Could a old voom box for for star choice?

I've heard it's a similar chip set (505) I'm not sure what the differences ware between that and the 505a...
 
The following policy generally applies for Star Choice, Bell ExpressVu,
DISH Network and DirecTV:

If a receiver was not part of the company's inventory at one time,
it will not be authorized for service. Cannot think of any exceptions.
 
A 505a is just a refurbished unit. The 505a's were at one time a Voom 550 box. It may or may not have been activated, but they had the ATSC tuner removed, face place switched and were flashed with new software.
While making this changes allows it to work on the *C network, you can't do them yourself.
