Firmware .abs file Update

The attached PDF describes the process to update the microHD firmware .abs file via the internal TTL 4pin serial header. Opening the microHD case and loading an authorized firmware file WILL NOT void the microHD warranty. Loading unauthorized or corrupt firmware, data files, altering or damaging the hardware in any way WILL void the microHD warranty.

We want to encourage hobbyists to explore the limits and possibilities of the microHD. There are no dangerous voltages inside of the microHD case, but always use caution and follow all safety procedures when working on open PCB and around low voltage components.

Here is a link to a preassembled cable that may be used to communicate with the microHD via the TTL/USB convertor and a PC running the ALI Editor: http://gotcband.com/collections/cables/products/microhd-geosatpro-microhd-recovery-cable

Quick Reference:
  • The .abs file is only for firmware updates.
  • Satellite/transponder/channel lists, configuration settings, etc. are not firmware files. These are database files.
There are two types of Database Files:
  • Default Database files (.ddf) contain the lists and configuration default settings that the receiver is reset to during a Factory Reset.
  • User data files (.udf) can be erased during Factory reset back to the Default Database. The User Database can be set as the Default Database in the Channel Edit menu.

User Database .udf file Update

The attached PDF describes the process to update the microHD User Data Base file (.udf) via the internal TTL 4pin serial header. Opening the microHD case and loading an authorized User Data Base file WILL NOT void the microHD warranty. Loading unauthorized or corrupt firmware, data files, altering or damaging the hardware in any way WILL void the microHD warranty.

  • If your microHD receiver is rebooting repeatedly, the channel list is likely corrupted. Load a new User Database (.udf) file via the TTL Serial cable to restore operation.
