    HDMI conversion to coax??

Ha, my son just bought a 27" Sony crt HD monitor made in 2005 for $25 last weekend. It even has a HDMI port. We're using it for older game systems and it makes them look really good. But it is heavy as hell (96 lbs) and I'm sure it's using a crap load of power. So I'll have to turn down your...

The new Mi Box is out

The main problems with the Logitech Revue was due to Google lacking the balls to keep updating it's version of Chrome to play videos from all of the sites that blocked it. But I think Google was more interested in eventually partnering with these companies than fighting with them. Thus making...

Streaming TV, how do you afford bandwidth costs?

Not really, satellite service could reach those speeds. And I wouldn't choose that over DSL.

White House Takes Rare Step Of Requesting To Argue Directly Against Aereo Before Supreme Court

Isn't this the same administration that received a boatload of campaign contributions from industry executives? No conflict of interest there now.

Google introduces Chromecast, a $35 HDMI streaming solution for televisions

The only thing I can think of is the wireless streaming that Intel has available with it's onboard graphics cards. And the last I looked it was a lot pricier than Chromecast. So yes, Chromecast is a good solution. But since I already have a htpc connected to one hdtv and on my other hdtv I have...

Google introduces Chromecast, a $35 HDMI streaming solution for televisions

I don't think anyone has experienced blocked video on the Chromecast, but GTV didn't have any problems until the content owners decided they didn't want people watching their web content on something other than a pc. I don't know if it is even possible to block content, but there might be a way...

Google introduces Chromecast, a $35 HDMI streaming solution for televisions

You forgot to quote the rest of my post. That buying a wireless kb and hdmi cable for a laptop is a better investment than a chromecast that has mediocre or blocked video. edit: I just read the requirements for streaming hd video. And, sadly it needs a fairly strong (newer gen i5 and...

Google introduces Chromecast, a $35 HDMI streaming solution for televisions

That's exactly what I'm wondering about with this device. It sounds great, but if the video is mediocre or the network sites find a way to block this the way they did with GTV, then that $35 is better invested on a wireless keyboard with a built-in touchpad and a hdmi cable for your laptop. You...

    Tivo Premier and Amazon VOD

Yep. I see the same thing. A channel with 2 or more subs will be under 5mb per hour for HD, while a channel with no subs will have 8gb or even be a little bit more for an hour of HD. And it sure is noticeable in pq.

    Tivo Premier and Amazon VOD

I downloaded in HD House of Cards ep1 and Portlandia Season 3, ep1 to my Tivo Premiere. Checking my shows on Tivo Desktop shows the following. HoC: 56 minutes, 2,180 mb; Portlandia S3E1: 22 minutes, 870mb. Pretty small compared to ota HD recording sizes, yet they still looked pretty good. If you...

    Crummy Amazon rental experience

That's a pretty surprising message to get considering that Amazon video can't be streamed to a Tivo in the first place, only downloaded.

    Crummy Amazon rental experience

20Mps is plenty fast for Amazon. I currently have 15Mps and have no problems at all. Back when Amazon first started their vod service, I got a few free sd videos and watched them without any problems. And I had 1.5Mps dsl!

Amazon Quickly Scoops Up Netflix's Missing Viacom Content As The Streaming Market Gets More Fractur

I thought that this might happen. Amazon did the same thing when Netflix dropped a bunch of A&E/History's reality programming. Competition does keeps things interesting.

What is the better choice for streaming: Netflix or Amazon?

If there was a more convoluted model of doing business than Hulu/Hulu Plus, I've yet to see it. But then it's owners (Comcast, Disney, News Corp) never really wanted it to succeed. These guys are too invested in the current way of business to try and make something different work.

You're not taking into account the number of new households that are created every year. Yes, the numbers for pay-tv subscriptions continue to hold up, the overall percentage of households with pay-tv subscriptions is going down. While I don't remember the article, I do remember that it said...

Annual Google IO GoogleTV Post - 2013

Since it's an older piece of hardware made by a company that no longer makes Google TV boxes, you'll get little to no support and it will be less useful than newer boxes. Not the answer you wanted, but I guess it's the one you expected. If I was interested in Googe TV, I would buy one of the...

The New Roku Interface is Live

I had to force update all three of my Roku's today. But they all got updated and it does look better than the previous interfaces. I do agree with the majority of you that it still use some tweaking, but I'm sure those big ads on the interface are being paid for. So don't expect that to go away.

I wish Google would update Chrome for Android to make it more like Chrome for pc's. So you could fool websites into thinking that you're browsing them on a pc and not on an Android device.
