Lost absolute now I have to pay to send their equipment back.

I think they made $ on those customers, $15 shouldnt break the bank and possibly fix a relationship.
If you think that DISH was making money off of Absolute subscribers, you're not paying attention. There is a reason people are so upset about losing it -- it was a killer deal.

They don't comp drinks to those who play the penny slot machines.

Make sure and get and keep a receipt and tracking number for the equipment you send back, as it has been known by Dish to suddenly say it never received the equipment back.
Always good advice.

DIRECTV was recently sued and lost for doing it (among other unscrupulous exit strategies).

fair enough. Then thats their first mistake, dont compound it with another one. They do comp drinks at the penny slots, just commensurate with what you have played, even if you win. Actually specially if you win, you get more comps.
In any case, just bad business practice to kick them out the door. It is as if a casino sees me leaving for another one, they make me pay for all the drinks i had while i played. that would be funny.

The thing is, if you pay a month in advance on your programming and still have a balance left then you are owed money. I would think that they would take $15 off of what they owe you. I do know that if you do not ask for the balance back then they will not give it back to you. You have to ask for it. Are they charging people $15 even though they are due money back on their bill?

I supposed you like the changes the lawyers are doing to consumers, all the right go to the people you buy from and we basically have none?
If nobody complains it gets worse. When the lease on your car runs out do you have to pay to send it back?
When the tell you they only offer the highest tier and you have to pay for it or ship your equipment back at your charge, do not complain.

I canceled because they changed my package and it will cost almost 2x as much and I lost stations in the bargain and I had no say whatsoever.

They want the receiver, remote and LNB, so I have to climb up on the roof and take it off, and no they said I cant give it to an installer or company thats sells it I have to send it back.

You can tell them it's too dangerous to get your LNB's and that if they want them to send someone out to get the LNB's themselves.

Can't imagine having to get up on the roof in the snow to retrieve the LNB, yikes!, then paying $15 to send it all back. So to return 4 receivers would be $60?

I have never heard of having a label shipped and _then_ get charged if it is scanned and "activated".

Just send it in parcel post with delivery confirmation. All it has to do is get there. Nobody said in what condition. Lol. J/k

I am not sure what channels you watch but you may want to check out the welcome pack $14.99pm with locals and get starz free for a year.

Or maybe check out the channel master CM-7000PAL and just roll with OTA

So to return 4 receivers would be $60?

The way to get around this is to deactivate three of the receivers before you cancel. As long as you still have an active account, they do not charge you to send receivers back. Then, once the receivers have been received by Dish, cancel the account and that way you only need to pay to ship back one receiver.

Is it silly? Yes. I heard about it before I canceled so when the retention agent told me about it as I was canceling, I didn't get mad. Just asked about the details. Was told to send back the LNB, receiver, and remotes. Was told there was enough room for two LNBs when I told her I had 2 and there was a lengthy discussion about properly packing it so as to ensure no damage during transport so it does matter what condition it arrives in.

Now to my problem. I was told LNB, receiver, and remote. No mention of switch. I've had the LNBs, receiver, and remotes set together for a couple weeks now waiting on my box (the box was stuck in transit due to weather for nearly a week). The box arrived tonight and the instructions say to include returning the switch too. Now, I never paid any attention as to where that was before. And at this point, I don't know if the DirecTV guy discarded it, or if I threw it away, or if it's hidden on the ground under the snow or if I put it somewhere out in the shed. All I know is I can't find it now. Anyone know what the 'charge' is going to be without this switch that was not mentioned prior?

As far as room in the box for two LNBs, one is the 'tri' type and because of that, I had to reconfigure the boxes interior packaging to make it fit. Not quite the right box if you're in an area that needed two dishes and one of those being the larger type.

That was a big 'forget to mention' with the person I talked to on the phone as well. I would have had no problem finding it then, but now...

So, how much do I get charged for this switch? I'm trying not to leave with a bitter taste in my mouth but Dish seems pretty damned determined.

Honestly, I've never seen a charge for an unreturned switch so I couldn't tell you how much it is. Educated guess would be between $50 and $100. I do believe it says to return the switch in the letter that's in the box (along with the receiver, remotes and LNB).

Great point. I think it'd be a lot better if Dish didn't charge people who were canceling their service, and then took the cost of having the equipment being shipped back to them and shilled it off on the existing Dish Customers who are still paying for the service. I think it would be much fairer for current subscribers to subsidize costs from those who are leaving Dish Network over whatever.

I hoping that was a joke.

It does say so on the letter inside the box but it's the first time I'd heard that. It would have been nice to have been told this two weeks ago when I was taking down the satellite equipment off the house. Finding it then would have been easy.

I had it in my mind to rethink things in a couple of years and maybe come back to DishNetwork if the deal was right but I got to say that will NOT be an option if I'm going to be charges $50 or more for a switch.

I gathered everything I was told I needed two weeks ago. Now I got to figure out where something else is... if I even still have it.

How many other things do you have to ship back are free?

Amazon.com sends return envelopes with postage paid for free. You can mail back Netflix movies for no additional charge. Comcast lets you drop off your cable equipment at it's local offices for free. That's just off the top of my head.

JC Penney and Sears also have free return shipping. So does AT&T.

Then get your SATELLITE equipment from them. Oh Amazon & Netflix are those the DVD's your returning now a big heavy sat receiver. BTW E* doesn't have a local office. That dealer in your area isn't their office. E* does some things wrong but I don't see this as one. Since the customer is leaving they have no more obligation to you as a customer. It makes sense to me that this is the way it happens.

No it is not their office but they already ship stuff back and forth. Not to mention that those dealers will likely reuse some of the same equipment you are shipping back. So it is not a far fetched idea to allow to send back to an authorized dealer/installer.
