Verizon settlement:

I just got word that Verizon has just recently held a private closed settlement with customers who returned their modems and were charged and had their accounts sent to collections even though they mailed the modem in and in some cases customers even brought them to their local Verizon stores.

From what I gathered Verizon has settled by correcting both the credit of those affected and have given customers one year of free internet plus the modem to keep. Verizon had to agree that within 30 days they would either 1)not require returning of the modem if they still offer no committment or 2) require a one year committment where customer keeps modem but if the customer cancels they would pay a cancellation fee. It seems Verizon decided on the one year agreements.

I don't know how many people were involved in this settlement only Verizon didn't want it public or in class action status.
