Reset National HD Expectations?

It is now May 1. The consensus of the Satelliteguys.us forum participants seemed to be that Dish would launch 15-18 new National HD Channels before May 1.

As you all know, we got three.

So what are your expectations now? An announcement before the Tech Chat? An Announcement at Team Summit? An Announcement at the next Charlie Chat (June 9). Something else?

I'd like to see something that would re-affirm my faith in Dish sometime this month, but I am not counting on it and am making plans to switch later this month.

The latest from Dish is 100 National Channels total and 100 markets with HD locals before the end of the year. So we could go six or seven months without any new HD.

Anyway, what are your expectations and what is your reasoning?

My expectation, which is obviously unrealistic, is that by now these ridiculous, repetitive, whining, immature, threatening threads would STOP.

I wish people who don't like posts like these would just shut up and keep their negative comments to themselves.

But I guess that is UNREALISTIC TOO HUH?

Your post was well worded flyingsquirrel.

I guess we should do what KAB feels, and no longer should anyone post any questions or feelings about what should be coming or anything. So unless it's confirmed info from Scott, everyone keep quiet.
Right.

Will my expectation is we will get the soon real soon. I do not expect to know what soon means, but I know Dish will get 100 Nationals soon real soon( I could not resist I like the word soon so here it is to the word soon will that is enough soon from me)

Or in kinder terms than what KAB seemed willing to do...

flyingsquirrel, there's a thread set up already to complain about no new HD ... Click here

That being said, I agree with you about being frustrated. There's a sense of a sliding scale. Without a whole lot of effort, any of us could probably go through the old posts and see where numerous times, dates have been put out there as "you should see more HD by this date", or "there's a charlie chat coming up, surely they'll announce something then" ... only to get disappointed over and over. Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful for the three channels they did add, but they need to do more.

I think we will know something after the summit either in the form of nationals launched or information from dish at the summit about timeframes.

But with dish networks track record, it prolly will be we will get them when the feel like giving it to us and will not tell us when or where.

With a couple of exceptions, Dish does not launch programming in accordance with any trade shows or public events.

What consensus? When was there ever a consensus about Dish launching 15-18 national HD channels by May 1? It was never said anywhere that I can remember. Dish never said they were going to do that (all they said was "coming soon" for that list of new channels), and Scott never said it. Scott said give them till May 1, and if you're still not happy, then make a change if you want. He also said that "lots" of HD was coming in April, and one could argue that "lots" of HD did come in April -- if you count HD locals and, perhaps, the fact that Dish launched three of the most requested national HD channels, which have made a whole lot of people happy. Anyway, what Scott and Dish said was a far cry from saying there were going to be 15-18 new national HD channels on Dish in April.

So, why there would have been a consensus? Sounds like a lot of people made the assumption, and that assumption was wrong, and now they're mad that Dish didn't come through on this arbitrary deadline of May 1, on which Dish, or Scott, never actually promised anything.

In fact, I remember quite clearly that many of the more experienced posters and staff on this board said they didn't think we'd see all those national HD channels until Eastern Arc launches, that we'd probably just see a few of them in April. And they were right. So where was the consensus?

I never expected all those HD channels to launch in April. So I don't need to "reset" my expectations. But I got the channels I really wanted, so I can patiently wait for Eastern Arc, additional satellite launches, and deals to be finalized for more HD at this point.

Yeah well instead of May 1st I would wait and see what else Dish adds by the end of May..

I saw someone post about this on another site, and it made sense to me. While Dish may have added "lots" of HD in the last month, a given person that subscribes to HD saw one of two things.

3 National HD channels and 3-4 Local HD channels = 6-7 new HD channels

3 National HD channels = 3 new HD channels

The vast majority of the country got 3 new HD channels. Some lucky ones got 6-7 new HD channels. Either way, not exactly what you'd call "lots".

Exactly

I would like to see a link to the poll showing this "consensus". It would only help in the face of posting a specific number like 15 - 18.

I don't understand where all this anger is coming from and why. If you have a problem with E* not adding more HD you should direct that anger at DishNetwork and not at people on this forum. I hope all of you that are bitching are being proactive and contacting E* and telling them how you really feel. Better yet, if you are truly unhappy, cancel your subscription with E* and switch to D* or cable. It's really not that complicated.

To reply to the first post, I say that my expectations are already met. I am saving money, monthly, have DVR in 4 rooms as opposed to 1, and more HD then I was originally paying for with Cox.

Dish is a great service, and a good value.

I have ran my own message board for 3 years now, and have never seen this much bitching about something that none of you can really control.

I think you all need to realize that the complaining that the few hundred members here do are just a drop in the bucket to Dish.

The avg customer is most likely happy with what they have, and have no idea what the hell is being discussed behind the scenes.

So, consider yourselves lucky you have some "inside info" that others do not have, watch what you have, and friggen wait, for Christ sake, its f$@#ing TV guys.

(whine on I love my TV it is my life whine off) yea it is only TV and not ones wife now that is a horse of a different color.

Right now Dish carries everything in HD that I am wanting to see in HD so I'm happy. My only complaint is that at least one or two of the five SD channels my wife loves to watch are in the top250 instead of top100 (lifetime, LMN, hallmark, HMC, ABC family). If those go HD I could drop top250 for HD-only. But then the DVR will stay filled up with HD crap that used to be smaller SD crap so I'd have to spend more money on hard drives.
:)

Oh and that they don't have BBC World in SD -or- HD. That's my only other complaint right now.

Ok I have to ask, and I know this is gonna start some crap but I have not seen this gone over.

What HD channels are we missing? When I say HD channels I mean channels that are show true HD programming, not upconvert strech-o-vision.

If we are talking about a bunch of stuff like cartoons and Disney, I don't know about anyone else, but my kids could care less about HD.

If we are talking about channels that show old movies say pre 2004, I don't know about anyone else, but I could care less. I seen them already HD is not gonna make me wanna see them again.

Are we talking about a bunch of different sports channels? I would not mind more sporst, but I am not going to go crazy about not seeing curling or some other crazy sport in HD. Football, Baseball, NASCAR, Hockey, UFC, and basketball are all I really care about. Big ten wrestling is the only other sport I could care about but I already get that. I know alot of people care about Golf, but alot of the big events are on the networks.

SO what real HD channels are we missing, and what do the show?

+100

As remarked above, please call DISH with your HD complaints and/or cancellations, and/or please keep your HD complaints in the HD complaint thread. Thank you for playing along.

As far as your plans...see ya!
As far as my expectations...that's easy. I expect now that it is warming up, I will spend more time outside, more time with friends, more time traveling, and less time watching tv until the fall. Those are my expectations.

problems with Dish Mover

What networks will show the rest of Hockey?
