How much is the Hopper upgrade costing you?

This is interesting hope you have the DISH Service Plan. Also Hope you have everything plugged into a surge suppressor, because it sounds like you may be having voltage surges?.

I plug all of my electronics into surge protectors, and I don't have any voltage problems. I called an electrician out to look into it. Dish suggested it.

My point was that by switching from Dish to cable and back in 6 months he would lose all of his Dish DVR recordings, including any he has on an EHD. So, he must not have many/any.
I use my dvr plenty. And you're right I don't have much on my EHD, but that really isn't a big deal. I have a couple of dvd recorders with hard drives that I use to dump recordings on and then burn to disc. Sure they wouldn't be in HD, but it would still work. I've burned plenty of dvd's from Dish recordings and those upscale fairly well. You can also buy more than few dvd/bd's of stuff you've lost with that money not spent on upgrading anyway.

Just making sure you were aware of and taking into consideration the issue of permanently losing the EHD recordings by trying to come back to Dish as a new customer.

I use my DVD/HDD recorder a lot, too. :)

Yep, they're great. I was using them as dvr's (ota only) long before I became a Dish customer. Believe it or not, but I've been married for 23 years and my family and I didn't have pay-tv until we signed with Dish a little over two years ago. I also use an usb tuner in one of my pc's to record ota broadcasts in hd for local channels that Dish only carries in sd.

Thanks. I told them that it didn't make sense not to give current customers something close to the deal new subscribers were getting. I understand wanting to bring new clients into the fold, but that shouldn't mean loyal subscribers should get the short end of the stick. I must say that they gave me no resistance whatsoever. They were very agreeable to my requests to waive all upgrade fees.

Be sure to check your first couple of bills.

I Got a quote for my upgrade. $100 for 1H/1J plus $95 for installation (unless I get the service plan in which case it'll be $15). Also, it'll reset my 2-year contract. Now I just have to decide whether to pull the trigger.

Congrats. I just tried again, and I'm not able to lease for some reason. Uverse might end up getting a subscriber soon.

Same here, also making the same decision, with the same pricing, except mine will be $200 for 2H/2J.

If I were you and if Dish doesn't work out for you, I would go DirecTV or any other service with respectable HD quality as U-verse has very bad HD quality. I know from personal experience as I used to have it.

I honestly think that's not a bad price.

Couldn't agree more.

My last suggestion would be to call DISH ask to be transferred to their Loyalty Dept. tell them your on your way to sign up with another provider and you what to know their best deal.If it's not what you want? you switch providers it's as simple as that, unfortunately it's the nature of the beast. The ironic thing is if you do switch and then cancel, they will call asking why you did not let them know, that they have a better deal, but by that time your already under contract with another provider. They all do that and that's one reason I think their all morons.

They just want to plant buyer's remorse in the minds of the people leaving so they will come back in 2 years. ;)

Another data point: 4 year subscriber/no contract here. Currently have the protection plan, chat with customer service and transferred to loyalty. Got free install [in 3 days] and no upgrade charges for 1H/2J!
