Dish activated these channels. They have absolutely no content, but they
keep the 301s from blowing up.

Quite a few of these changes are quite overdue. Sorry that I have been
to busy to get to these important changes. A big thank you to those that
e-mailed me dozens of changes and suggestions!
- KTCI-TV 17 (PBS - St.Paul/Minneapolis)
channel 8580 has moved from 61.5 to 110°. This change happened last
Thursday. (anon)
- Added a note to channels 9941-9946 (Test
Channel programming may not be that of listed channel) This means
that the channel's EPG and the channel contend do not match. These are
listed as the Richmond locals, but the programming is not that of the Richmond
local stations right now. (anon)
- Added satellite info to "Richmond Locals". (anon/ANON)
- The following stations have been yanked by Allbritton Communications :
WJLA – Washington, D.C.
KTUL – Tulsa, OK
WHTM – Harrisburg, PA
WJSU – Birmingham, AL
- Dish has put up a note in the corner of
http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/index.shtml with links to
the contact page. However, if you use the contact us web links to the station
personnel, the page loops back to Dish Network's page because of a script.
Go to the TV station's page and use the "contact us" links on the respective
pages to complain to the TV stations or contact Allbritton Communications
directly. Remember it is that parent company that pulled the stations.
(Mark/anon/ANON/Robert)
- Added Green Bay locals to the grid. These channels are not yet
uplinked, but they are currently listed on the Dishplayer "hidden

- Added note to channel name of 101. Dish plans to change the tape on

Waco locals on June 18. (anon/Retailer Chat)
- Added note to each Telefutura (830 and 831). Only one per
subscriber. Mere mortals can only receive the feed for their time zone.
Those in Eastern and Central time can receive channel 830 which is the east
feed. Those in the mountain and pacific time zone can only receive the
west feed on channel 831. The same holds for Dish Latino packages as for
AT100 and AT150 packages. On a personal note: This is
absolutely insane! But I guess that is the way Telefutura/Univision want
it. Call or write Univision and Telefutura to complain!
5/28/03
- Muzak channel 931 has returned, but not as "Classical Ambiance" It
is now called 7890 - 4 Decades of Music. (ANON/anon) Took me a

- Tallahassee local ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS are now available to subscribers.
(9290, 1, 2 and 6)
- The new Dish Latino package and 800 channel block are now available to
subscribers. Looks like Telefutura East is available to AT100
subscribers, but West is part of the Dish Latino package. The same holds
true for Univision West. (I owe some one a milk shake if this turns out
to be true! :-) A UDF Malt is the payoff! Yum.
- Update: As of 2:50 am Univision West is now available to AT100
subscribers. So no UDF Malt payoff! And Telefutura West disappeared from

8959 no longer have space assigned on the satellites. (ANON) Removed the
satellite info and changed the footnote from (1) or (14) to (9).
- Dish locals information channel has been plastered all over the grid.
This channel is not yet available to subscribers but it is now uplinked to
channels 102, 104, 125, 196, 197 and 198 (ANON). Some one will have to
explain to me why it's on three adjacent channels. This is only
ONE channel mirrored on all 6 locations.
5/24/03
- WKMJ TV 68 Louisville, a KET2 Affiliate is now being uplinked to 61.5°
transponder 22 on channel 9102. It is not yet available to mere mortals
(regular subscribers) (anon)
- KWBU TV Waco, TX was listed on channel 8995 and uplinked to transponder 7
Spot 10, but not available to subscriber, won a ruling from the FCC to have
Dish carry the channel under "must carry" rules. Dish must carry this
channel by mid june. This channel has been moved to transponder 8 at
148° and the channel number is now listed as 8992. (anon)
- The channel that was listed at 8992 KAKW is still listed without a channel
number and a (9) on it because it is still a possibility.
- The College station channel (Waco DMA) listed on channel 8994 is no longer
uplinked. A (9) has been added to the listing and satellite info
removed.
5/23/03
- Roanoke/Lynchburg Virginia locals (9280 block) now available to
subscribers without ABC or UPN. Reported "Technical Difficulties by
some. However it has also been reported as a retrans issue. Will
update where there is firm word on the issue. (ANON, anon, Darkman form
DBSTalk., Jim P, Anon, Tom T)
5/22/03
- Channel 449 (sports alternate 5) has disappeared but channel 465 (sports
PPV) has magically reappeared on the same transponder and satellite. (ANON)
- Channel 454 (Sports PPV) appeared today. (anon) It shares the
channel space with channel 145 so only one or the other is visible at any one
time.(ANON)
- Channels 455 and 470 changed their name from Event (PPV Events) to Sport (PPV
Sports) (anon)

