Sirius Predicts Big Jumps In Q2 Profits, Subs

TOP STORY (SkyReport) -- As part of its preliminary second quarter reporting today, Sirius said it expects to post a 25 percent increase in revenues during the quarter and will trim its losses to $24 million from the $79 million it reported in the second quarter of 2007. On the subscriber side, Sirius said it expects to report a 25 percent year-over-year increase in users to end Q2 with 8.924 subscribers, 4.247 million of which are from the OEM channel, representing a surge of 53 percent since the same period last year. The news comes after the FCC approved Sirius' pending merger with XM on Friday.

Revenue for XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. rose nearly 15 percent year over year to $318 million in the second quarter, the company said today.

As announced yesterday, XM's subscribers grew 17 percent to 9.65 million for Q2, compared to 8.25 million subscribers at the end of second quarter 2007. Net OEM subscriber additions of 360,000 more than offset the loss of 38,000 net retail subscribers.
