Ok anyone else getting annoyed at this?

Could VOOM please stop adding channels until the PQ is restored!

Bandwidth does not materialize out of thin air. Even with statistical multiplexing the new encoders have dropped the picture quality to crap... What good is more channels when the reason I got the service (more HD and better HD) is fading away?

I needed that Rant!!

Let me know how you guys feel. Am I in the minority here?

It's been said time and time and time again that it's not a bandwidth issue it's the new encoders which they are still working on.

AMEN!! I too am sick and tired of the poor PQ on Voom. And I fear that all of this is falling on deaf ears. Voom is very quickly becoming another mediocre provider like D and E. Voom I want quality not quantity! The great PQ that we used to have and recently lost with the new encoders and added channels is why I signed up for Voom over a year ago. Now I'm frustrated and looking elsewhere for good PQ.

For awhile, I thought my set or bulb was wearing out and it has only 300 hours on my DLP. Picture is soft and not sharp. I am connected by DVI and you would think it would be dead on, but it is not now.

No you are not alone.

If Chuck Dolan actually reads this site, he must just have to chuckle and shake his head from time to time.

First you're crying because you might lose your VOOM and if they had just done this or done that (like add more channels to attract more subs), then they wouldn't be in such a mess. Then when they start adding channels, you're complaining that you are losing your quality.
It is apparent that Chuck Dolan and VOOM are juggling a lot of things all at one time with one arm tied behind their collective backs.

None of you know exactly what is going on yet. Give Chuck and VOOM a little time to try to save the service and get their act together. If all you can do, in the mean time, is bitch and moan at every twist and turn, then you just have way to much time on your hands.

I agree with bob. Not that it can't get better, and I can only imagine how good it must've been a little while ago, but speaking as a noob, I can only say how fantastic the Voom service and PQ are for me right now. I'm almost afraid of what I might do if Voom gets as good as you guys make me think it ought to be... :D

Well, if you want VoOm to stay in business long enough to finish the MPEG4 transition, improve your PQ, & roll out the HDDVRs you better be happy that they are adding channels to attract new subscribers. Otherwise, you won't have much HD to complain about ;)

I dont think Hordes of subs are going to beat down the door for WealthTV. HDnets yes, INHD's yes.. Wealth TV? who cares. That space could have been used for RSN's or HD PPV. Personally, I dont care about RSN's or PPV But I think a lot of people want them. :D

Actually what cracks me up is people like you that everytime someone posts a legitimate concern, they have to go on some self-righteous rant about how people are pissing and moaning blah blah blah. That too has been posted time and time again. Guess what, it falls on deaf ears too. We don't care what you think about our post on PQ and we will continue to post our observations and discuss them with each other. That's what this forum is for. Don't like it, don't read it.

I agree with you on that vurbano. Sure it would be great to have the PQ issues fixed instantly, more HD, HDPPV, etc... and the are several channels (SD & HD) that I could do entirely without. But, the truth is that VoOm does need to round out its offerings because there is only a small percentage of the market at this point that is willing to dish out the kind of money that is required to subscribe to multiple cable/DBS providers to get all SD/HD that they want.

WealthHD is not the only channel that has been added recently. If you look at the whole picture, VoOm seems to be aggressively increasing their offerings to remove more of the obstacles that are keeping more people from subscribing. This is by no means a bad thing. I believe there can be a balance between SD and HD on voom. I know that is difficult to swallow when you consider current bandwidth limitations and such, but VoOm WILL address this issue. They have no choice and that is the only way they will survive. How they do it??? That is a issue for their engineers. The important issue to me is that VoOm stays true to its principles of offering the best and most HD and the way i see it they wouldn't still be operating if that wasn't their intention.

Maybe I'm too patient, but I believe that good things will come to those of us Voomers that hang in there.

Verbano, I think the only thing you care about is watching T&A class B movies, go down to the video store and rent some Hardcore porn DVD's and give us break for a few days, Maybe with a little luck your right wrist will be to sore to type for a few days or your keyboard keys will get to sticky and stop working :) :) :)

i love what voom is doing by adding the new channels. Keep it up Voom! I still think the PQ quality is great!

On some channels I agree with all the sentiment here (and its probably the VBR stuff now) but some channels look better than they ever did on the old encoders....

Some Equator programs and pretty much Rave all the time Ive noticed lately have gotten better than they ever looked on the old encoders.

Im watching Sci Fi right now and compared to Directv Vooms PQ on the ch is quite a bit worse. It seems to me VOOM does have alot of work to do.

guys,

again, the service has to generate a cash flow, 50,60 , 100 or even 700,000 aren't going TO PAY THE BILLS. if they cant jump FAST to at least what primestar was , 3.8 mil , it will fold!!

he needs investors to infuse cash, he isn't going to blow thru his fortune (that is still tied to cvs) to be a VISIONARY, he is 78, you being happy isn't on his mind. him making $$$ is.

AGAIN, HD DOESN'T PAY THE BILLS, GOT IT????????

DRAGON

or PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON as the gal from rocklin says

And I'd be willing to bet that "the gal from Rocklin" is closer to right than you are. Gotta go have a drink now...you give me a headache...and if I'm going to have a headache, I like it to at least have a good reason! Vicki

Talk I had with a csr

What will you do if VOOM goes under?
