Do you guys reccomend visiting a local installer to sign-up for Direct, or call Direct-direct for best offer?

Regardless of whether its Dish or Direct, I like local guys. Then I can talk to them about what I want and get a feel for them ahead of time. Make sure we're both on the same page. Sort of establishing a good relationship before anything is actually done.

Good points and also you will get faster service.

GO LOCAL !!!!

DTV is doing their best to eliminate the "local installer." I have had folks call DTV just to ask for my phone number and the CSR has scheduled a service call. If customers call DTV for "any reason" the HSPs try to ding the installer for $100.00 defective installation charge back.

DTV wants it all and what they have is a fleet of installers who have been doin' this stuff "all day."

Sorry if this is a silly question but here goes anyway....Is this the best deal for an installer if you can't use the local? Is there a way to get a deal with Direct and use a local?

Your local installer cant bargain any optional "deals" on DTV services. They may get the install done faster but as for services, they have absolutely no power to make any kind of price cuts. The only deal they could make deals about would be about the install, like if you want lines ran a specific way and or farther than a standard DTV install provides for.

That’s not true nor is it DTV, its the HSP you work for that makes that choice. DTV dose find a massive amount of sh*t installs IPPV's not shut off, bad wiring jobs, what installers do reflects on DTV and can destroy a relationship between them and the customer.

Id like the see more accountability from installers myself, Id love to see the call system changed as well where when you call in your routed to the person who activated your service if they are available that way you get the same person 70% of the time when you call in but guess thats a bit off topic.

Make sure you do a proper install and you wont have to worry about getting a charge back.

Milkman,.
You are right about the bad installs. I've seen them. They are out there. But here is one to chew on. I once received four am installation orders. Two of them were for four receiver deals, the other two were less. Someone wanted four quick and dirty activations that morning OR they figured that what didn't get done could be charged to the tech (me). I used one of the hours available to contact all four customers and reschedule three. There were words exchanged about why all four did not go in during the time slot.

The pressure for that kind of crap comes from somewhere. And just doing a competent installation does not make it certain you will be paid.
