Hey, new free speed upgrade =-)

Here you go:

"RR Turbo (perviously known as RR Premium) is increasing from 10 Mbps to 15 Mbps starting 4/22. Upload is increasing to 2 Mbps. If anyone is interested in promo pricing, send me a pvt message. If you already have RR Turbo, your price will remain the same as you were paying for 10 Mbps but will get the 15 speed.

No word on any new HD channels. But as we all know, the programming people keep that on the down low until a certain release date is set in stone. But as I hear info, I will be sure to pass it along. "

Not very odd. it is ridiculously low, so they are embarrassed to show it.

I am hearing a lot of talk about FIOS 20down/20up service for business. That would be a technology orgasm to get that installed in a place of business. That is the low end of the future of Internet pipes into the homes and the businesses. I cannot wait until FIOS rolls into St. Pete. They are working their way here from northern Pinellas County. BHN has to be freaking out right now the more I think about it. Verizon has FIBER to the homes and businesses. BHN does not. BHN has bandwidth problems. The only bandwidth problems with Verizon are with TV, and that is because they messed up and have a bottleneck at the main TV distribution point, wherever that is (it covers the whole nation, not just the regions or cities it serves individually). They have near limitless bandwidth to the buildings they cover for Internet. BHN has some catching up to do. I see myself ultimately going with FIOS for Internet for sure and once I do that, TV may follow. It may not. I could go the way of Dish or DirecTV or stay with BHN. We'll see as time goes by how much each provider lays out HD channels. Best of all I will have a real choice.

The future is looking good for TV and Internet, that is for sure.

If you people haven't noticed, BHN has a real customer service problem now days. (Not that Verizon is any better, that if anything would hold me back from going with Verizon FIOS). I still have not heard from my contact as a reseller at BHN RR. I am going to have to call this week and see if she still works there. I have a hunch she is ignoring me since I did as a touchy question regarding whether or not they are going to increase biz and VO speeds for RR, since increasing the residential speeds.

BHN does offer Fiber to business through its Dedicated Access service, you can get up to 1gige.

I also admit Verizon FIOS for internet is a very attractive choice and if they were here Id have the internet for sure :) (Ill stick toBHN for tv though FIOS has yet to perfect that)

I have heard Rumours BHN Expects to be 50mbit by the middle of 2009 With DOCSIS3.0 Launching the 4th QTR this year. Comcast is already rolling out 50mbit in some markets. The network BHN has when upgraded has the capacity to compete with FTTH no problem for the next few years at least. With DOCSIS3.0 and the new BDR nodes allowing for multiplexing on the return, the bandwidth is dam near limitless. Specially if BHN goes all digital.

Yea Bervard is A different headend then orlando, you are fed from Deland I think.

They should be upgrading you guys to hopefully. 512 sucks. Perhaps thats why they dont have it on the site because its different? I dunno. You guys use the cfl.mybrighthouse.com site as a home page to right? That could be why.

We have the 15 Mbps service. Will there be upgrades to Indiana Bright House users??

I think the ONLY reason we got it in Tampa Bay, FL is competition from Verizon FIOS. They didn't just do it to be nice. The answer probably lies in whether or not BHN has competition in Indiana. Is FIOS building out there?

I realize that, but as a home based business, I use Virtual Office and it is the same thing as a business service at a business location but at a FAR better price. My complaint isn't the price or speed, rather, RR's handling of everything (specifically them not telling us RESELLERS of a speed increase that could be used as a selling point). However, Verizon's pricing appears to be more attractive. At first I am just going to get FIOS Internet for my home Internet usage and separate my business server and phone from the fun traffic (surfing, video games, Slinging, etc). I'll have a backup connection, in the rare event that either goes down.

As far as BHN speed increases like that (50/?), that is only good news. As far as Comcast, I am glad I don't have them!

This sort of thing stinks (not that I ever Limewire or torrent, but I am all about restriction free ports)-
Comcast cool with FCC ruling, will just slow all of your traffic now - Engadget HD

So whats the ONLY reason we got it in Orlando? There is no competition here..

Probably, that or its because it is a system wide roll out, (which it is) Some areas are slower then others, it really depends on how much of the network has already been upgraded.

Fair enough. Let's assume that it is a system wide roll out. I'll take you on your word.

Let's switch gears to TV.

On Oct 2nd, Verizon FIOS is upgrading their HD lineup with some very impressive stuff in the Tampa Bay market. I don't have the link off hand but have seen the PDF and the new additions include what appears to be all 26 HBO/MAX HD channels, a bunch of Showtimes and Starz, and a bunch of national HD channels that they don't already have. What is BHN going to do to match this in Tampa? Will Orlando get the same new channels as Tampa, if BHN adds new channels?

Keep in mind that BHN currently carries only the flagship HBO and Showtime premiums in HD. We have no Cinemax, TMC, or Starz HD in Tampa, let alone the numerous HD multichannel premiums I enjoy with DirecTV. This should be pretty embarrassing if they let Verizon FIOS get that far ahead.

Where is SDV? They better hurry.

Hope this answers your questions:

Coming Soon To TVs Near You: More High-Def Channels

Thanks for the link, but no, that link really doesn't answer any questions. First off, let me be clear, I can't stand that Richard Mullins. I don't know him and haven't read anything other than a handful of TV related articles he has written, but he really doesn't know what he is talking about. He is also a pretty bad writer.

DirecTV's HD count is skewed, but it isn't because of the sports channel count. It is because they are counting HD PPV channels as HD nationals. Sorry... not going to fly in the real count of channels. This count also includes premiums, as it should, but the Verizon count does not include premiums and he fails to mention that.

Verizon will have more than 52 or so real HD channels by October. They will have 26 HBO/MAX HD channels alone, plus everything else. I am not sure where he came up with this number. 52 non-premium channels maybe, but certainly not a total count.

So based on his numerous mistakes discussing DirecTV and FIOS, which we actually know something about, he is probably off on his BHN count too.

BHN is famous for remaining silent about their plans. The only thing he said that I believe is that BHN will take a slower approach to rolling new stuff out. They always have.

Thread Topic is new free speed upgrade...in another unrelated local forum, someone mentioned a one year turbo deal for $1.41+tax per month.

I signed up for it. My DL speed has not increased with the package at all. In fact it is lower than my last two previous tests. I was getting 11-12Kbps before and now get the same (11622). I was expecting 15's. UL speed did go up from 480's to 1100's.

In one year, when the offer expires, I wonder if dropping the package back to basic will LOWER my DL speed back to lower than I was already getting before the package. Perhaps I was getting a free DL speed upgrade, and after a year will have to pay $96/yr for the same DL speed I was getting with the standard price.

So call and complain to BHN. We can't help you get the speed you should if you are getting a lower speed.
