Dish courtesy call

Yeah you should see how fast they are advancing it. When it was first started about month or so ago it was not useful info was so outdated it was no use and only told us if it had signal loss. Now I can pull all receivers on a account and see if they have hard drive failure signal loss the modulator setup, the remote address and it does a self diagnostics which can detect misc. failures which then advises replacement of the receiver. It was explained to me we are hoping to be very proactive in the future being able to contact majority of customers with issues and resolve them. In turn reducing a fair amount of customer churn.
 
Is this in the new work orders or contracts anywhere that the equipment is doing this now?

The dual tuner receivers are the only ones capable of the health report looking at the contract I see no changes probably falls under the *Dish can change the equipment exclusion in the contract*. Can you restate your question or expalin further?
 
For what its worth, I was just contacted by the Dish Network Corporate offce regarding this post, and this is INDEED a real legit service that Dish is offering its customers.

Sounds like a good thing although I could see why people woould be suspicious. :)

The makers of smart appliances have stated very clearly over and over that their appliances have the ability to not only connect to a wired or wireless internet service but to also contact the company for service, the pharmacy for refills on your meds, the grocer when your low on weekly shopping items ect ect ect, point is is that they make it clear that these appliances will call out on their own without your telling it to do so. Has dish updated its contracts and or work orders and the training of the technicians and the csrs and sales reps to notify the customer that their sat box is making calls to home without asking for permission from the customer to do so?
 
Just got a call from Dish saying that they have noticed that I have been having signal strenth issues with my VIP 622. Is this normal that they monitor my system? They asked if I having been having any signal loss. Or bad weather in my area. I did'nt know that Dish cared that much about me.
They asked if they could send someone out on Dec. 25 I declined saying no one should work on Christmas day ,the girl laughed (Sounded like she was from India) So we resceduled on Dec. 28th. Anyone have any thought on this?

get this. The local DNSC office here is REQUIRED to be open on Christmas Day as well as ther other 364 days of the year. Dish does not believe in holidays.
We are a DNSC contractor. We are closed. The GM of the DNSC office would never send us work on a holiday. He is very practical.
He told my employer that they are pulling the 12/25 jobs forward to 12/24 or setting them up for 12/26.
I think it is outrageous to think that tv is THAT imprtant that Dish mgmt belives it is appropriate to send service people out to work in people's homes on Christmas Day..Or any other national holiday.

Dish's call centers are open..
BTW the reaction you got ,the laugh, from that person in India is offensive.
We wouldn't expect them to work on a Hindu or Seikh(SP) high holy day..

That would be a no as "calling out" falls under the legal language of receiver and software "function" and "service" as described in the agreements and terms of service.

I just found out my fridge has firewire this month... Very cool.

I agree. I never worked a Christmas day in my life. Thats why I declined the 12/25 visit.
 
Remember Scott Peterson killed his wife and Dish Network turned over records of his DVR?

Dish had a lot of info of what his actions were down to the keystroke. I can only imagine they have improved the technology since then.

They also sell the viewership records in aggregate to Nielsen
 
The main thing they turned over to the courts was the fact that Scott Peterson had ordered PORN and that was during the first few nights that Lacy disappeared . THe csr who talked to him had to testify. Imagine that testimony.
 
I've worked on christmas in the past. My son is working christmas this year. It's no big deal for some people. For others it's an outrage. If I told my current employer that I want Solstice off they'd look at me funny. (I am a shaman) Pretty soon I will retire and then I won't be tied to anyone else's holidays :)
 
Didn't they also want toio see if anyone was using the receiver when she dissappeared?

Thats nothing new at all, dish has always been a 365 day business as far back as I can remember when I worked for them. My current employer started giving its employee's christmast off as of last year otherwise we work each day of the year other than that one.
 
I also suspect that this new monitoring that they are doing is to reduce churn and so that they can do the diagnostics from their end to understand what is going on. This is a very good idea for resolving technical issues. It would be great if they could make changes via satellite or phoneline to the screens to change settings if needbe. These are the same things that are able to be done over an internet connection to fix computer problems. I've read where Dell has new software to do some things like this for their computer systems now.
 
I find this absolutely amazing considering the fact that I went through numerous no show/no call appointments for an upgrade followed by the same scenario again to get the screwed up install done properly. This was just a few months ago. I've literally had to spend HOURS on the phone trying to get service on more than one occasion and now this?:confused: Maybe so many subs are jumping ship they have time on their hands? Sorry for the negative reaction but I really think I earned it, LOL. Hopefully this truly is a sign of better CS.

Well Dish showed up for there courtesy call to figure out why I had a signal loss, As it turns out there was no signal loss, everything checked out fine. Dish tech said probably happened on a day that was bad or stormy weather, could have been a power loss in my area for a short period of time, He suggested if they would call again with the same problem have them do a signal check while your on the line with them, this would save a trouble call.:up

Well the rcvrs have always called home without permission that isnt new ... thats how we knew if a rcvr was connected now when they call home we just get more information
 
if you have a phone line hooked up to your receiver then dish can view your signal strength....you dish may be in the yellow and needs adjusting.
