    Auto Racing 2024

That is quite something. Personally F1 is boring as all heck, but it is carrying better than Indycar ever does, except probably the Indy 500. This weekend: WEC is in Spa IMSA are in Laguna Seca Indycar are Grand Prixing it at Indy. Kyle Larson's tests at Indy for the 500 have reportedly been...

To minimize the digital sideband is to get rid of IBOC and switch over to MA3 which is much tighter and less extra bandwith spillover. Of course there will be always clash between analog to analog or analog to digital and digital to digital on nighttime propagation. Best was is to minimize...

Do you need a parabolic antenna?

Parabolic antennas are everywhere. From the tiniest little “ray gun” toy to the massive dishes in the desert, they’re a part of our lives and something we almost couldn’t live without. Yet just like most of our modern world, they didn’t exist 150 years ago. What is a parabolic antenna? A...

    AM at low power

Totally illegal, but we hear of it in the industry. It's a bad gamble. Translators are NOT allowed to "originate programming." Many of the FCC "field offices" are now closed so their monitoring in the course of normal day to day operation is not happening. The public doesn't know the "rules"...

Would it surprise anyone that some AM stations go silent while keeping the translator working? Where I live there has been more than one incident of this happening. My guess is that they are betting on the FCC not caring or having enough people to check out adherence to the requirements.

All that will happen in this scenario is "digital noise" fighting with other "digitnal noise" at night. This is why when HYBRID DIGITAL (notice it's not "high definition) came out, many AM's were not allowed to use it at night because of their (hash noise) sidebands interfering with other...

What is “rain fade” and is it a big problem with satellite TV?

Rain fade is the term for interruption in your satellite service due to bad weather, whether it’s raining, snowing, or doing something else. The weather in front of your dish is so intense that it just can’t let in the signals. Is rain fade a real problem? Obviously if you’re experiencing it...

I think it's has to do with Earth's daylight west side moving away and incoming nighttime from the east. Normally around sunset the skips signals comes in pretty good, but as soon at least 2 to 3 hours after the sunset skips signal will settle down to normal levels, but may vary from night to...

THROWBACK THURSDAY: When people cared about Nielsen ratings

Back in early 2013, I published an article saying that Nielsen ratings were going to include streaming. I’m sure they do by now, but I don’t think I wrote a followup article. Here’s why: People stopped paying attention to Nielsen ratings. Not all people, just regular people. The Nielsen...

EchoStar/Dish raises doubts about 'ability to continue as a going concern'

DirecTV tried that, did not work. Dish in 5 months, unless they get a loan ( with awful terms) or investor(s), who also will be wanting some kind of guarantee or collateral, will not have enough money to continue services. So they definitely do not have enough to finance exclusive TV shows...

Bally Sports RSNs Are Reportedly Preparing For Bankruptcy

Better answer, I missed this when it was announced- In February, commissioner Rob Manfred said he hoped to launch a national, in-market streaming package in 2025 with about half of the league’s teams. Bringing that to fruition would be a huge deal. Not because it would make a lot of money at...
