I don't want to spend a lot of money for a roof top dish mount, what can I do
to hold my dish.
There are several alternatives to the motorized or crank-up roof mounts. Many
folks just bolt the mounting arm to an 18 inch square piece of plywood. This
gives you a lot of flexibility in placement. If you're willing to spend a little
more money, a tripod can be purchased to mount your dish. For a few dollars
more, the tripods with a central tie down are pretty good at resisting winds. Of
course, you can mount the arm to the rear of your RV, but then you'll have to
park pointing mostly north, and you'll still have to bring the dish in when you
travel.
Here's another novel approach for temporary dish mounting
