The 5th channel is Disney Jr. HD.

I'm so excited for ION East HD! Flashpoint & WWE Main Event in HD! When I type Flashpoint in Smart Search it shows the HD logo next to it but dosent show the ION East HD channel yet just the SD.

I used to follow this on CBS, when they moved to Ion I quit watching.

ION east hd?
I have a local ION. (not hd)
Will this channel be available to everyone?

Good! I heard the other day they were looking to add up to 8 HD channels before football season.

This is a step in the right direction!

I'm thinking the PAC10 Network will be one of those.

It seems, according to satracer's latest comments, they are planning on several additions in the coming months. I wonder if all this is related to now having 6 per TP and not 5 with the new encoders.

I would think so.
I remember when Dish did this several years back and people freaked out because of fear of losing pq. I could not tell the difference.
You hear it and you automatically see it thing:)

I was concerned with Directv, but I've not seen any issues on the channels I know to have 6 on a TP, so Im OK. I just do not want them to head into 7 and 8, sacrificing PQ, just to add things like BeIn Sports ;)

I wonder why Directv was behind, cost maybe? We know Dish was able to add more per TP sooner, granted I think they went too far, but thats another discussion. I'd assume these encoders arent cheap.

If I had to guess I would say that DISH did the beta testing. :D They were always swapping encoders with the next latest and greatest, while DIRECTV kept what was working well for them. Now I guess DIRECTV feels the current generation of encoders is worth the investment.

Remember when this started there were no off the shelf encoders.

Ah, gotcha. Directv prob bought the ones they had for the big mpeg 4 expansion of 2007(IIRC), and been with those all this time.

It almost seems Discovery HD, one on a 6 channel tp now, looks better, but I'm not gonna go there because i dont have any proof. Im 99.9% positive it didnt get worse.

The new encoders are so good new that chances are that it DOES look better. :)

MPEG4 technology has come a long way over the past 5 years. :D

Cool. Like I said, i was birddogging them when they increased to 6. I wonder if we are at a point where Dish and Directv have the capacity for more than is offered in HD?

BeIN(replacing GolTV)

Are they removing GolTV then? That's a bummer if they do.

Edit:Just found out that BeIN holds the right for La Liga, Serie A and UEFA Champions League so all is good. :)

My wife would like both (and I would too). I always hate having to watch SD when she throws them on.

But QVCHD, thats where it is at.

I may have missed it in another thread but with the new encoders are the 1080i channels still 1920x1080 or are they 1440x1080 like Dish was/is?