- Channels 541-549 from the NHL Center Ice Package and channels 562-571 from

still being uplinked. Changed the nots from package info to (1). (ANON)
- Channel 158's EPG name was changed from MUMSC (Much Music USA) to FUSE.
(anon)
- Dish Latino channels are on the move! The 800 block came alive again
today with all the old and new Spanish language channels. The guess on
the channel numbers I made below (5/21 changes) was incorrect. The
channels are not yet available to subscribers but they should become visible
on 5/29 (ANON, anon, post by Darkman on DBSTalk.com)
5/21/03
- Univisión West, Telefutura east and west, De Película and De Película
Clásico have been added to transponder 1 at 110°. (ANON) No channel
numbers assigned yet but temporarily placed between channels 270 and 300.
Educated guesses of the channel numbers for Telefutura and Univisión.
- As a side note...the term De Película (DEH peh-LEE-koo-la)
litterally means "of film" or "of movies". But the term also has a
different widely accepted slang meaning. When you tell some one you
look (te ves) "de pelíicula", you are saying you look wonderful. Or
"glamorous enough to be in the movies." The term applies to men,
women, things and places. The name of these channels is quite
ingenious. (TNGTony)
- The sixth Spanish language channel today was Telehit. This channel
was added to transponder 9 at 110° Again no channel number assigned by
Dish yet (ANON)
- Knoxville local channels 9310-9316 are now technically available to

