DISH / Blockbuster Announcement Discussion Thread!

Just tried again, with Anger Management. Within 1-minute, I'm watching it... The HD version too. Will it buffer ? :)

Annoyingly, it said "A Princess and a Frog" was currently downloading and had to 'bump' it. My wife tried that HOURS ago.

D'oh, already buffering. Well, not sure it can be called "buffering". It's a progress bar sitting at what would be the "0" mark (it has no markers or tick marks at all).

Still sitting there, doing nothing, not filling up...

Signed up this afternoon and the process was slick and smooth. Congratulations to the team at DishNetwork for making this pretty easy. Got some new BluRay titles in my cue that I didn't see in stock at my Blockbuster store. Also, there was no problem accessing the streaming content with my 722 and 722K DVR's. The selection doesn't seem as good at Netflix but there are plenty of titles to watch just the same.

I didn't see anyplace where I could upgrade the 1 out at a time disks online. The Blockbuster - DISH Network does state to call the CSR to upgrade the account. I'm thinking about upgrading to 3 out at a time and then reducing my store movie pass to 1 which will save me $140 a year and keep the quantity of disks about the same.

To those of you thinking this should be free if you already get Platinum HD for free, I think your'e asking for a Bit Much.
You've been getting 20 HD channels for a while now that you Used to have to pay $10 for. Now you think you should keep getting them free, along with being able to stream all of their content for free, and get DVDs/Games in the mail for free.
Personally, I would have been willing to start paying $10/month again, if they had decided to start charging for Platinum again.

Why not? I have free HBO and I can access HBO GO. I can watch Epix online with my free Platinum. At most it's only three months left on the deal. I see it as give them the three month taste & maybe they'll subscribe when the deal's over.

REMINDER TO MOVERS: We can't get discs by mail. Please don't forget!!

just chatted with a CSR...
Ashton: Have you pressed the DVR?

Scott Gunter: yes

Ashton: Then please select "Blockbuster Movie Pass"

Scott Gunter: still says dish platinum....no blockbuster movie pass

Ashton: Thank you for letting me know about that..

Scott Gunter: done a hard reboot...no change

Ashton: As the promotion got installed today, the system has not get updated.

Ashton: We apologize for the inconvenience.

Ashton: We have a known issue with Video on Demand.

Scott Gunter: so how long till a fix is in place?

Scott Gunter: for the 622 receivers?

Ashton: Unfortunately, we do not have any updated time frame.

Ashton: This is a known issue with all the receivers and not only with 622.

Ashton: However, this will be resolved soon.

Scott Gunter: soon? really?

I have the same issue with my 622. They sent a hit to it to. Since im probably going to wait for my 3 month free trial to expire be i jump on this (dont have platinum), i can see whether its worth it. Cant wait hours for a movie to play.

The hell with streaming. Already have several BD in que that I could not get via Redbox. And it will not cost me a cent. Win, win, for me. But then again , there will be those who are never happy.

You can't record the Platinum stuff (it's a stream).
I'd like to make some comments about Dish streaming. Ever since I got the Adaptive Streaming update to my 722 (L677), I've been playing with both HD and SD streaming every day and every night (except today). It has buffered a few seconds (15 at most and usually much less) before the Watch button gets enabled, and the streaming has been spectacular. Glitchless. Never buffered. Even the SD cartoons I watched looked more like a DVD than Dish satellite SD. When it works, it's an impressive improvement.

Now I gather that the servers have been hammered today and glitch-less streaming is no longer happening. Typical Dish: make a big-splash announcement without everything ready. Also on the downside, I see the BBMP name change both on my 722 and my online account, but I don't see any different content than the old Platinum stuff; it just streams much more rapidly, rather than making me wait for hours. The 3rd downside is the arrangement is still a big ultra slow list with grossly inadequate organization.

