According to 'Sports by Brooks', Urban Meyer is new....

Come on, it's a slap on the hand.

It just sucks that we won't be able to go to a bowl next year when we go undefeated. The NCAA is punishing players/coaches that weren't responsible.

Ohio State had already offered to vacate the 2010 season, return bowl money, go on two years of NCAA probation and use five fewer football scholarships over the next three years. On Tuesday, the NCAA tacked on a year of probation, took away four additional scholarships and imposed a one-year bowl ban.

And it sucks that it took so long for the punishments to be handed down. We could've vacated this bowl instead.

Look at it this way, HD...USC had much stiffer penalties, and that has not kept Lane Kiffin from great recruiting classes. For whatever recruits they may have lost because of the scandal, they still have a ton of great players pouring into the program, sanctions and all.

So we have go one year without a National Championship...the most important thing is that I don't believe this will have much of an effect on what Urban Meyer is trying to accomplish.

Me neither. This should be just a minor blip on the radar of success that we have in store for our future. Onto bigger and better things. I am glad that with these sanctions FINALLY being handed out, that this program can now move on once and for all.

Remember back in the original Tressel thread that I avoided for so long...when I finally came in and suggested Buckeye fans stop arguing with the haters and just sit back, wait and see what happens? I said the only thing we know for sure is that Ohio State will come out of this and be strong again.

Sometimes the girl is right...

I'm sorry. Is it 2013 already???

Wait, lemme check...nope, it's not. I have this really cool thing called a calendar!!!

Hopefully Santa will be good to you this year...

Sandra

The way you were talking, sounded more like a crystal ball and not a calendar.:)

Ha. I guess you can say this if it makes you feel better. Auburn was under a microscope during this whole time. Had nothing to hide. Now if you are talking about Mississippi St........

Umm, Auburn was not even mentioned till one day when the NCAA came out on a Tuesday and said Newton was suspended. THEN the NEXT day changed it's mind.

Exactly .... Had they not waited till Christmas, maybe we would have had the opportunity to lose THIS years Bowl instead, while we had an intern coach.

Just gives Urban a year of practice, a chance to have everyone fully integrated into his Offense by the time it really counts !

Well, speaking about OSU in particular, both the crystal ball and the calendar look like OSU is coming out of this OK. OSU has some sanctions but nothing debilitating, and they have a good coach. Now they can get on about their business.

It didn't look so good for OSU back in the crazy days of everyone piling on them in the Tressel thread, so that's why I suggested sit back and wait.

It may not make all the OSU haters happy, but OSU fans have reasons to be optimistic.

NCAA did not suspend Newton. Auburn did. NCAA reinstated him. Get your facts straight.
Now let's talk how Urban is going to be coach of the year. :)

Ummm, How can the school suspend you and the NCAA un suspend you ?

Doesn't work that way.

Either way it was a VERY shady dealing.

I wonder how Mr. Newton did with his 180,000 for the year, supplemental income I suppose.

I'm not sure if it would have helped or not, but maybe they should have proactively banned themselves from bowl play this year since it was pretty much a lost season anyway. Maybe the NCAA would have accepted that instead of next year's ban...

This is what Jagz said a few months ago, and I agreed. Of course, there is no guarantee of that, so if the NCAA did not accept that, OSU would be out two bowls instead.