the announced date of availability for these channels.(anon)
5/19/03

These channels are scheduled to become available to subscribers 5/22
- Two Knoxville religious locals out of Harlan, KY and Tazewell, TN
added to 61.5 on channels 9317 and 9318. (ANON)
- Channel 8958 Telemundo out in the Tucson market (KHRR) won a Must Carry
battle not too long ago with the FCC and Dish has followed the ruling by
placing them on a transponder 12 at 148. (ANON) This station will become
available to area subscribers shortly.
5/14/03
- Knoxville local channels added to the grid just before channel 9399
without channel numbers. The ABC, CBS, NBC Fox, WB and PBS affiliate are
uplinked without channel numbers to ConUS transponder 12 @ 110° (ANON)
- AT150 Preview channels (266-269, 271 and 273-299) are no longer available
but still listed in the EPG. (ANON)
- Update: The AT150 freeview channels have left the EPG. (ANON)
Though they are still uplinked with the mirrors, I have removed the listings
from the pages since the channels are not coming back any time soon.
5/13/03
- Cedar Rapids ABC channel becomes available to subscribers tomorrow
sometime during the day (perhaps about 4pm local time) (Charlie Chat)
- Jackson MS locals now available to subscribers. WAGA Fox from
Atlanta will be included in the $5.99 package for those who qualify.
Those who do not qualify for a distant Fox network channel will get a $1
discount on the locals package. (Charlie Chat)
5/12/03
- Jackson, MS locals are now "technically" available to subscribers. (anon)
CSRs may not have access to the "switch" to turn them on right now, but they
should be available at 8am tomorrow (Tuesday). Keep in mind that the
official launch date is 5/15/2003 so there is a good possibility that CSRs may
not have the ability to turn them on until 8am that day.
- UPDATE: According to
THIS news story, Jackson MS locals are available as of 5/13/03.
5/8/03
- Sioux Falls SD NBC affiliate now available to locals subscribers.
(Post of DBSTalk.com by "Music Beans")
- Added Knoxville locals to the grid just before channel 9399. These
channels are not yet uplinked and have no channel numbers yet. They have
been announced as being available to subscribers on 5/22/03 on the latest
"Retailer Chat". (Post on DBSTalk.com by "Darkman")
5/7/03
- Jackson, Mississippi and Roanoke/Lynchburg, Virginia are now uplinked to
110 conus transponders 14 and 17 respectively on channels 9270-9286.
(ANON/anon) The channels are not yet available to mere mortals.
Guess is that at least the Jackson channels will move to spot beams before
launch.
- Channels 9399, 7999, 240 and 250 were turned on today. The channels
are entitled "Locals" but currently only displays a Dish logo. This
channels are also not available to subscribers yet. (ANON/anon). These
channels will be activated if Dish is ordered by the Miami Courts to turn off
locals to up to 60% of Dish customers. The channel will show information
on why and what to do to possibly get them back on again. The ruling may
be a straight forward "turn all locals off for everyone and requalify them one
at a time as they call in to reactivate locals. That is the worst case
scenario.
5/6/03
- KTVJ (8212 Denver locals) changed its affiliation from HSN to TeleFutura
sometime in the recent past and at the same time changed its call letters to
KTFD. At this point the EPG name has NOT been changed and remains KTVJ
is still listed on the Dish EPG. (Anon)
- Channels 266-269, 271 and 273-299 are now available to subscribers as an
AT150 free preview. These are 100% mirrors which means that very little
bandwidth is being used to bring these channels. However....Dishplayer
owners....check your units in the morning to make sure the 30 some-odd "new"
channels didn't blow up the EPG!
5/5/03
- WKFT (8757) is now available to Raleigh Locals subscribers again. (post on
DBSForums.com). To recap the story on this station, it was available at
61.5° starting on 1/1/02, but sometime in the spring of 2002 the station's
transmission tower got in the way of a small plane. The pilot was killed
and the tower was knocked over. The station's temporary transmission
facility did not provide a "good quality signal" to Dish Network's POP.
Recently the station got its signal to Dish and after a few weeks of testing
dish turned it on for subscribers again.
- UPDATE: Apparantly WKFT became available to subs last Wednesday (4/30)
5/4/03
- Daystar (9408) went from the 61.5 and 148 satellites to the 110 satellite
transponder 15 last Wednesday (4/30) (Jeff F)
5/1/03
- AT 150 channels that will be on Free Preview are warming up in the bull
pen on channels 266-269, 271 and 273-299. Looks like they are 100%
mirrors of existing channels so very little additional bandwidth is used.
It also looks like channel 264 will be in free preview right where it is and
the monaural audio channels (923-949) will also be in free preview mode
beginning as early as tonight. (ANON)
4/30/03
- Health TV is now available to
all subscribers at 61.5° and 148° on channel 9405. (anon, Steve)
- Channel 971 changed its name from "Concert Classics" to "Classical
Ambiance". Interestingly enough that is the name of the mono music
channel (931) which was removed on 4/17. (Steve)
4/29/03
- Paducah locals (9255-9262) are now technically available to
subscribers EXCEPT NBC. Dish and the NBC affiliate are having
retransmission consent issues. Subscribers will be able to call to get
their locals beginning tomorrow at about 6am local time. (anon)
4/26/03
- Channel 8652 (WCNC TV Charlotte) was incorrectly listed as being on
channel 6. The OTA channel assignment for WCNC is channel 36. Channel 6
is its cable assignment. Corrected the listing. (Anon)
4/24/03
- It had been reported that transponder 3 and 23 at 110° which was
previously reported as being active on E*8, is in actually coming from E*6.
Changed the chart to reflect this. The information is derived from
signal strengths in areas where E*6 provides a weak signal in comparison to
E*8. (Wrate)
- Channels 103 and 500 changed names again. This time to PPV Guide.
(anon)
4/21/03
- Corrected an error in the hyperlink on channel 9711 (Safe TV).

