Better late...But PQ is back with a WOW!

I agree, it looks like they improved it. Too bad it's too late.

May 1st where will you be? Dish, Cable or DirecTV?

I already signed up with cable for the HD DVR and will stick with that until something better comes along. They don't have nearly as many HD channels as VOOM, but at least the PQ is top-notch and suffers from none of the compression artifacts that have plaqued VOOM since the new encoders were...

Harmonic Encoder Improvements? (Feedback Need it)

Enough talk about this problem, let's fix it already! While image quality with little or no motion may be improved a little, motion artifacts are often pretty bad. Did CVC lay off anyone with the technical knowledge to fix it?

Harmonic Encoder Improvements? (Feedback Need it)

Add to the list of problems caused by the new encoders, digital audio dropouts, at least on Rave.

Is Rave only available with Voom Satellite?

Rave is one of my favorite channels, and I'll really miss it if Voom goes dark.

    DirectTV or Dish??

In my area at least, cable is a better option than DirecTV or Dish. Not only is it cheaper with equivalent programming, cable has more HD channels (each with full 19.4Mbps bandwidth), and I'm renting an HD DVR for only $6 a month.

Now that VOOM is dead, who will be your provider?

I'll stick with cable until something better comes along. They have more HD channels than either D* or E* (all at full 19.4Mbps bandwidth), and I'm renting an HD DVR for only $5 a month.

    Voom Sink or Swim

I've been with Voom since day one, and I'm very happy with it. It's a very good service, and I just don't understand why they haven't been able to sign up many more subscribers. Granted, Voom has made some mistakes like hiring incompetent installers, but right now no other provider - satellite...

    Terrible SD picture quality

The SD PQ on all satellite providers is pretty bad right now, usually worse than analog on a good cable system. It's pretty bad when we have to use a 50+ year old NTSC standard as the hallmark, but Voom and the others are more interested quantity than quality. It wasn't always that way. I was an...

Save me from the darkside ;)

If PQ is of paramount importance to you, you might want to ask your cable company how many HD channels they are encoding on each RF channel. A 256-QAM system is capable of 38Mbps per 6MHz RF channel, so they shouldn't be encoding more than two HD channels per RF channel. Witness what DirecTV is...

Should Voom Carry O&O HD Networks?

No way! A total waste of limited satellite bandwidth. One of the main reasons PQ on E* and D* has deteriorated over the years is the addition of locals in so many markets. Let's not do the same thing to HD.

Why Do HD Ch's Annoy Me?

Talk about annoying, my local PBS digital station has this huge bug identifying three channels in the lower right and the PBS HD bug upper left. Both are on continuously.

Why Voom is Doomed - one customers saga

To show that not all intalls are bad, my installer showed up exactly on time with no intervention required on my part twice; once way back when for the original installation, and the second time when Voom swapped out my STB for an upgraded one.
