    Question for Tivo Owners

You could use a Slingbox instead of a Stream as I do. A 350 is cheaper than a Stream anyway.

    Question for Tivo Owners

You can get some of that back selling your old Tivo.

    Comet TV

Most of those are probably redundant anyway. How many re-runs from the 60s and 70s can anyone stand to watch?

    Comet TV

They carry about 10 local subchannels in my neck of the woods, including Comet as of a few days ago.

If you are using WMC as a DVR don't upgrade to Windows 10

I haven't really looked into it that much, but Schedules Direct comes to mind. Officially isn't supposed to be used in commercial products like WMC, but many do use it for that. All guide format details have been published by Microsoft, so you could probably even roll your own if you were so...

If you are using WMC as a DVR don't upgrade to Windows 10

Sad news, but not unexpected. I'll keep rolling with my Win 7 WMC setup for several more years, hopefully. Silicon Dust and apparently Ceton are working on alternatives as we speak. WMC is still the best free DVR available. You can always just run your current setup in a VM in Win 10 as well and...

    Moving from Hopper to Tivo

Not sure if Tivo has this option, but in Media Center I can specify a time as well to filter out mis-tagged reruns. So if the rerun comes on at 9 and the new episode at 10, then I can specify "New only, around 10".

Who here has a DVR for their antennas? What DVR do you have?

Correct, but it's still free in Win 7 and continues to work fine for recorded TV. Back when Win 8 first came out, MS was giving away WMC upgrades, and the "Pro" upgrade was only $15. Even though I got about 10 of them, I still run Win 7 on my main HTPC because it's compatible with my 5 Ceton...

Who here has a DVR for their antennas? What DVR do you have?

Yeah, my kids (teenagers) are big fans as well. But that's the kind of thing a cord cutter can easily get online using Hola and iPlayer. It's a shame the PC option gets dismissed immediately by most for being too complicated. It's really no harder than plugging in and setting up a new printer...

Who here has a DVR for their antennas? What DVR do you have?

Dude, 3 HTPCs in a row! I thought I was the only one. Edison, why do you have Tivo AND DirecTV? Isn't that really expensive? There's nothing on my OTA sub-channels that's worthy of $550 worth of Tivo.

Who here has a DVR for their antennas? What DVR do you have?

Windows Media Center with SD tuners for antenna, Ceton for cable. Same guide and whole-home capability as Tivo, virtually for free. My kids use iViews in their dorms. Very simple guide, but only $30. Hard to beat that on a student's budget.

    Moving from Hopper to Tivo

I hear you. I couldn't have made the switch much sooner either even though I was tired of Dish's programming disputes. Up until recently my cable company had literally 20 HD channels. Then BAM, they do some upgrades and have something like 220, far more than Dish or DirecTV. Ever since HD came...

    Moving from Hopper to Tivo

Thanks for the link. Nice deals. If I went back to Tivo, I'd probably go with the Roamio Plus with lifetime so I could do Mini's on my other TVs. For now I'm going to stick with cable, Windows Media Center and my 5 Ceton Echoes as long as I can. That's essentially free besides the hardware costs...

    Moving from Hopper to Tivo

Lparsons, I enjoy all your posts. But I have to ask how you can bounce around from DirecTV to Dish to cable without getting hit with ETFs, un-recouped equipment costs and such. Tivo alone is probably a grand. Isn't all this switching pretty costly?

    Moving from Hopper to Tivo

My Moto TA does 6 at least on any and all channels. Anyway, the TA isn't the limiting factor, it's the cable card. All the TA does is request a channel be put in the the stream, doesn't matter how many since the requests are done in series. Bottom line is you have nothing to worry about. The...

    Moving from Hopper to Tivo

Unfortunately Charter doesn't have such a hotline. I've paired about a dozen cards with Charter. Could take minutes or days. Luck of the draw. The last tech that came to my house was eager to learn from me and wanted his system to be like mine when he saw what it could do. Ceton has said that...

    ATSC tuner

Just plug a $80 HD Homerun into their PC and get an IR dongle so it works with a remote. Unlike the DVD recorder route, you get full HD and full guide with an excellent interface. I got a similar setup after dumping Dish and DirecTV and absolutely love it. In fact, it's so seamless, my wife...
