Sony Power Up Question

I purchased a Sony KDL-40S3000 as my first HDTV set. I Need to know how long from powering up to being able to watch a sustainable picture takes with this unit as mine initially takes 10 minutes to see a picture then goes dark for 5 minutes and comes back on for 5 minutes then off for 10 more before finally coming on to stay. All this time there is audio from source, and during time that picture is on it is normal on all other aspects. I have no complaints about this set except for this , so do I need to replace, adjust, or learn to live with it? Thanks for all replies.
Almost forgot , this is on the cold start , first of day , after this, all is much quicker during start up.

The set should be watchable within a minute of power up. Your problem is within the power supply that controls the back lighting for the set. These power supplies are a switching power supply. I have seen a lot of these manufactured with standard capacitors. A standard capacitor cannot take the abuse of the frequency switching. They will overheat and eventually go bad and stop working. In the mean time they will change capacitance. This is what your set is doing. It will go out one day. When?? Hard to say. It may work for years like this or go out the next time you turn it on. You can search this site for a power supply. They also give some directions on how to replace it, if you are adventurous. LCDParts.net