inaccuracies on Paducah locals. (9255-9262). (anon)
- Channel 931 is gone from the EPG (anon) though it may still be available
on FTA receivers. I've changed the listing to red and added a (1)
footnote.
- WKFT TV from the Raleigh DMA (8757) appears to be uplinked again at 119°
transponder 7 spot 14. (anon) This independent station was on Dish
previously. However the station's transmission tower got in the way of a
small aircraft. The collision brought down the tower, killed the pilot
and took the station off the air. The station's temporary transmission
facilities did not generate a "good enough" signal at Dish' Raleigh POP so the
station was removed from the line-up. It seems that after 10 months,
this station may now be sending a "good quality" signal to Dish's POP again.
4/16/03
- Channel 9997 now houses WXSP-CA UPN 15 from Grand Rapids, MI. This
seems to be a signal test since the PQ is highly variable, but watchable.
(anon). This information was sent to me yesterday. UPDATE - signal
quality over the last day has improved dramatically and is now ready for prime
time. The station is still not (and may never be) available to mere
mortals.
- Paducah, KY et. al. TV Market has been uplinked to channels 9255-9262.
Though Dish and the local station are still working on it, the NBC affiliate
has yet to come to a retransmission consent agreement with Dish. (ANON/anon)
- Channel 971 made its way back to the channel line-up. Back to where
it was. (ANON/anon). I was informed that in reality the channel never
left the satellite. It was available FTA all week. Why? I
don't know.
- Two name changes...Channels 103 and 500 changed names from "3 Minute PPV
Guide" to "PPV Movie and Events Guide" and channels 139 and 450 changed names to "Dish
Network
Sports Stop". This is strictly a PPV sports and events guide. (anon)
4/14/03
- Channel 589 (Soccer/Cricket PPV) removed from grid. It was removed
from the line-up over 6 weeks ago. Thanks to Steve for bringing my
attention to this.
- Put channel 589 back on the grid with a (1). According to an anon
source, the channels are there and showing a "technical difficulties" slate.
4/10/03
- Zee Gold (617) has changed its name to Zee Cinema. The EPG finally
changed from ZGOLD to ZCINE to reflect that. (Steve)
- Sioux Falls locals are still not showing as available on Dish's Address
Broker. Their launch may have been delayed again.
- UPDATE: Sioux
Falls local ABC, CBS, Fox and PBS from Sioux Falls now available along with
PBS from technically from Merriman, NE. In reality this is a remap of
the Omaha PBS. Both are repeaters of KUON Lincoln. (ANON/anon)
- Audio Only Channel 971 (Concert Classics) has been removed from the
line-up. (ANON)
4/9/03
- The remaining local channels in the 700/800 block have been removed from
the EPG. These are the following channels:703, 708 712 716 717 719 720
720 721 722 723 728 737 741 742 744 745 746 747 748 753 758 762 766 767 769

832 833 854 858 862 866 871 874 875 876 878 881 882 883 885 888 889 890 892
895 896 and 897. (ANON, anon)
- Sioux Falls, SD Local ABC, CBS, Fox and PBS locals will become available
at 6am local time tomorrow (9230, 31, 33 and 36 respectively). NBC local
currently has a retranmission dispute with Dish. The ABC repeater
stations and additional PBS stations uplinked to 148 are not yet available to
subscribers.

Added a note to the listing on channel 158.

Chicago. (Michael)
4/3/03

preview. It is now only available to "America's Everything Pack" and the
"Out of Market Sports Channels Pack". Channel 560 which is also NBA TV
is available only to NBA League Pass subscribers.
4/1/03
- Channel 223 changed names from Vision TV to Healthy Living Channel some
time ago (no foolin') but just now was prodded by a vigilant contributor to
change it. Thanks Keith!
3/28/03
- KHRR TV 40 Tucson Telemundo affiliate and KWBU TV 34 Waco DMA PBS
affiliate have both won must carry disputes with Dish Network. As
provided in the SHVIA the FCC has ordered E* to carry these channels within 75
days. The complaint and ruling can be seen
HERE. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader available free
HERE)
(ANON).

- Channel 465, Sports PPV channel moved to channel 449 and has been renamed
Sports Alternate 5 (ANON)
- Channels 147 and 148 (ESPN Alternates 3 and 4) have moved back to where
they originally came from last week (459 and 461) and have been renamed back
to their original names (Sports PPV). (ANON)

of the month (4/1/03) they become a full time UPN affiliate and their HSN

games listed on the EPG
- Sioux Falls, SD locals have popped up on 110° and 148 on channels
9230-9241. 9 Channels in total have a spot reserved including 3 ABC
affiliates. (ANON) Speculation follows: It seems that the
two "repeaters" for the main ABC affiliate sell local commercials to their
respective markets and may have local news and weather. The station most
likely insisted that the two "affiliates" be uplinked in order to consent to
have its signal carried by Dish.
- And additional Sioux Falls channel is now listed though chances of its
carriage are slim to none. 9238 KRNE Merriman, NE.
- Channel 9405 which used to house CCN (ceased operations 3/15) is no longer
on the EPG. Removed listing. (Don't expect a new PI channel until
December 2003). (Restored 9405 to the grid 3/22 since it was reported
that the channel is still uplinked, though it is not visible to mere mortals.)

