Hi - we are an existing out of network dish network customer but we have a new roof being installed where they will take down the satellite. I just wanted to inquire what to do in this case? I assume Dish won't reinstall it for free, so just am wondering on my options.

As we were having work done inside our house, in one of our rooms I have a VIP 622 receiver that I own, but the switch that brings the cables and splits them inside the room was lost by the workers. Anyone know what is that switch called so I can purchase it? It is the one dangling with the cables behind the receiver.

Thanks

You may want to see what your upgrade options are. It's possible you could get a free upgrade and that could cover them remounting your dish antenna. You would have to renew a 24 month contract with Dish though and you would be leasing the receiver. The only other option is to pay the tech visit fee.

The switch you were referring to is the separator I believe. It splits the signal from the satellite cable to the two tuners in the receiver. You should be able to find one online.

Thanks - yup its the seperator, will see how much it costs.

I possibly was thinking of signing up again with Dish instead of upgrading, but I think this Hopper ends up being more costly.

Right now with my VIP 722 and 622, I believe my Primary is free, 2nd Receiver Fee is $17, and then DVR fee is $7

vs.

On Joey - I believe the total I would have to pay for 4 tv access is $36

The Hopper system is generally more expensive but it is a superior product. If you wanted to sign up as a new customer you would have to cancel your service with Dish for 60 days. As long as you left in good standing you can sign back up as a new customer and get all the promotions.

Do you know if they still sell the 722 receiver options as new customers? Those type of receivers meet our needs and I don't want to pay much extra.

Thanks

You can still get the 722 as a new customer. Dish is going to push you towards the Hopper though. This is why I recommend going to a local retailer if you have one. They generally give you all of your options compared to calling Dish directly who only wants you to sign up with the Hopper.

Make sure you get all of your questions answered here first before you sign up so you know what you're asking for when you actually call. Keep in mind using one of the SatGuys member's Dish referrals here if you do sign up. You can get a $50 credit on your first bill.

I will look for a local dealer but basically i have a VIP 622 that I own and just need like a 722 for an additional two rooms.

If all you have is the 622 now and you want to add a 722 you can do that. You can do an upgrade that just adds a 722 to your account. You can then have the tech install the new receiver and while he's there he can fix your Dish antenna. Like I said before though, it would require you to sign a 24 month commitment with Dish.

If you just want to purchase a 722, you can do that too. You will have to pay a tech to come out and hook it up and fix the dish antenna though.

the dish rep said if i signup for dish protection it is $50 to do a reinstall otherwise its $150.

not sure whats the best option, whether to cancel and then just resign up -- though the hopper stuff is not what i want due to higher prices....

Be aware that signing up immediately after cancelling will not usually get you much in the way of promotional offers and you would probably be surprised how readily they make connections between family members.

The Seperator is nothing, don't worry about it. When I was installing for them I had several of them extra floating around my truck.

As for the roof replacement and putting the Dish back, a tech can be sent out with a custom work fee of I think around $50 and that is cheap compared to the work they will likely do for you. Just tell em you won't take the protection plan and will pay the $50 for it....make em bend cause that is still good.

You could be nice and ask about other options and placement to avoid the roof if possible but just be prepared for it going right back up there in case of LOS issues or tree's perhaps blocking the path.
Also as I said be NICE.... and tip the guy if he does good work for you. It's ok to ask simple questions and hang around and even help if asked or something ya never know and it goes a long way in this line of work considering the crap techs put up with everyday.

I went to two homes one day for the same thing both had roofs replaced. First guy was super nice and while I didn't get a tip I helped him out with some nice new wire and even relocated to a better spot for him just cause well he was NICE! The next guy was an a$$hole..I put the sucker right back up where it went... put it all to spec and left as soon as I could even though I could have put it in another spot way lower and not back on the roof but he was an a$$hole from the get go complaining about how I should do whatever for nothing and so on.

You can cancel but you will not be able to sign up for another 60 days. Just because you sign up as a new customer does not mean you have to get the Hopper system. You can get a 722 receiver if you want and if your 622 receiver is purchased you should be able to add that to the new account as well.

If you have any HD's and you change your account# you will lose any saved programming.

HA! I cannot count how many times customers would call into Dish with a no signal problem only when I rolled up, there is the dish on the ground and a new roof on the house.
And on many occasions the son of a bitch wanted a pole mount.
When people figure out ways to abuse a system to get something for nothing ,it's like holding open your refrigerator door for the family dog.

Back up until February the official ruling was, if the dish is back on the house and just needs repeaked, it's a SC, if the dish was not remounted and they wanted to relocate it, it was an ECI.

ok i bought that separator on ebay for $5-$6, but yes soon my roof will be replaced, I guess I can call to negotiate a reinstall -- but based on the inputs from you guys -- it seems there is an option to install it on the pole, is there any concern there?

yeah regarding new csutomer your right if they see last name they may say related -- though my wife has a different last name -- will see.... yesterday i chatted with one guy (acct specialist)... raised my concerns by informing him that i was thinking of bundling with comcast as i have their internet... he said sure cancel... didn't expect that to be his intial response.

There are also pre-mount options that you might talk over with the roofer.

One such solution is known as a Commdeck.

Why did you buy one??? I told you that techs carry them all over their trucks, we always kept spares and were very easy to get.

You may ask about getting it on a pole but that is up to the tech and if there is a line of sight and how much work is involved. A visit to remount it normally goes right back where it was so again depends on everything I posted before!
