First, a little history why I do not think I am out of line with this rant.

I retired a few years ago after spending nearly 40 years working with computers;all the way from an IBM602a to the IBM 9400. I wired control panels on the earlier equipment and wrote programs in nearly a dozen programming languages. My last 15 years before retirement was spent as a CICS software specialists. CICS is/was a mainframe mult- threaded transaction processor)

Now to the rant.

Much frustrating effort was spent trying to get Directv2pc working - on a pc that passed 100% the "Playback adviser."

In all my time with computers I have never seen such a piece of pure garbage as directv2pc. The author of that piece of whale-poop should be tared an feathered.
No sane person would even consider terminating a program with a message as non-informative as "an error has occurred". There is no excuse for not providing a reason for the stop.

I believe that if I had ever done anything that stupid, my manager would have threatened me with immediate termination if anything that dumb ever got past me and released to the user community.

The Problem I discovered was a problem with the sound driver --- how hard would it have been for directv2pc to report "a problem with sound" rather than just saying "an error has occurred"
