What HR DVR will work with the Genie?

Since we cannot have 2 genie's on the account, The tech who installed our service yesterday said I could get an HR -24 dvr off ebay or somewhere and swap out my mini Genie instead. He said then I could have 2 more tuners for a total of 7. Would this work? Is there an alternative DVR other than the HR-24? So far I love the Genie.

Yes, this will work, it is also the best option, the HR24 is a very good choice.
There are others but they are all older units.

But be careful, many of the DVRs offered on ebay are not "owned" and DirecTV won't activate them. Before you buy, make sure you get the receiver ID number and call DirecTV, ask for the access card department, they will tell you if the receiver can be activated

Yes it will work. We have two HR-24's and one Genie and they all work great, they share all recordings so we have a total of 9 turners.

We happen to have an older (>5 years) HR20-100. In fact, it's the one requiring a band-stop connector and a separate work-around to make WHDVR work with it (but it does).

So, yes, other tuners are allowed in such a configuration.

What you're really limited by is the SWiM device. We happen to have a SWM-16, where the Genie resides on one bus of 8 channels and the HR20-100 resides on the other bus.

In a Genie configuration, the requirements for a SWM are determined as Geniex5 tuners + DVRx2 tuners + n, where n includes however many more DVR(s) times the number of tuners per DVR.

If not Owned, it's a lease and should have been sent back to D*.

From the DIRECTV Equipment Lease Addendum:

You understand and agree that you did not buy the equipment, do not own the equipment, and must use and return the equipment as explained in your service agreement with DIRECTV. You have no rights to sell, give away, transfer, pledge, mortgage, alter or tamper with the equipment.

This seems to extend to leased equipment that doesn't have a return status with DIRECTV.

I'm on an hsp account. Hutch and I work for directv. We only pay the lease fees on the 2ndary boxes. It was a joke lol but the receiver list was real

Our programming consists of everything excluding PPV, playboy, penthouse, and all porn channels. So in a nutshell, we have premier with all sports packs including the max versions of everything.
