Swap HD recievers for SD DVRs

Does anyone have any experience trying to swap out equipment for other equipment of equal value?

I have two H23s that I added when I moved a couple months ago thinking that I was going to get HD TVs for the rooms that they are in. Now that I'm settled in, I know that I won't be replacing these tvs because I cant see replacing tvs that are working perfectly fine, in rooms where tv is only watched by my children.

Is there any chance that I can get them to swap these out for me?

I would think they would swap them, but I don't know if they consider them as equals or not. Because you are moving to a dvr, regardless of it being sd, they may consider that an upgrade and therefore extend your commitment. Have you called and asked? Whatever they tell you, ask to have it sent in an email. That way you have a record of it.

from my experience it is a real problem to downgrade because it is also a change in programming and $$$. the best thing to do is just call and ask!

You don't tell us what market you're in, (hint, hint...) but in some D* markets, if you upgrade to a DVR, you'll automatically get an HD DVR anyway.

short answer is no. We dont swap 1 for 1 swaps. unfornatelly you would have to pay for dvr boxes.

I'm confused. The H23s do SD also. So, why would you want to swap them out as the monthly cost is the same. The HD charge is 10 bucks for the whole house. Now if you're looking for a refund for the difference between a HD DVR verses a SD DVR, that's another story. However, those lease charges are a one time deal.

Assume DTV would swap you out, what savings would you be looking for?

I wouldn't be looking for any savings at all, just looking to have DVR in the additional rooms, where I am not using my current boxes for HD. I still have two HD DVRs in other rooms on HD TVs...

Looks like from all the responses that I backed myself into a corner by opting for HD receivers instead of SD DVRs when I selected them.. The reason I call it a "Swap" and not upgrade/downgrade is because at the time, both the SDDVRs and the HD receivers were the same cost... not sure if that is still the case, just assuming so

still the same $99, I believe.

Exactly. If I were in the OP's shoes, I think I would just buy some R22's online (newegg doesn't have them anymore, but other places still do for a good price). Then you'll have your SD DVR's and they will turn into HD DVR's with the new software. If you're going to pay for DVR's anyway, you may as well get the R22 DVR's. It will help you future proof your equipment.

Once the boxes arrive, call D* to activate them and inform them those R22's are replacing the two regular HD boxes you want to remove.

You may have to run one extra coax run per receiver if you not using the SWiM technology. Also you'll need the BBC's to make those R22's show HD (again if you're not using SWiM).
