DISH is airing inappropriate ads on TV Land

Fines? The ads may be offensive to some, but they aren't against the law.

The FCC are one of the BIGGEST EXTORTIONISTS in the entire government.

If some "family friendly group"(think thugs with pencils) writes enough about it, the FCC will look into it and fine them.

Hell, they just fined, I think ABC's NYPD BLUE, for something that happened 5 years ago(2003). And it lasted for about 1-2 seconds, and aired after 10:00pm.

Thank God they are here to save us all(and make some money in the process).

But I do agree that type of advertisement does not belong on TVLand at any hour, and they should at least apologize.

But fine them, no.

The "in your face" nature of tv ads (ie... Make Seven Up Yours) these days and the repetitive nature of them has continued to push me towards those channels that do not air ads or put them all together between shows. As well, I have begun collecting those old favorites that TvLand shows on DVD so that I can turn the tv off. The newest tv show seasons are now on DVD so quickly that I'm am almost ready to disconnect from the broadcast world. The dvr makes it alot easier to tailor tv watching on my schedule and skip the ads but DVD is even better. Plus I get extras and bonus material. Several families we are friends with feel the same way and we have started to build a library of material so that we can all keep the total costs down. Our own private NetFlix if you will.

As for the western world showing gratuitous nudity so what's wrong with the USA? Explain this one to me: The nations with the most nudity on regular tv also have the highest suicide rates.

When nudity is used to commercialize and turn humans into objects, life has less value and that's not how children need to be raised. It's not so much about what as it is about how.

If you looked like some of the people they air on GGW nude and found out it was published nationally, you'd be cuttin some veins too...

MTV eh? They seen to have a pattern of TITalating audiences for ratings.
I'm not for censorship but they should refrain such ads during progs that children watch or flag the program for mature audiences if such ads are aired so the TV or STBs can block it out, and if so show the damn bare teats instead of just teasing us with them with little black squares. :hatsoff:

Here's another spin.... Brady Bunch, Leave it to Beaver, I Love Lucy and so on are "good" (clean, innocent, etc) shows yet they're only shown at 3-5am in the morning on TV Land. What if I'd like for my kids to watch these shows instead of SpongeBob and the like ?

...

4:30 AM Brady Bunch, The The Private Ear : TV-G
5:00 AM Leave It To Beaver Bachelor At Large : TV-G
.

TV-G (General audience): Programs issued this rating are deemed appropriate for general audiences, however content in these programs are not always specifically intended towards children. (That's the official definition of the TV-G rating, not my own words.)

TV-Y, TV-Y7, and TV-Y7-FV are the ratings that are below TV-G. TV-Y is the ONLY rating that's considered (by the rating system) to be suitable for ALL ages. TV-Y7 & TV-Y7-FV are considered unsuitable for children younger than 7 years old.

I know TV Land is included on most "family" tiers and that it was originally a spinoff of Nickelodeon/Nick At Nite, but I've never considered it to specifically be a "family" channel. To me it's a channel that airs older shows...nothing more, nothing less.

You got adult locks, HELLO, put them on. If they don't work, SIT THERE WITH YOUR CHILD and WATCH THE program also. Instead of doing something else, spend time with your KID!

OMG i called them and asked and they didnt know anything about it.. wtf o.0

You are right! its the chatline commercials not the GGW.

I asked a few friends that still work there and they are clueless about it.. wow

Commercials dont have ratings either standard or expanded like the actual program does and not all of what dish shows on its channels has a rating of any kind either such as most if not all of the international programming.

In a perfect world we would all spend every waking moment with our kids, the reality is that chores need to be done, bills need to be paid, errands have to be run.

Earlier I went onto the tvland site and there was the movie posting for upcoming shows and one of the movies shown was flashdance. How many here would consider this a family movie? I wouldnt consider it to be suitable for any kids under 13.

So now we have 2 or 3 people that have made contact with viacom, I've contacted a local news station about it as well and have to wait to hear back from them.

Spoken like someone who has children..... I have to wonder if some of those who respond to the contrary do not have kids.

Not in Central or Mountain timezones. It was aired in the 9:00pm hour in those timezone. If you look at the stations the fine was against, it wasn't against all ABC stations, only those in the Central & Mountain timezones (they get prime time an hour earlier than Eastern & Pacific).

Ok I watched this morning on Direct. Not a single commercial for anyone who is not fat, buying houses, or needing help getting up.

I wrote down the commercials....

I wonder if the day of the week makes a diference, most commercials geared towards dirty old men and 30 somethings living in moms basement tend to air from thursday to early sunday morning on the latter half of the week on party days.

A few points.....

1. You recorded programs that were airing when all the kiddies are supposedly asleep. The average viewer at that time is not interested in the latest Chinese toys from Mattel.
You are being purposefully obtuse.

The days of adult and family broadcast times are fading fast in the rear-view mirror and being quickly replaced by adult, mature, adolescent and family themed channels and programs and v-chip ratings controls.

Do you believe that if a v-chip was set to only let family rated shows be viewed it would either (a.) block "The Brady Bunch" or (b.) allow the show but block Girls Gone Wild commercial breaks?

I think neither are likely.

Most movie theater chains make it a policy of not running R rated previews before G rated features. It's just common sense.

GGW may not exactly be high on the good taste meter, but their ads aren't pornographic.
No, but they are ads for pornographic videos

As I said before, this isn't rocket science though it does require a little bit of common sense which someone in the chain from The Brady Bunch syndicator to the Dish uplink center is apparently lacking.

You got brains, Hello, use them before you embarrass yourself by posting silly comments.

Time to sue Dish Network.

On a serious note I agree, no GGW should be aired on family packages....or even during the day...where you watch TV with your kids.
If I had a kids I wouldn't want my kids 6 or 7 year old to watch 19 year old girls running around naked in front of my TV while I am watching shows with my family.

Spoken like someone who has children..... I have to wonder if some of those who respond to the contrary do not have kids.
As a matter of fact, I do not have kids. But if I did I wouldn't use the TV (or the internet) as a babysitter. My parents never did that with me, and I would never do that with my kids if I ever had any. I wouldn't record a non-children's show on a non-children's channel in the middle of the night and then hand it over to them to watch without either having watched it first myself or being with them while they watched it.

There are PLENTY of things your kids could do rather than being parked in front of the TV alone while you're off doing household chores, paying bills, etc. Whatever happened to playing with toys and games? Reading a book? Coloring, drawing, or some other type of artwork? Or heaven forbid...GOING OUTSIDE TO PLAY (which would be the best thing seeing as how there's a major obesity problem in this country, and most kids don't get anywhere close to the amount of exercise they should be getting). Kids are too damn lazy these days, and I think a major reason for it is parents who park them in front of the TV alone and use the TV as a babysitter.

So you and your family are up at 4 am watching tv together while naked teenagers run around in front of your tv?
