    Initial dish aiming questions

Thanks again for the help everyone! A few observations and updates to my little saga: 1. Initial aiming at my true south SAT never panned out to an actual channel received. I aimed as best as I could for a semi-strong signal and left it at that. MUCH better results on the rest of the arc...

    How To Move A BUD?

I moved mine my renting a UHAUL and placing it in the back. Just sat it propped against the inside wall. Secured to the sides with Gorilla tape to keep it from sliding. Sounds crazy but it worked great. Not the cheapest. But, it made the trip without any bending or moving of adjustments...

    Initial dish aiming questions

Oh if only. I messed with it thinking I could get a better signal. I did mark things but its been a struggle. A good learning experience. But still a struggle. I made a little progress re-reading instructions and following to the T. Helped a bit. But, Im having a hard time with the "take...

    Initial dish aiming questions

Thanks for the link. Not sure if its the same one, but i read one with that same picture in it. What I dont understand is why you would twist the entire mount if you cant lock a signal. If your true south elevation is different than 5 degrees over from it, I would think that would throw off...

    Initial dish aiming questions

So, I would still setup my elevation to the same at true south and then just motor over to AMC6 to tune that in? I dont seem to be able to hit anything until I get to Galaxy 17 on 91W.

    Initial dish aiming questions

I seem to always have lots of questions. But, I get answers here and I appreciate it. To start, I have a 7.5 ft mesh dish, polar mouint, X2 premium HD receiver and a actuator hooked to a VBOX positioner. Im in upstate NY so.... Latitude: 42.67° Longitude: -74.35° I would think that...

    Movin, movin movin...well not yet.

I got my V-Box in the mail, hooked it up, and now I'm moving around easily. UI would definitely recommend these boxes. Sort of like a DISECQ to old C band positioner bridge. I just wish they did USALS too. Aside from that, Im quite happy with the setup.

Thanks phlat. I did read a few of those. I wanted to make sure it was the cable and there wasnt another way Im missing. That cable cost makes it a bit of a crazy idea to use the 922 as JUST a dish mover. A VBOX is cheaper than the cable itself. Im sure others have other reasons for using...

    Movin, movin movin...well not yet.

Im probably going to use the vbox only for the moving of the dish. But, when you say "Do a mapmaster", do you mean using mapmaster with a USB cable? I just wonder for future reference if I ever do decide to try and utilize the 922.

Im still having trouble setting up my arch properly. But, I swapped out the actuator for another one that a guy gave me. Here's some pics of the old and new ones. I have a V-Box coming in the mail coming today. Here's the old motor. Nothing wrong with it. Here's the new one. Appears...

    Movin, movin movin...well not yet.

It may be a few days before I update anything. I messed with my arc and seem to have lost a lot of SATs. I may need to re-aim to true south and get my declination right before I try anything else. I think Im getting it over with and buying a VBOX too. Seems like the simple answer.

I have an actual mover. Im looking for a way to store and recall the SATs. But, thanks

    Movin, movin movin...well not yet.

I'll put up some more specifics and pics of the gear later. After reading a bit, I may just buy a dish mover. Would be nice to just use my current receiver and have it translate diseqc into the mover positions. Im surprised they havent built a receiver that does that and still supports...

    Movin, movin movin...well not yet.

After setting up my 8 foot pole mounted mesh dish,(with lots of help from this forum) I found a way to move it. But, it's a temporary fix with no way to save SAT positions yet. So, I have a few receivers and need some advice on how to move the dish. Also a quick actuator question. I have a...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

Thanks a lot! I did see that site earlier but not the same manual. Now I need to figure out how to select the SAT on the same box. I really hope I dont need the remote for that. I might sleep at some point. :) I was already up on the BUD with a flashlight messing with the Ku side. Thats not...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

This is sort of a nice surprise. I hooked up the motor tonight. I had an OLD STS MBS-AA Microprocessor system. Looks like its from the 80s. I used it to move the dish with the meter in the house. I have it hooked to a X-2 Premium HD receiver. Not a stellar plan I know. But it works. I...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

Wow. Thanks so much to everyone. As the sun went down, the nerves calmed a little. My focus was a little better. And, apparently, the dish was following my lead. I HAVE CHANNELS!!! What a great feeling! Proof that it was me and not the equipment. I feel a lot better about tackling this...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

Im actually talking about both. I cant seem to get anything. It does seem to have some signal. Just not enough to pick up a channel of any kind. Maybe I should hang it up until I have more patience. After bending the mesh and smacking myself in the head with the bracket (attached to the...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

Im about to say screw it and scrap this whole thing. After spending all that time moving, mounting, studying, I hooked up the 621 LNB. I got about the same results I got on my 3 ft dish. Some signal jump when I move it but not substantial. Nothing I do gives me a strong signal. I string...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

I didnt drill or weld ears on. I just cut it at a diagonal. Hopefully that will be enough because its staying in the ground now. I will do without the cover since I dont care about the looks. I'd actually prefer to see the LNB. I think they look cool. Especially that Chaparral with the Ku...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

Had a fun day working on the pole mount. I wish I could have had someone take a picture of me in my convertible BMW, top down, with a 10 1/2 foot long pipe sticking out of the back, pink washcloth flapping in the breeze, in the rain. WOO HOO! With the longer pipe, I was able to sink it 45...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

Thanks Fat! I'll keep that in mind. I always wondered if they were necessary seeing as all the places where electronics exist are sealed up pretty well. Would you say its better to take it right off or just pop some vent holes? AS far as the dish mover/receiver I have a small pile of...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

I planned on trying the setup the way it is first. Seemed like an easy option. And its setup for the arc already if it stayed through the trip. Has a Chaparral KU and C LNB with a polar rotor. Pics attached. That looked like a good quality part. I removed it to clean spider webs and stuff...

Looking for an 8 foot solid dish mount options

Just an update. The same guy hooked me up with a 7.5 foot mesh dish with mount, actuator arm, good Ku/C LNB with a polar rotor. So, now the job gets easier. Sink a pole in the ground and Im all set. Cant wait.