I'm also a 30th anniversary PlatinumHD customer, so apparently I don't get disks at home without cancelling my freebie. Unlike some, I think I have 4 months left, and I might as well keep Netflix/Qwikster rather than throw away that freebie. :( I also mucked about with my account this evening, including changing the action at the end of the promo from Do Not Continue to Continue, without enabling anything (such as DVD queue management).

Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Edited to add: how did I get side-tracked like this? I quoted Hall and still went blind to his thought! OK, here's the thing. I queued up 5 or 6 movies every night, and they all said something like "available for 29 days", and every last one of them for at least the last 3 days in a row have been automatically deleted before I could watch them. Is that how this is supposed to work? If it's "streaming only", then it should say so, and not suggest it's going to be there when I get back to it. This is a complete waste of disk space and bandwidth to download/delete movies unviewed.

As I recall it was all the way to the right about half way down the page.
Dan

Edit: I am now thinking that this "Change mailing address" showed up while I was setting up the transfer from regular BB to Dish Movie pass.

Here's a chat I just had with online CSR. I contacted them because it won't let me sign up to request DVD's by mail. As the CSR says...this is all very "Unfortunate"

Brandon (ID: V8G): Unfortunately, I see this is not yet available on your current receiver. This is currently available on our HD VIP 722 receivers.
Brandon (ID: V8G): Unfortunately, the ETA on your current receiver is not yet available.
Me: ok but I should still be able to request DVDs, no?
Brandon (ID: V8G): Unfortunately, this is linked.
Me: wow that is disappointing, ok so i get a new 922 on Monday but will not have streaming until November, so I have to wait til November to get DVDs in the mail?
Brandon (ID: V8G): Unfortunately, the ETA is not available for that.
Me: yes very unfortunate

Sorry to quote myself, but it would appear that I was able to trick the Dish website into giving me BBMP without terminating my 30th anniversary gift, nor adding $10 to my bill. :D :D :D :D :D My Programming is no longer showing Platinum HD greyed out under Premiums, nor on my bill. Instead it shows BBMP and allows me to check it, and submit the $0 change. :D Thereafter the Complete Registration button magically appeared and I was able to log into BB and enter things into my queue. Unfortunately, all the disks that Netflix doesn't yet have are also not available from BB, so I added The Three Little Pigs just to make sure it will work, and it shows Very Long Wait.

Anyhow, I cancelled my Netflix subscription. Let's hope Dish doesn't track me down and cancel my $0 BBMP subscription.

Talked to a csr who said since I had platinum for free that I was unable to get the bb movie pass...

asked about bbmp free for three months and was given bbmp free for three months replacing platinum 30 aniversary for free

the free plat promotion will expire in jan so the change won't affect me at all...was also told I could get the 922 free!!! great day to be a dish customer!!!

I just have my free month of Blockbuster by mail starting yesterday :p
So when it finishes in Oct 30, I will wait a little bit when streaming is available on 922 and upgrade to Movie Pass

My 30th anniversary Platinum formerly stated it expired on Feb 2, so I don't know how you figure that you are replacing that with BBMP free for 3 months... You're losing a month. But I think this is better than what happened to me! After agreeing to a $0 change earlier (see above), logging back into Dish Network later on this evening I found that it DID add $10/mo to my bill! What a screwed up system! So, I removed it again. Who knows what the website is going to say tomorrow?

For the moment I still have access to my BB Movie Queue. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

just filled up my queue with a bunch of DVD's. these will keep me entertained as well as when i take one back to the store the next town over. I have a 922 so i will have to wait for streaming, but to have these by mail, for free no less is a great addition to my dish subscription. Gotta give Dish a thumbs up for this one. i think the games option is really going to be nice.

I still can't access my blockbuster que through Dish Network, and I still don't have bb on my 722k, just the dish platinum..I have lived chatted 4 times today, and keep getting told its a problem with their website, and how NOONE has access to anything now, yet, I read all these posts here, and it seems like most folks have the BB online in their menus, and they can access their BB sue via the dish website without any problem..
What should I do to get this straightened out?

thank you!
