I traded one of my gadgets for a 1.2ghz 12" ibook g4 and a sciphone i9 yesterday. The woman I got it from was a granny via craigslist. I have very minimal experience with macs but a fair amount of experience rehabbing old pcs.

If this was a pc I would scrub the hard drive and reinstall windows to insure that nobody put anything nasty on there accidentally or on purpose. I know macs have a reputation for avoiding accidental infection, but what about a previous owner with malicious intent or someone who may have used torrented os disks?

I remember a school being sued recently for taking pictures of students at home using school issued ibooks. If the school can do it, then some jerk can too. I don't want to give this to my preteen daughter and have someone snapping photos of her.

It is running os x 10.4 and I don't have that disk. I do have 10.2.4. How would you proceed in my shoes?

Stupid Garmin "software update" question?
