

What after VOOM? I've been comparing DirecTV and Cable. Locally it is Time/Warner LA. Here is the breakdown of what is available in HD. CHANNEL DIRECTV TW CABLE ESPN YES YES UHD...

    A Sad Day

This is a sad time. But the really STUPID part is this: right now DirecTV & Dish COULD offer HBO-HD East & West, Showtime HD East & West, Starz HD East & West, Cinemax HD East & West and The Movie Channel HD. That's 9 movie HD channels. Add to that the 5 OTA network HD stations (including PBS)...

    Voom's PQ Is Lousy

Silas, wipe the peanut butter off the screen.Unplug the toaster you are using for an antenna and call a tech. service person to help you move the TV out of your trailer so they can hook it up properly. Take down all the coat hangers and oh yes....buy an HDTV and have it calibrated and properly...

    why I cancelled VaVaVoom

Makes a lot of sense to spend thousands of dollars on a Home Theater and cut your bill to $40 per month. While you're at it why not get rid of those pesky electirc lights and get candles. Also, two tin cans and a string will work wonders for communicating......

Poll: What Screen Size do Voom customers prefer?

HITACHI 53 INCH (53UWX10B) Anything beyond 65" and you have to have a huge room for viewing effectively. Also, you will begin to notice artifacts in the picture at such a close range. ( as some people have discovered who measure their screens in feet, not inches) Good poll idea.

Shutdown? Just got deducted Next Month...

To Nervous Mindstein: I don't ever recall a screen saying that. We are simply paying for the next month as usual. Calm down. I have seen no official information other than it's business as usual. You are repeating rumour. Relax......watch VOOM.

What will you do if VOOM goes under?

Actually read all the John Grisham books I carried with me on airplane flights for the past 10 years ( as required by the national airline code act of 1995) I understand he is pretty good.

New SD and WealthTV VVV Only Channels:

Who cares? What's the difference? $49 vs. $89 a bargain compared to cable and other satellite companies. You get 10 premium movie channels in addition to VOOM's 21 Originals. I noticed though that a lot of what Wealth carries is "bumped-up" from SD to HDTV.

    Great Voom install experience!!

Welcome to the VOOM experience. My install a year ago also went great. The guys even came back later to check my dish and cut a limb that was blocking it. Hope you enjoy many delightful hours of VOOM viewing.
