30 sec Commercial for Nextgen TV

DVDs had some of those same features in the beginning, but the only one that remained was the audio track selection. If the format doesn't collapse due to lawsuits and DRM, I'm pretty sure most won't care about those things.

    ATSC 3.0 DRM Encryption

Yep, 3D TVs were all the rage in the early 2010s. Then, they ended up getting ditched for 4K. ATSC 3.0 tuners could become another door stop if the mess doesn't work itself out.

It's on 58.2 (formerly Stadium) in Nashville.

Circle closing down at end of year

I noticed that their programming has basically morphed into the same type stuff as any other channel out there with the same syndicated content. The only original programming they air is during the primetime hours. It seems nobody wants a Nashville-themed channel like in the old days. TNN tried...

    ATSC 3.0 DRM Encryption

Everyone's talking about the whole DRM thing while the patent wars are cranking up over 3.0. That alone could be enough to kill off the standard without considering DRM. If that one company can take advantage of LG and others, I'm sure other patent holders of 3.0 tech are talking with their...

10KHz is not much space to send any kind data at all.

Say goodbye to ATSC 3.0. LG has suspended inclusion of ATSC 3.0-compatibility in its 2024 television lineup for the USA

Good riddance! I'm glad I didn't invest in the technology. If they're going to lockdown the technology and not allow consumers to record what they want, why even keep it around? Adoption has been slow to begin with. With the whole DRM debacle, just let it die already. Give us some enhancements...

    ATSC 3.0 DRM Encryption

Those that say, "It'll never happen" in regards to the FCC somehow limiting the free airwaves, never say never. The FCC has often went back on their promises to consumers. Remember when consumers fought to have the ability to have their own decoding equipment and we got the cable card? Now...

Eight CBS-owned The CW affiliates to become independent stations in September 2023

Unfortunately that name is used for an OTT box overseas and a Michael Moore film. Surely the marketing geniuses at Nexstar can come up with something much better than "CW" to rebrand the channel.

Silicondust started testing for Nextgen certification on June 3, 2023

Live TV is going the way of the rental store. It'll probably exist in some form (Redbox), but it's relevancy will dwindle down. People want to watch what they want without a lot of hassle. ATSC 3 and its control structure is going to kill off what little demand there is for live TV via OTA...

    ATSC 3.0 DRM Encryption

I say let the lack of market demand kill off 3.0. I was all for new technology and improved standards, but if it's going to be used to take away the rights of consumers to record their content as freely as possible, then let it die. We don't need a coupon program to subsidize a model that only...

Is ATSC 3.0 sputtering or out of gas?

I'm thinking that without another mandate, 3.0 will be a slow turtle dragging its feet in adoption. The problem is that there are too many alternatives now and so many people would rather stream their entertainment to their phone or tablet than to "tune in" a channel. Don't get me wrong, I don't...

Nexstar looking to purchase the CW Network

In the current landscape in which ATSC 1.0 is still dominant, I would say that VHF or UHF broadcasting does make a difference. I don't know if 3.0 will overcome the noise factor, but you need good gain on VHF to overcome the noise factor and get a viewable channel, especially on VHF Low from 2...

    MP4 OTA Testing

I think it'll be quite a long time before you can cram 480i quality video into a medium wave broadcast of 10khz in bandwidth. You have to devote a portion of the bandwidth to error correction. With the HD Radio system, according to Wiki, at 10khz of bandwidth, there's 20kb/s of audio data...

Nexstar looking to purchase the CW Network

It would be nice if they would change the name to something that sounds more appealing than CW. I never cared for the name. I miss the old days of having a WB and UPN channel.

    Oxygen OTA channel

Back in the days of analog, I remember MTV 2 used to be OTA in some areas, so I wouldn't say it's the first pay tv channel to be on OTA.

A new diginet called StoryTV will be launched on 3-28-22

One of the nearby markets went to 3.0 and stacked multiple channels on a select group of towers. One group of channels included Comet at the end of the list with a bitrate of around 600 kbps. Any little bit of action on screen and the whole picture would be covered in a mass of macroblocks.

Can we keep track of new ATSC 3.0 stations going on the air?

As long as the stations don't sell much of their bandwidth for datacasting or broadband to the point they have to compress the crap out of their channels, then it might not be a bad thing. That would be my concern about the new standard. In that case, even with a better codec and better quality...

Let's supposed what if we have a technological video codecs compression breakthroughs that coud fit in MW band?

I don't think it's possible with the current compression tech. You need error correction bits packaged in to keep it from being a garbled mess at the least little error intercepted. By the time you add that in with the other parts of the packet, you've gone past your allotted bandwidth.

What are your chances of getting Newsy TV Network in your local broadcasts areas by 10-1-21?

W34EY-D (low powered station) in Huntsville, AL area is now showing the Newsy bumpers on 38-1. It was Classic Rerun TV for a week after dropping Court TV. It sucks because I'd rather watch classic television over the news any day.

    New Home Setup?

I've got the 4228 antenna and can receive channels as low as VHF 7 at times from about 70-80 miles away. I've also got a more local Hi-VHF channel 11 station that's around 20 miles away that picks up well if it's aimed directly line of sight. The 4228 does have Hi-VHF capabilities, but I'm sure...

    2021-22 Syndication Update

I figured they'd stack it up with Friends and have a schedule of NBC's 90's style Must See TV on Nick at Nite. On a side note, it makes me sad to see that TV Land has devolved into a channel of mostly self-produced content rather than the classic TV channel that it started out as. I was so...

    Timeless TV

A low powered station in the Huntsville, AL area used to air that channel. They replaced it with Buzzr instead. There wasn't much to watch on there besides the few sitcoms they showed every day. It mostly had filler stuff and was more of a waste of bandwidth than anything.

"THIS" Tv's future after Amazon buys MGM.

If I was the head of This TV, I would seek some kind of agreement that goes beyond the current one before it changes hands. I have a feeling that once Bezos gets the library, he'll want a pretty penny to license any of it out in any future agreements. He could also refuse to do so since that...

How local TV stations plan to remain relevant as viewers shift to streaming

I see your point on everything but getting free 3.0 tuners. The 3.0 push is market-driven rather than a government mandate like 1.0 was. 1.0 will be with us quite a while after 3.0 becomes more popular in most markets. I do think that 3.0 should've been pushed to the market sooner or that the...
