When I first turn the tv and sat back on in the morning the channel that it was left on comes on fine, the guide also seems to work and move fine, my concern or question is when I change to a different channel it takes up to a minute for the picture to come on. Is this normal? I am not sure if I am being inpatient or something else is going on. I have an HR-24 and its a couple months old. I did do a reset the other morning thinking it might help but did the same thing after a reset.

I have 2 HR24s and they both do the same thing. I wonder if the receiver is doing some house keeping or maybe it's from buffering the same channel all night.

I notice it on my R22's too....1st channel change shows up the banner but black screen. About 10 seconds later the banner pops back up and then the channel comes in. As long as you dont turn off (standby) the receiver it wont do it.

I thought it was the receiver so I swapped my R22's out (moved one to bedroom and that one to main room) and same thing

I'm actually seeing that on both of my HR24s this week. Was thinking maybe one of the recent bad storms knocked the dish slightly out of alignment, but now I'm reconsidering.

the receiver only buffers 90 minutes so its not like the receiver is flushing 10 hours of TV away when you change channel

If that were the case then it would happen every time you left the same channel on for a while.

I thought it was just my receiver makes me feel better that its not just me . Was going to call if it was just my receiver but apparently not. Thanks for the help.

Ya I really didn't think that should cause it but I wasn't sure what else would.

I've only had D* for a couple weeks and thought it could just be normal. Glad it's not but at least it's not a huge issue.

Junk firmware sent down by DIRECTV. I can't believe they haven't fixed it yet. How anyone can put up with their crap receivers is beyond me.

Glad to know it was just not an issue on my end... My wife noticed it and thought we were having issues with our RCVR... CC

Happens to me as well. In fact, since the last update on my receiver on May 26th, (HR-21/100) it has been slower and the same problem with the 30 second channel change, is happening. I have the protection plan, so I was hoping that if I called and complained, perhaps they would have offered me a new receiver. Well, I did call and after a few troubleshooting suggestions, the CSR set me up with a tech to come out. I agreed, because I was hoping that the tech would have had an HR24 to leave me with me. I was fully prepared to tip him accordingly, as I do with all service calls to my home:) The window was from 8am-noon and they called around 11am to say they were running late. So, I canceled because I had to leave for work. Called again yesterday to reschedule the appointment but this time the CSR told me a service call wouldn't really help with the issues I was having and instead walked me through a few things...which had already been done and had no effect. But, when I told him the issue was with this slow receiver, he did say that their engineers were aware of the problems and were working on them. Gonna try to call again this week and see about getting someone out here with hopes of landing a new (not refurbished) HR24.

Just realized how long this post is...sorry if anyone fell asleep while reading!!

Happens on both of my HR24. My H24 seems fine. I noticed it about a week ago.
Funny though. The last firmware update I got was May 18th.

Glad its not only me; takes a minute or so of a grey screen between changing channels :-( minor blip in otherwise great experience w/Ditect

whats weird is the one set up to my "main TV" it takes 10 seconds at the beginning but the one in the computer room is almost instant (well 2 seconds maybe)

and I swapped them in the rooms recently thinking one was going bad

both R22's...both same software
