Local news in HD?

Hello La Crosse Market members...here are the awnsers I got so far.

The News will take more time. Major upgrades need to be done before our Studio will be full HD. With any luck 2010 sounds like a good year.[/FONT]

My neighboring market which I get locals OTA from Raleigh NC, WRAL has HD news.
This was actually the 1st station ever to broadcast in HD back in 1996.

They have most everything in HD. A few years ago they ran only HD on the main channel, when a CBS show was not in HD they ran there own HD programming. They called the station WRAL DIGITAL.
Now the station is a exact simulcast of WRAL(CBS).

They have Vipir HD, Sky 5 HD, this is the leader in broadcast HD.

/\ Also in Raleigh area, WRAL 5 was first to broadcast local news in HD, and now WTVD 11 is doing their news in HD. And to the person who asked "does it really matter if you get your local news in HD?"...DUH Of course it does! Given the choice of watching your local sports highlights in SD or HD, which would you choose??

Local HD in the Kansas City area

In Kansas City we have the ABC (KMBC) affiliate that's been full HD for several months, and just yesterday the NBC (KSHB) went full HD as well. Not sure, but I've heard that the CBS and FOX are getting close. KSHB just sprung it out yesterday in the middle of the day without any fanfare until after it was done.

The Nashville,TN area currently has one full-time HD station (WTVF-CBS affiliate).

I'm still waiting for local news in HD here in Milwaukee...WTMJ (NBC 4) was the first to go color and stereo, so they will probably be the first to go HD as well. WISN (ABC 12) will definitely have news in HD by Feb. 2009 per their station manager. Can't wait!

I think Cleveland is the first market to have four stations broadcasting local news in HD, WEWS (ABC), WJW (FOX), WOIO (CBS) and WKYC (NBC). WOIO also has a 10 PM newscast in HD on WUAB (My43). WOIO and WUAB are both owned by Raycom.

In Cincinnati only the ABC affiliate (WCPO) is HD for local news. The rest are in SD.

However even the HD station screws up constantly since sometimes they have news clips shot in 16x9 and shown in anamorphic or vice-versa. I can't stand to watch that!

No local news HD here in Mobile, though WKRG is constantly running ads saying how good their news looks in HD... idiots.

And you can still count the stations that are doing full HD (remotes, helicopters, weather) on your hand. The only stations in mid-sized markets with these capabilities are WRAL in Raleigh (the orignal HD test market) and KLAS in Las Vegas.

Hdtvtechno, your list needs to be updated. WJW in Cleveland has an HD helicopter. Cleveland station WOIO's newscasts have been in HD for months.
