Traditional Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2024 Edition

...so they're monetizing it via fixed 5G. At some point they'll have to stop taking new subs (or build out more capacity) because they don't have *endless* excess capacity. I noticed that just this month they announced that fixed 5G users may see their speeds throttled (de-prioritized) if they...

Traditional Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2024 Edition

Just read Comcast is about to do their second price increase of the year ( which has always been fees going up), first in SF, then of course it will be rolled out everywhere else ( all at different amounts)- On April 1, 2024, Comcast released a new rate card and Cord Cutters News received a...

Who can you call if you have problems with the satellite TV system on your boat?

When we hear from our customers, the most common thing they say, right at the start, is “This thing almost never gives me troubles, but…” It’s true. Satellite TV systems for boats are incredibly reliable. When you consider the combination of sensitive electronics and sea air, add in the huge...

Traditional Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2024 Edition

As I said before, I am in a Rural Area, where they did not have Broadband till 2018 ( moved here in 2020), the only reason why it is available is Charter took the money from Florida and the US Government. I do wonder how many new towers are going up with the grants T-Mobile and the rest of them...

Traditional Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2024 Edition

T-Mobile has expanded out into rural/small town areas a lot the past few years. I think a decent chunk of their fixed wireless subs are rural folks who had no other option (aside from maybe DSL, as you say). Some of those are getting T-Mo's fixed 4G and some are lucky enough to get their fixed 5G.

    Buyout bid for Paramount

Not a big deal for myself either, as I have explained before, took her a couple of weeks to get used to it. here- YTTV is now the gold standard for Streaming Paid Live TV, lot better then most Traditional Providers also.

    Buyout bid for Paramount

Yeah, this pretty much jibes with what I'm reading too. I always figured that whoever buys Paramount would keep Nickelodeon, which has a valuable content library (kids love to rewatch shows and it's perpetually "new" content to every kid just turning 3 years-old) as well as IP that can fuel...

    Buyout bid for Paramount

Yeah, the original guide layout was my only real gripe, but even that wasnt a big deal to me personally. Otherwise, it worked and worked well. Perhaps I am remembering it through rose colored glasses looking back, as I know YTTV has added features that have surpassed the others in many ways.

It became better, but before it had a real guide ( remember clicking on the tiles ) it was not that easy for some to use.

    Buyout bid for Paramount

I did as well. For price, sure, but also the writing was already on the wall that Sony was gonna pull the plug, so it was find the next best thing. Pleased with YTTV when I have it, but I still preferred Vue.

Traditional Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2024 Edition

Based on the numbers, 5G is getting a lot more subscribers then who is leaving the cable companies, I assume it is those leaving the dsl type services for 5G, doubtful it is rural areas because of the lack of towers ( myself included).

    Buyout bid for Paramount

To this day, I still think it was the best overall Live TV streaming service, and as you said, I said as well, the naming was a misstep. Sony Vue would have been less confusing to the average joe. Tying it to the playstation name made many (most) non gamers ignore it completely.

    Buyout bid for Paramount

No my point was when it was said, Sony kept out of the streaming business, I was pointing out they were one of the first! And for what ever reason, they walked away.

    Buyout bid for Paramount

Playstation Vue was a live tv service, not the same thing as Paramount+. It never had that many subscribers, when YTTV started up at $35, the few hundred thousand subs Vue had quickly abandoned the service to go to YTTV, myself included. Now today, YTTV has more then 8 Million subs, will...

What is the right signal level for a headend system?

The internet has a lot of information but I was surprised that the answer to this isn’t already online. The best search result I found was a scanned PDF from about 25 years ago. So let’s dive in. First, the basics. What is a headend? “Headend” describes a television system that’s like a small...

FUN FRIDAY: Computer Addicts in 1983

Anglophiles will tell you that the BBC has a history of being, well, a bit stuffy. But occasionally, they’ll laugh at themselves. When they do, it’s usually hilarious to the rest of us. A perfect example, and probably a subject of a future Fun Friday, is “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” a sketch...

    Buyout bid for Paramount

You mean PlayStation Vue? Yeah, that was a virtual cable TV service, similar to YouTube TV. Folks who tried it tended to love it. Lots of folks thought it's biggest problem was its branding, which gave the impression that it had something to do with video games or that you needed a PlayStation...

    Buyout bid for Paramount

I have a inside source, getting rid of Paramount+ is not what is being talked about. But some Cable Channels……..I will say a strong possibility of a few for sale before their value drops too much more, BET, VH1 are the ones most talked about, maybe MTV, Comedy Central, CMT also, not...

Traditional Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2024 Edition

Yeah, a lot of folks leaving cable broadband are switching to fixed 5G, although many to fiber too. Just this week, Comcast announced a new low-end value-priced option, designed to compete with 5G, I'm sure. It's called NOW Internet. It's prepaid, no contract, no credit check, no add-on fees...

Summer’s fast approaching and that means road trips! It’s time to get out there and see the sights. If you’re like millions of other Americans, you got into the RV craze a few years ago. ...what I'm reading about Skydance lately. Obviously, I have no inside info and it's certainly possible that Skydance is just trying to create the *impression* that they'll keep Paramount largely intact because that's what Shari wants to hear. (Deals like this -- involving a founder or other...