- Channel 831 has completely disappeared from the EPG. (ANON)
3/18/03
- Huntsville CBS, NBC and PBS locals (9196, 9197 and 9199 respectively) are
most probably to become available to subscribers 3/20/03 at 6am. ABC and
Fox affiliates will most probably not be available at first presumably due to
retransmission consent issues with Grant Broadcasting System (fox) and GOCOM
(ABC). (anon)
- Channel 8880 (ABC Tyler) is now available to
subscribers. (anon) (JWT at DBSTalk.com)
3/17/03
- CCN (9405) ceased operations as of 3/15/03 due to "current and anticipated
budget cuts for CCCSAT's funding.". The channel now currently shows a
slate "Public Interest Programming Coming Soon" (Joe C.)
3/13/03
- Added hyperlink to GOL TV (632) (ANON)
- All the 700/800 channels from Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin, Birmingham,
Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Dallas, Greenville, Houston, Indianapolis,
Raleigh, Sacramento, Tampa, Washington been replaced by a slate informing
subscribers that the channels have "moved" to the 8000 range. (anon)

I wish to apologize to the Spokane NBC and Fox affiliate personnel. The
statement I made in the crawl when the stations had yet to reach an agreement
proving how little they care for their viewers was not aimed at the rank and
file. It was aimed at those that would charge for redistribution of a
signal to their own area's viewers. My view of a TV station doing
anything other than saying "take my signal and pass it on to my viewers,
please!" is well known. ANY station that wishes to charge a nickel to have
their signal distributed to their viewers should have their license revoked for
refusing to serve their area. Unfortunately, that is not the way the
broadcasters view it. The fact that the redistributors charges for the signal
is irrelevant. Unless the station in question wishes to pay the full amount of
backhaul, uplink and lost opportunity costs to the disturber. This is a
personal opinion. Again I apologize if anyone other than the folks
directly responsible for the negotiations took offense at my commentary.
What I said about station (owners and managers) not caring about their
viewers still goes for all the station (owners and managers) still refusing to
grant permission for retransmission due to monetary compensation to retransmit
the signal to THEIR OWN marketing area! If the hold-up is because the
station wishes to blackmail the distributor into carrying another cable channel,
that is even worse! (FOX O&O, Hearst, etc)

digital format encrypted on the same MUX (JH). In a leap of logic,
I decided to list the AK locals in the chart without channel numbers.
E*7 has a spot beam aimed at Alaska so look for the stations to pop up there.
Until they can be confirmed actually on E*7, I have left the channel numbers
and satellite info off the chart. They are currently listed between
channels 9071 and 9110.
11/14/02
- Channel 9707 (Guardian TV) which is due to launch this month now had an

difficultis" slide. (anon)

support this conclusion. Changed the chart to reflect this info.

Moines listings somewhere in the sky.
- Also announced on the Tech Chat that Buffalo will also have the UPN
affiliate. Added info to channel 9130. Will add satellite info if
and when it becomes available. The reason for the (9) is because it is

- Added WWDP Boston Telemundo to channel list (8779). DirecTV has been forced to carry it and Dish may also have to follow suit. Added the listing as a (9) for the lack of a beeter classification.
- New channel added to 223. Listed as Value Television, it is right now really "The Vision Channel". This channel seems to be totally in the wrong place since it is a family entertainment channel complete with movies and classic TV series and advertiser supported.
- Update...at 8:30pm there was a "switch" and right now there is paid programming when the Vision channel is scheduled to have music TV. The folks at E* may have oobooed and put up the wrong feed. I'll keep my eye on this.
- Update...Okay...channel 223 is indeed "The Vision Channel". Looks like it has gone the way of "America's Voice". It's program schedule now contains lots of paid programs. Though they still had entertainment programming today.
- Channel 222 (HSN) changed satellites from 119 to 110. Channel 219 is labeled as HSN2 but is the same as channel 222 in its old satellite slot. 219 is a temporary transitional channel.
- Channel 401 (Golf) changed satellites from 119 to 110. Channel 402 is labeled as Golf2 but is the same channel as 401 in its old satellite slot. 402 is a temporary transitional channel.
- Channel 217 (Gem Shopping Net) has moved to channel 229 though at this moment it is still labeled as iShop. iShop was suposed to move to channel 221 according to a crawl on the channel itself over the last few days however...
- Channel 223 (Men's Channel) has moved to channel 221. The Direct Shopping Network is now on 221 and not 229. So this explains the messages.
- Channel 690 (iShop at 148 and 61.5) is also showing GEM shopping channel now.
